A small act makes a big impact.

We're changing recycling for the better. Take a moment to update your knowledge

The rollout of new purple-lidded glass recycling bins in Golden Plains Shire is now complete and the service will begin in February 2025. This service is designed to help residents better manage their household recycling and support a more sustainable Victoria.

An important change with the addition of the glass recycling service is that glass is no longer accepted in the yellow-lidded mixed recycling bin. Glass will be seen as a contaminant if found in the recycling bin.

Only glass bottles and jars can be put into the glass recycling bin. Other types of household glass such as broken drinking glasses, glass cooking dishes, windows or broken lightbulbs must be put in the general waste bin. Please note that mirrors, crockery and ceramics can't be placed in the glass bin and will also need to be placed in the general waste bin. These items have different melting points and cause issues in the glass recycling process

These bins are part of the Victorian Government's push to standardise recycling services and reduce landfill. By diverting recyclable items, the aim is to turn more materials into new bottles and jars and reduce waste and resources going to landfill.

Keeping cool – some lessons from the animals

When you go for a walk in the bush on a hot day, you might wonder how the animals and birds deal with heat. No fans, no swimming pools, no aircon. But of course animals have evolved ways to cope with heat (and cold) and can give us a few tips. For example:

* They avoid the hottest part of the day by resting. They are busiest early in the morning and later in the day when it cools down.

* They can’t wear hats but they can seek shade. In the middle of the day, dense trees may appear to be empty of birds, but are wonderful places to rest and preen and laze the afternoon away. Kangaroos and wallabies will rest in shady spots – you can often see where they have been resting in grassy spots under the trees. Echidnas will dig under litter or into a hollow log and possums will sleep the day away in cool hollows.

* If they can, they will take a bath. Water is scarce in the Inverleigh Reserve so even small puddles are eagerly used for a quick dip and a drink. Providing water bowls in your garden can literally be a life-saver for birds and animals in summer. If they can, some birds will simply stand in water, allowing blood vessels in their legs to cool the body. This last one is certainly something that humans have learned!

But animals have also evolved ways of beating the heat which we are unlikely to copy. For example, kangaroos lick their forelegs which cools the blood vessels near the skin, aiding evaporative cool-

ing. Echidnas blow ‘snot bubbles’ which coats the nose and cools the animal as it evaporates. Many Australian animals of course have evolved to become nocturnal, so avoiding the heat of the day.

Birds will ‘pant’ (in the same way as dogs) to lose heat by evaporation. Some birds such as owls and cormorants will flutter their throats to enhance the effect. And there is one very effective method that some birds use to beat the heat which we can’t emulate – they can soar in the cooler air with minimal energy required. On hot days, I envy Wedge-tailed Eagles!

Lawson’s Park

Picnic Shelter

Lawson’s Park Picnic grounds has evolved over the years from when a circus would set up there in the 1930s to become the lovely area that is now a great asset to the town.

January 2025 Calendar

A ‘Meeting Place Arts Project’ was initiated by local people and with the assistance of the shire, financial aid from the state government (Vic Health), shire and locally raised funds the shelter was erected and opened in September 2003. Artist Glenn Romanis created the wonderful sculptured table, seating and paving in the shelter to represent the junction of the rivers. Community markets, work breakup parties, birthday parties and family gatherings have unitised the BBQs and surrounding parkland and playground equipment.

A combined project between the Progress Association and the Leigh meet in the Inverleigh Public Hall 0n the 4th Wednesday of each Month @ 2pm (Except December & January) VISITORS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

Geelong Horse Trials

Where are the floats going?

On Saturday mornings the township of Inverleigh is at its busiest. Visitors to the cafes, bakeries, general store, food swap and other businesses means parking is at a premium. Once a year you can add to this a plethora of horse floats and trucks all turning onto the Winchelsea Road. Why?.

