Leighton House, view from the garden Frederic, Lord Leighton purchased a plot of land on the edge of Holland Park in 1864 and commissioned his old friend George Aitchison as his architect. Over the next 30 years they worked together not only on the first phase of construction but on a series of extensions, creating the remarkable and unique palace of art we know today. The north façade overlooks the garden, now extended with the addition of a spectacular helical staircase built within an imposing brick rotunda and decorated with a hand-painted 11-metre-high mural created by Shahrzad Ghaffari.
