Council is now inviting residents to have their say on the Golden Plains Shire Draft Budget

2023/24 (Draft Budget).

At the Council meeting on Wednesday 26 April, 2023, Councillors endorsed the Draft Budget for public exhibition.

Copies of the Draft Budget are available on Council’s website and at Council’s Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

In May, Council’s Finance team will host an online engagement forum to advise on the budget submission process and provide an opportunity for questions on the Draft Budget.

Council will hold a meeting at the Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn at 6pm, Tuesday 6 June, and everyone who lodges a written submission may request to present it to Councillors.

The final Budget 2023/24 will be considered for adoption by Council at its meeting in Bannockburn on Tuesday 27 June, 2023.

Along with the preparation and endorsement of the Draft Budget, April was a busy month for myself and my fellow Councillors as we got out and about across the Shire for a number of events including the ANZAC Day services throughout the Shire and the National Volunteers Week celebration.

I was also delighted to attend the unveiling of the 1.75m bronze sculpture

Council is hosting two free community grant writing workshops to assist community members with developing quality project plans and enhancing their chances of preparing successful grant applications.

The workshops will be facilitated by Simon Coutts from Grantus and Council officers who will guide participants on the grant writing process and help community members identify the most suitable grants for their projects. The grant writing workshops will also introduce attendees to

2 Pope Street, Bannockburn, VIC 3331 of Linton-born war surgeon and Victoria’s first Director of Infant and Maternal Health, Dr Vera Scantlebury Brown OBE, in Linton.

Unveiled by the Hon Natalie Hutchins MP, Minister for Women, and sculpted by local artist Lucy McEachern, the sculpture is a valuable addition to the historic Linton township and is an important step towards recognising women’s leadership and service across the Shire.

Driven by the community, with support from the Linton and District Historical Society, the artwork is funded by $116,811 from the Victorian Government’s Victorian Women’s Public Art Program with an additional $39,575 (including $9,680 in-kind) contribution from Council.

I would encourage all residents, and visitors to Golden Plains, to visit the impressive sculpture, located in the Avenue of Honour, on their next trip to Linton.