They are heading to “Barwonleigh” a working farm and site of the Geelong Horse Trials (formerly Marcus Oldham Horse Trials). The trials comprise dressage, cross country and show jumping, just like we watch at the Olympics and it is a very popular local event.

The cross country tracks that wind along the picturesque junction of the Barwon and Leigh rivers are designed to invite rider and horse combinations to a challenging but honest introduction to the Victorian eventing circuit. A large new water complex was built in 2020 to complement the existing course and

water complex. The 30-meter diameter and 360 degree ‘beach’ entry makes the new water jump complex one of the largest in the state, while offering variability year to year. The course and design also incorporates the most current safety ‘mims’ clips beyond the standards required. The organising committee will again be working over the summer period to put the final touches on this year's course. Every track will be aerovated using Equestrian Victoria’s newest aggravator, with thanks to the eventing levy program. I wish you a safe and enjoyable cross country ride in 2025”

In 2025 the event will be held on 8-9 February, so be on the lookout for extra traffic. No need for anyone to ask “where the floats are going?”. Liz McDonald

From the Mayor’s Desk

february 2025

As we settle into 2025, I am filled with optimism that this year will bring remarkable services and programs to our community, while continuing to support our residents, ratepayers and visitors across the Shire.

Last month, Golden Plains Shire Council filled the seventh position in our Councillor group after Gavin Gamble was declared a Councillor Elect following the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) countback on Monday 13 January.

This followed the resignation of Cr Lachlan Glen in December 2024,

GOLDEN PLAINS SHIRE COUNCIL

prompting a countback held by the VEC to fill the Extraordinary Vacancy for Golden Plains Shire Council.

Mr Gamble joins Cr Emma Robbins, Cr Des Phelan, Cr Brett Cunningham, Cr Helena Kirby, Cr Owen Sharkey and myself as the Council group until the next Victorian Council elections in 2028.

This Council brings together a dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about our community. We look forward to building a brighter future for our Shire and ensuring the community’s needs are reflected in everything we set out to achieve.

Last month, we also welcomed Jo Wilson who secured the role of Director of Community, Planning and Growth. Jo has extensive experience in senior Council roles and brings a fresh insight into growth area planning. It’s an exciting time around the Shire with a number of recent and upcoming openings for special projects, including the opening of the new skate bowl at the Bannockburn Skate Park, the opening of the Linton Recreation Reserve oval redevelopment, the oval upgrade at Don Wallace Recreation Reserve in Teesdale, and the expanded Bannockburn Family Services Centre.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST OPEN FOR GOLDEN SPACES 2025 WINTER EXHIBITION

Council is excited to announce that it is now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the 2025 Golden Spaces Winter Exhibition!

I encourage residents to keep an eye on Council’s website at goldenplains.vic.gov.au for updates on these exciting projects over the coming months.

Council has prepared a ‘What We Heart Report’ which summarises the feedback received for the development of the Council Plan 2025-2029, Financial Plan and Asset Plan.

I encourage residents to view this report at goldenplains.vic.gov. au/consultations. Together, these documents will shape how the organisation meets community needs and aspirations, and will guide sustainable growth across the Shire, while continuing to provide critical services.

Lastly, a reminder that the rollout of the glass bins in Golden Plains is now complete.

Glass collection will begin the week starting Monday 17 February and will occur every four weeks on your regular bin collection day.

Thank you to the community for helping us build a more sustainable future for Victoria.

This is the first opportunity to apply to exhibit at Golden Spaces in 2025, with EOIs for the Winter Exhibition open now for local artists and creative practitioners.

A person told me something That I really ought to do.

I don’t remember what it was, I just remember who.

I can’t recall the subject, But only its import.

Try and try just as I might, I cannot catch that thought.

A person told me something But I can’t remember who. It’s something that I’d like to share; Perhaps I could tell you.

But you might be the person Who passed to me this news. Embarrassment I do not need, It just gives me the blues.

A person told me something; I can’t remember when. Yesterday? The day before? Last week? Some time back then?

