r u o Y EXCEPTIONAL UNION, EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCE

Hello!

@leicesterunion.com

Welcome to the University of Leicester Students’ Union! Let us introduce you to our fantastic range of services and facilities that we hope will enhance your student experience whilst living and studying in Leicester.

Your Union is run for you and by you. We employ current or recent students in 85% of all jobs in the Union providing real skills and real training opportunities.

Abou Your

Your Students’ Union is a charitable organisation which exists to support your student life here in Leicester. We strive to live up to our aim of being an Exceptional Union supporting an Exceptional Experience for every one of our students. Our facilities in the shiny new Percy Gee Building are second to none – but it is our value as a student community and enabler of opportunities to learn and grow on which we pride ourselves.

Your City Leicester is a great place to spend your time as a student. Cosmopolitan, vibrant and exciting, there is loads to discover! Take time to explore the city for yourself, but make sure you visit the Highcross shopping centre, the independent shops and boutiques of The Lanes and the historic Continental Market. The music and club scene in Leicester is rich and varied – with our own O2 Academy Leicester attracting some of the best live music. Theatre and arts spaces are well covered within the Cultural Quarter via The Phoenix Square Digital Media Centre and the Curve Theatre, and of course, sport is crucial to the character of Leicester with top class rugby, football, and cricket teams.

I am the primary contact between the Students’ Union and University’s welfare services and external bodies. I’m responsible for running awareness campaigns and campaigns for change as well as dealing with issues around accommodation, finance, mental health, safety and many others!

My role is to oversee the strategy of the Students’ Union and make sure that student views are heard with regards to your services, continually developing them to make them exceptional. I also work with the marketing departement to make sure you know whats going on within your Union!

My role coordinates and runs the Union’s priority campaigns, oversees its democratic structures, and leads the Students’ Union’s green agenda. We’ve got a really exciting year ahead of us, including an NUS national demo in November on youth unemployment and cuts to education.

I work to enhance, develop and facilitate student groups, working closely alongside the ARC team. This includes all of the sports, societies, associations and media groups, which are all great opportunities to enhance your student experience and ensure you get the most out of your time at Leicester.

Your

The Students’ Union represents all students who are studying at the University of Leicester. Getting your voice heard is one of our main priorities.

Your Students’ Union is run by you. If you want to make change happen on campus, or have an idea about what the Students’ Union should be doing, Union Parliament is a democratic forum that is open to anyone studying at the University to come along and have their say.

? Union Parliament is a great opportunity for students who want to have an active role in the running of the Union and the direction it takes, plus it looks great on your CV. Parliament meets regularly during term time and is streamed live to enable the widest possible participation. Elections for voting members take place at the start of the new term but any student can bring ideas and take part in debates. Any student can run for election, and as an elected member of Union Parliament you will get a vote on all Union matters and are empowered to form and chair working groups. 5

Mee The Education Unit (ED) is the hub of student representation on campus, supporting an extensive course rep system where elected representatives look after the needs of students on their course. This crucial process exists to provide feedback for the University in order to improve the delivery of courses to all students. ED o ers help and support to all students if they have academic concerns or problems that they wish to discuss. You can drop in, email or telephone us to get the confidential and impartial advice and support that you need. We are in the West Wing, 1st floor of the Percy Gee Building educationunit@le.ac.uk

ARC The ARC (Activities Resource Centre) is the hub for all societies, clubs, associations and media groups within the Union. From supporting and empowering current student groups, to encouraging new and exciting activities, the ARC team is here to maximise student potential and get the most out of your university experience.

With over 22,000 students and 3,500 members of sta , the University of Leicester's operations have a significant local, national and international environmental impact. In the Students’ Union, we work closely with the University’s environment team to reduce this impact by generating environmental improvements and initiatives. We are proud of the fact that we have won the Green Impact Gold Award for two consecutive years and that we have the highest recycling rates across the campus. This year we are developing initiatives to integrate ethical sustainability into curriculums, and introducing the sale of reusable water bottles in our outlets.
