A plea from our local Opportunity Shop (Surprise Shop) Volunteers
We are mostly extremely grateful for your donations of clean quality clothes and other household items, but recently we have received many items which we are unable to sell. We must dispose of these, either in our regular curb side collections or take them to either the local tip or recycle centre and in some cases put on a local bonfire.
Currently there is a pile of items to be disposed of by our volunteers.

We ask that you do not drop the following material:-
•Furniture
•Electrical goods
•Car seats
•Suitcases https://www.geelongmums.org/pages/donate-things
There are other places to drop your used items, including your own rubbish bins. Books /Paper/ Carboard can all be recycled in the kerbside collection or dropped off for an advertised book sale.
Small E-Waste items including mobile phones, batteries and printer cartridges can be dropped off at Officeworks.
Computers, TVs etc are recycled free at the Geelong Recycle Centre in Douro Street, North Geelong Children’s items. Geelong Mums has a good web site outlining suitable items for donations.
In anticipation of your cooperation we sincerely thank you.

The Progress Association has been actively working towards improving the amenity of Inverleigh for over 40 years. Of course all such organisations need volunteers and the Association is no exception. Without them nothing happens. If you have some ideas for the town you would like to achieve, you are welcome to join us and help achieve them.
Some of the projects completed by the Progress Association include: meet in the Inverleigh Public Hall
The Federation Bridge which was built to commemorate the centenary of Federation in 2001. Walking Tracks were established with lots of support from the community, including fencing and tree planting. Public Toilets Progress Association members worked for many years with Council to have the old toilets removed and a new block built, which did not detract from the entrance to our town. They are used more than any other toilets in the Shire.
The Clock a new clock was recently installed on the clock tower in our main street, clearly visable from the General Store across the road.
Town Entrance Signs. IPA worked for many years to procure the 2 Entrance Signs (Hamilton Highway East and West) welcoming travellers to our town.
The Inverleigh Historical Society was formed in 2004. It operates under the auspices of the Inverleigh Mechanics Institute and Public Hall Committee.
Our Aims are to collect and preserve items of local historic interest and to promote research and interest in local history.

VISITORS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME
We welcome all donations to our collection or the opportunity to copy material. We are most grateful to the many people who have kept the Historical Society in mind as they sorted through their own collections. We undertake many interesting projects and have enjoyable meetings, which you are welcome to attend.
Peter’s Editorial
As you can see there is a Licensed Snake Catcher available in our district. Give Mike a Call if you have a slightly unwelcome visitor. There are 2 important charity fund raisers coming up in the next 2 months. The fabulous Dachshund Derby is on the 5th of March at the inverleigh Sporting Complex. I was there last year and what a success it was. A miniature Queen Elizabeth II paid us a visit with one of her Corgi's. I wonder if King Charles will make an appearance. I did see several King Charles Spaniels last Year. And coming up on the 7th April, after a long Covid induced holiday is the Inverleigh and District Good Friday Appeal. Start putting some spare cash aside now as the Auctions will be back too.
From the Mayor’s Desk March 2023
It has been a big start to 2023 with plenty of new projects and initiatives underway across the Shire.
Reflecting on 2022, October and November saw Victoria experience record rainfall which has put a renewed spotlight on our roadways. We all know how devastating floodwaters can be and a huge task it is to rebuild, so I just wanted to take a moment to thank Council’s outdoor maintenance teams who have been working tirelessly to reinstate our roadways and other community infrastructure.
Since the unprecedented high rainfall, we have reinstated over 100 roadways with works continuing throughout 2023.
I always appreciate and acknowledge the great work they do and on behalf of my fellow Councillors, I would like to personally thank them as they continue

Lots of Little Legs
featured in the I.H.S. calendar for March 2023.
The next Inverleigh Dachshund Derby will be held on the 5th March 2023 this will be its 11th year of running the event.
The event was first created when six locals - Carol Perrett, Denise Cook, Steve Cook, Marlene Gillett, Max Gillett and Margie Taylor from Cobden who all shared the obsession of Dachshunds and having in the past attended the Port Fairy Dachshund Dash, decided to run a similar event centred around the breed. When the event first started two other locals Helen & Tony den Hartog were very instrumental in getting this event up and running. The inaugural event which commenced in 2012 was held at Victoria Park in Inverleigh, however as the event grew & with the implemented watering system at the Inverleigh Sporting Complex provided wonderful lush grass, it was decided to move the event to Railway Street.
The Dachshund Derby day consists of a program of 10 events, the most popular of these being the fancy dress, pooper scooper, cutest puppy and of course the All Breeds & Dachshund Derby which sometimes comes down to a photo finish.
The day is all about small dogs. To enter on the day your dog must be below 30cm's at the shoulder, other breeds that attend are pugs, fox terriers, schnauzers and corgis. However, all dogs are welcome on the day to come and socialise and enjoy the festivities. We anticipate that this year we will have about 100 dogs participating on the day and approximately 20 stallholders. The majority of the stallholders will be selling a range of dog related products. Local Heather Spiller will attend with her plant stall, Teesdale CWA are having a cake stall, petting zoo & face painters for the kids and Timboon Ice-cream just to name a few. The Inverleigh Cricket Club will be running the canteen as well as a sausage sizzle so we encourage all locals to get down and support the cricketers and buy some lunch.
The event continues to grow each year with the introduction of social media we find people come from far & wide to attend. The current committee still only consists of only handful of people which is a big undertaking for such a small group.
We are fortunate we have the support of the Inverleigh Lions Club that help with the set up and pack down of marquees and manning the gate.
Our group is very proud of this event and how it has grown and we all like to think it puts Inverleigh on the map.