When did I see that person last? I really cannot think!

This brain of mine so often now Just cannot make the link.

A person told me something I know not where or when.

Now who it was or what they said Seems quite beyond my ken.

I only know that somebody Had something to impart. They had a go; all praise to them.

And that just warms my heart.

Hello Everyone,

You will have seen an article in the last Leigh News advertising for a "NEW EDITOR".

This does not mean I have retired, finished, gone, It means that it's time for change and for a New Editor. I have been the Editor for 10+ years and so, moving on, we are looking for somebody to be trained up to take over this position.

I don't want to see this valuable contribution to our community suddenly cease, but am looking for someone with Community Spirit to learn how to do this role.

When I started in August 2015, I had never used this computer program (In Design) and had never been an Editor, but I still managed to get that edition done, but two weeks late. Each month I learnt a bit more and found

short cuts and now, with regular editions of 56 pages, I can easily meet deadlines to get each edition closed off and sent to the printer in Ballarat and get it back again for distribution on the 1st of the new month.

I have to say that being the Leigh News Editor, is one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done. I get to meet such lovely people and interesting stories just keep coming in from members of our local community and beyond.

The workload is not great if you just do a small bit at a time. If an email arrives and you read it, then deal with it straight away, include it in the next edition, press save and it's done

If you would like to know more about the Leigh News and what's involved in preparation of each edition, please give me a ring or email me and I would be very happy to share more details of how this community magazine is prepared and shared with our local community.

22 Leigh News POLICE REPORT FOR DECEMBER

Hello all,

Christmas/New Year holidays have come and gone and the kids are back at school getting into a new year of learning.

I have seen some discussion re the abandoned camp sites on the River Track Inverleigh. Whilst patrolling the area numerous weeks ago I discovered the abandoned sites and immediately notified the council with photos and locations and have followed up with further notifications to the council but it has been taking some time for some action in regards to the cleanup. If you notice abandoned sites/rubbish down there notify the council about it for attention.

I think the community and the council really need to have a think about the area and people using the camping area because there are always complaints about irresponsible campers down there with fires outside the rules, dumped rubbish and damage to trees and other items like the graffiti to the bridge and trees on occasions. In the ten years I have been out here now the area has changed. It used to be used by short term campers who stayed briefly and then moved on but now seems to be the home to 5 to 6 lots of homeless people who are using the area to live on a long term basis not having to incur campsite fees, pay rates etc and are just using the area to save spending their money on accomodation. Over recent times we had a male staying there in a stolen caravan with a stolen car who was involved in a shooting in Bannockburn. Other incidents of stolen cars driving through the area and dumping items from them on the track, another

stolen car driven into a tree. A P Plater drink driving and crashing into a tree a branch of which went through the windscreen narrowly missing the occupants, other reports of vehicles hooning through the area doing burnouts and fishtails at all hours. Another recent camper in a stolen car from Queensland involved in a long police pursuit abandoning their site and leaving their tent and possessions. Another two campers driving unlicensed and unregistered and being involved in thefts in the nearby area also abandoning their campsite, another group recently coming out in an unregistered car with a unregistered trail bike riding it around the track and then one of the group being involved in a theft from a nearby supermarket. Another group came from an inner Melbourne suburb in unregistered car with false plates hearing on the. Internet about the free camping in the area. Detectives picked up another camper staying in the area who was wanted for serious offences and another recently was wanted by police for questioning but when leaving a card on their van it caused them to leave. What is the purpose of this area? and what is the benefit to the town? I have heard comments that they may buy a coffee or some food but some of these people were also stealing from one of the businesses in town as well as purchasing from the same store.

