Sambourne House Museum Cairene bone and hardwood table

Linley Sambourne records the purchase of this table in 1892, when he spotted it in the window of a shop called Goff’s on his way to his club. Something of an impulse buy for the Morning Room! The top is hexagonal, the legs are turned, the sides alternate between turned lattice and inlay, and the whole piece is richly inlaid with bone and beautifully iridescent mother-of-pearl. The table appears in a photograph taken by Sambourne in 1893 with one of his models Mrs Madge King perched on top.
