How to Trace and Transfer your Drawings onto Watercolour Paper Step 1: Place a sheet of tracing paper over the image you want to draw. Tape or paperclip the paper in place. Use a pencil to trace over the lines of your image.

Step 2: Once you have traced your image, flip the tracing paper around so that the side with pencil on it is touching the watercolour paper. Draw over the lines with a sharp pencil. Your pencil lines should transfer onto the watercolour paper - check that they are coming through!

Step 3: Once you’ve finished carefully drawing over the lines, remove your tracing paper. Your design should have transferred onto the watercolour paper. Congratulations! You’re ready to paint!