What if the River track was blocked off and just left for walkers, cyclists, fisherman etc. I have been pushing council at the minimum for a time limit on campers in the area to keep campers at least moving through and not staying long term. I don’t believe the area was meant to be a de facto place for homeless people some of whom have various issues which end up requiring police and ambulance attendance on occasions. There are not facilites for long term living down the river track and I have heard of workers coming across human excre-

ment around the track and other reports of it being thrown in bags on the other side of the river which is very disturbing. Most residents would have absolutely no idea of what I and other police have come across down there over the years and the issues and people I have dealt with there. As I have detailed it really needs some serious consideration of what the area is for and the benefit to the community. A recent post on a Facebook page also detailed a lot of comments from people from the community who detailed feeling unsafe in the area which is appalling. I patrol there regularly and try to check most of the vehicles and people staying there so at least I may be able to identify people who are involved in incidents.

The Beyond the valley music festival has come and gone and disappointingly there was an incident where a lot of portable toilets near the skate park were pushed over which gives a poor image of the town. There also was some graffiti occurring in the area on various signs and bus stops. If anyone sees this kind of behaviour take the offenders photo or video and send it to me or crime stoppers so we can stop this behaviour.

There was also an incident of some youths on motorised bikes setting a fire behind the bowling club one evening but luckily they were disturbed by a concerned and responsible citizen causing them to flee. The offenders were caught on CCTV and clearly identifiable and will be interviewed and processed in the near future.

I am still seeing youths on illegal electric bikes and scooters around the town. If you give your under 16 year old children a electric scooter or any child a electric after market kit bike that doesn’t require pedalling to operate you need to have a serious re think and take them off your children. Electric scooters are illegal for children under 16 and electric bikes

that do not require pedalling to operate are motorbikes. I have just returned from the Gold Coast and also other coastal areas in Victoria and found the issue is occurring in these locations as well and generating a lot of bad publicity with residents fed up with youths riding irresponsibly around pedestrians. Kids are getting these scooters and bikes and riding them at ridiculous speeds and we are seeing both pedestrians and riders getting seriously injured and killed. I am appreciative of any video/photos/ identity of these youths so I can visit the parents. Don’t let someone in our community get injured by these vehicles which are being used so irresponsibly.

Lastly over my career I have found that a lot of issues with wayward youths are because the parents are too busy, don’t involve their kids in activities, supervise them enough, know where they are or what they are doing and the kids get up to no good. A lot of the issues with youths could be prevented by parents getting their kids involved in activities including sport and being actively involved with their children and their activities. The town is not a child care service and letting your kids just roam about unsupervised often on these electric scooters and bikes has been causing a lot of issues in the community. Letting your kids roam about at night is not helpful to the kids or the town in general and I cannot believe it is still occurring. I also can’t believe recent incidents of kids supposedly being sick from school being left at home by themselves and then I find them getting up to no good roaming around the town and then on one occasion found that several of them had all apparently gone sick on the same day. A lot of these kids are young and need supervision and if you cannot look after them maybe they need to be left with a relative or responsible guardian when not at school.

Keep safe, Chris.

A Hot Winter

Well we are now in the middle of summer and we have certainly had a few hot days so far, some with high fire ratings and some just unpleasantly hot and humid.

So far in our area we have not had any bad fire events and hopefully it stays that way, some of our members have gone up to the Grampians fires in recent weeks and helped there. Fortunately the majority of these fires have been contained to bush land and property loses have been minimal. It has certainly put a lot of pressure on the communities in that region as they are reliant on tourism and it has been greatly affected and, in some cases, fires have impacted near areas that were burnt in February last year, so it has been a huge effort by the brigades in that region during both summer periods.

These sort of fires that have occurred in the Grampians are what we expect in an Australian summer, possibly not on the scale and area effected as seen in these fires, but nearly every summer there are fires somewhere.

You have probably been, like me been watching on TV, the fires in California and the destruction around Los Angles. This has truly been destruction on an epic scale with

whole blocks of houses just wiped out, not dissimilar to what we have seen on really bad events such as Black Saturday.

There have been some points that have really stood out to me that are exceptional.

•The temperature was more like a summer’s day rather than winter.

•Hot winds of up to 160 kmph, for days on end.

•No major rain events since September.

•Low loss of life, given the amount of destruction.

•Warnings have worked amid a lot of confusion.

These fires have shown that if the conditions are right then even in the winter time, when the fire risk is usually low, the ability for destructive fires to occur is ever present. It has shown that they have problems with water flow in the pipes and issues within the various fire departments. The general consensus is that regardless of the equipment and the personnel these fires would have very hard to stop with the strong winds and high temperatures that were experienced.

Let’s hope we don’t get to experience any conditions like California any time soon.

Ewen Peel Inverleigh CFA.

Five Minutes with DAN TEHAN

Wannon’s hard working local MP is delivering outcomes for our community.

Dan Tehan has been Australia’s Trade Minister, Education Minister and Veterans’ Affairs Minister, and is the Federal Member for Wannon. He lives and works in Hamilton and is a mad Richmond Tigers fan.

Dan, tell us about your job as a Federal Member of Parliament?

It’s the best job in the world, to be honest. My mother was a state MP and she taught me the values of hard work, respect and giving back to your community and that’s how I approach my job as an MP. I also love the variety of my job. One day I’m talking to school children in Inverleigh about Australia’s democracy and the next day I’m helping a business in Inverleigh with a visa issue.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Helping people and delivering for our community is the most rewarding part of the job. I’ve delivered over $3 billion in funding to projects across Wannon. These range in size from new change rooms at sporting clubs to the Federal Government’s $50 million investment in the Great Ocean Road. Every project I have helped with has improved life for people in our community. Even as a Minister in Government, my work has helped local people. As Trade Minister I negotiated the UK Free Trade Agreement that eliminated tariffs on Australian agricultural goods exports to the UK, which has helped our dairy, beef and grain producers in Wannon.

What’s one of the hardest things about your job?

The driving can be daunting. At over 34,000 square kilometres, Wannon is bigger than Belgium, stretching from the South Australian border in the west to almost Geelong, covering the Surf Coast and Great Ocean Road on the coastline right up to Casterton and Ararat in the north. I try as hard as I can to cover the whole electorate

and that means a lot of time away from my home in Hamilton. But I’ve made a commitment to the region and I don’t believe you can properly represent a regional electorate if you don’t live and work in it. I’ve done over 100 listening posts around the electorate in 2024, and more than 1,000 since I was elected. It’s important that I stay connected with the entire electorate as every community is different and it’s important to represent them all.

What is your plan for Wannon?

My plan for Wannon is to keep making our communities the best in Australia to live, work and raise a family. We need to increase funding for our roads, (not cut it like the Albanese Labor Government have done), immediately address cost of living issues, invest in our health network and keep developing our community infrastructure. We also need to support small businesses and farmers—who are the engine room of job creation in the electorate—and deliver practical, local, outcomes for our natural environment. In short, my plan for Wannon is to continue to build on the over $3 billion of funding already delivered, strengthening our communities and way of life.

You might have noticed action at the hall with a fence coming down and a large concrete slab being laid. Soon you will see the erection of the new 9m X 6m insulated shed. The shed and surrounding paths and connections are being funded by a Victorian State Government Tiny Towns $50,000 grant received by the Hall Committee last year. The local contribution is in a lot of in-kind work by our dedicated committee. There will be a garaport at the front which will provide a shaded area within the back yard. The fence and gate will go back ensuring that the yard is child proof again. The shed will be used for storage for the Hall Committee and user groups and to free up areas in the interior of the hall currently used for storage.

IN OTHER NEWS

Welcome to 2025

Welcome to Bannockburn Veterinary Clinic's first newsletter of 2025!

We hope all our clients had a nice break over the christmas and new years period and look forward to caring for your pets in 2025.

Our Vets:

Dr Kelly Bond

Dr Kylie Flanagan

Dr Keeley Hunter

Dr Hugh Gibson

Dr Charlie Sinclair

Dr Dora Tan

Dr Genevieve Nicholson

Welcome Dr Genevieve!

We are very happy to announce Dr Genevieve Nicholson has joined the Bannockburn Vet Clinic team.

You might recognise Dr Genevieve as she has been working with us as a Saturday nurse while completing her studies.

We are very excited to have Gen now joining the clinic as a qualified veterinarian!

Doggies Goggles

Miranda the boxer was more than happy to model her 'doggles' which help prevent injuries to her eyes.

Helga the Maremma

Part of being a country mixed animal practice means our vets often get called out to see large animals such as Sheep, Cows, Horses & Alpacas on farms.

Dr Kylie was recently out on a farm call to treat some lambs.

Helga the maremma was on high alert during the visit (maremma's are bred to protect flocks such as this one) and they managed to capture these great photos.

We think Helga just wanted to be part of the photos too!

Looking Our For Wildlife

Our Australian wildlife may be used to summer heat, but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect them.

Ways we can help:

• Leave shallow dishes of water in the shade. If you use a large container make sure you provide a rock or stick so that small animals can climb out.

• If you can leave dishes up in trees this will help keep wildlife safe from predators.

• If you see wildlife that look distressed contact the clinic or our local wildlife group.

• Save a few local wildlife rescue contacts and the clinic number in your phone so you can ring for advice if you need it.

Heartworm Disease

Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes and has the potential to cause heart failure and death.

Miranda has recently overcome a slow to heal corneal ulcer (a lesion on her cornea that was quite painful). We suspect she obtained the ulcer from running through some long grass/bushes which scratched her eye.

We are hopeful the doggles will prevent any recurrent injuries.

Of course Miranda wanted to make sure her doggie friends' parents were aware of these, not only for safety reasons, but also high fashion!

Your pet does not have to be in contact with other dogs to develop this disease. More than 65% of the dog population in Australia lives in high heartworm expectancy areas. It may only take a single bite from a carrier mosquito to infect your dog.

The parasite larvae move through the tissue beneath the skin. These larvae then migrate to the heart and adjacent blood vessels of the lungs where they grow into adult worms. Infection can occur at any age.

In the early stages of heartworm infection, there may be no outward signs of the disease or they may exhibit minimal signs such as occasional coughing, or exercise intolerance.

Heartworm can be prevented by a once a year injection administered by our veterinarians. An alternative is a monthly dose of Simparica Trio which also protects your pet against fleas, mange, ear mites and the majority of gastrointestinal worms when used on a regular monthly basis.

If you would like to book an appointment to discuss the yearly heartworm injection or to purchase Simparica Trio please contact the clinic on 5281 1221. Most important of all have an amazing holiday!!

Five minutes with

Alex Dyson

The guy who’s put his hand up to help South-West Victoria get a better deal

Alex Dyson grew up in Warrnambool. As a national broadcaster, he interviewed everyone from rockstars to prime ministers. He’s a small business owner, football fanatic, and wants to make politics work again for the communities he loves. The 2025 federal election will be Alex’s third campaign running as a community independent for Wannon. His 2022 people-powered campaign saw Wannon become a marginal electorate for the first time in 67 years.

Alex, you have two campaigns under your belt, and you’re back for a third tilt. What on earth makes you keep doing this? It is such a good question. I am running because I can see that politics puts many people off, and it’s about doing what I can to help and being the change I want to see. I think decades of Wannon being a safe Liberal seat have seen us neglected by the major parties - I mean, look at the state of our roads! I want to see the people of Wannon get a better deal and I want to see politicians in Canberra work harder to win your vote. I’m in a place professionally where I have the time and flexibility to commit to a campaign. I care about where I live and the challenges we face living in the region, and I get annoyed at politicians and how they treat everyday Australians. They come down here and talk about the cost of living and the housing crisis, and I think, “You were in charge for years and helped cause these problems, and now you’re asking us to trust you to fix them?” The big bonus is that I like meeting people, listening to them, and learning about people’s lives. I love people’s stories.

Does it feel different this time around?

We got so close in 2022. This time there is a real sense we can make history and see Wannon elect an independent for the first time. I’m part of a broad grassroots movement that has around 1,000 online supporters, 300 active volunteers and we’ve just celebrated our 500th individual donor. I feel like I have an entire community behind me, ready to work hard to bring it home this election. Together, we’re standing up for Wannon, which is a place that means a lot to all of us.

Do you think you can make a difference as an Independent? You bet I can make a difference! I can represent the true interests of the electorate without being beholden to party lines or big business that

has been pulling strings in politics for many years. I’ll be able to say what I think - not stick to a party line regardless of who’s in power. Wearing a suit every day is not my idea of a good time, but I’m not worried about protecting my job in Canberra and not being affiliated with a party means that I can make long-term decisions that are in the best interest of the people of Wannon rather than protect my political career. When communities vote for independent candidates, they don’t go back. Whether you look at the original community independent Cathy McGowan and now Helen Haines in north-east Victoria, Jacqui Lambie in Tasmania or David Pocock in the Senate in the ACT –community independents speak the truth, represent their electorate’s best interests and get things done. They’re accountable to their voters, no one else.

What do you say to those who have questioned your independence or transparency? I’ve never been involved with any political party and I am a genuine community independent. It became evident in my first campaign, where my entire budget was $5,000, that I’d need more funds to compete with the major parties. None of the 500+ donors to this campaign have a final say in my decisions and all are listed on the community campaign website. I’ve also accepted funds from crowdfunding group Climate200, which supports independents in taking greater action on climate change, integrity in politics, and equal opportunity for women. I’d encourage politicians of all persuasions to be as transparent with their funding as our independent campaign.

Dr Rimas Liubinas

A humble beginning for Bannockburn Surgery when it first opened its doors in 1983 – small rooms located between what was the original supermarket and pharmacy.

Soon outgrowing these rooms, they moved in 1986 to 19 High Street with two consulting rooms, a small treatment room and tiny tearoom for its team members. Its current building (16 High Street) was opened in the year 2000 – a purpose-built practice complete with five consulting rooms and a sixth added in 2010.

The practice has grown from strength to strength and has a wonderfully dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses, Reception team and Practice Manager. They also have access to high-quality Allied Health services including podiatry and newly introduced acupuncture with Dr Rimas Liubinas, with plans for more services to follow.

For Bannockburn Surgery who celebrated their forty-year anniversary a few weeks ago, this was a proud milestone. The surgery welcomed back former team members: doctors, nurses, administration staff, and allied health for an evening of festivities reminiscing on the past forty-years and what the future holds for the practice.

The Directors (and Principal GPs) of Bannockburn Surgery would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to those whom have been part of their practice team, past and present. And also extends a warm thank you to patients for ongoing support in entrusting their health to the team at Bannockburn Surgery and their journey.

The surgery has a proud history and is incredibly excited for the future. Not only the future of Bannockburn Surgery, but also in continuing to support the growing community of Bannockburn and its surrounds. The surgery has grand plans and is eagerly awaiting to commence build

Bannockburn Surgery is a fully accredited medical practice that provides comprehensive GP services and have been practising within the community for 40 years. Bannockburn Surgery is the largest practice within the shire.

of their purpose-built facility to be located next door to their current premises.

It is pleased to announce that another GP Registrar will be joining the team from August, Dr Ernest Cheng, which will extend the provision of service even further. They are also very fortunate that their two current GP Registrars; Dr Bushra Akhund and Dr Abhi Selvakumar will be continuing at the practice for an additional six months.

Bannockburn Surgery doctors will be continuing to bulk-bill patients with healthcare cards and pension cards, as well as those under 16 years old.

Appointments are available daily and the doctors are welcoming new patients.
