“SERVING HUMANITY WITH LOVE AND UNITY”
District Governor 60B, Errol Lee, MJF rrl_lee@yahoo.com
DISTRICT GOVERNOR CHALLENGES CLUBS “Publicize your Events; increase memberships and partnerships” District Governor, Errol Lee, MJF, is calling on all Lions to rekindle the fire within to help the less fortunate. At his recent inauguration he said “the formula is simple, choose a project that is crying out for attention…a poor man’s house, a derelict basic school, a denuded hillside or clinic and bring it to public’s attention. Seek partnerships with public and private sector entities for material and financial help. Make sure the media is present when you receive the donation. He said “It’s the exposure you receive in the mass media and social media that will attract new members." He told club members that their story will tell itself if it receives enough attention. He said that some people are scared of Facebook and Instagram. He suggested that clubs let others who know how to post, manage their social media pages. He said “Social media is here to stay and clubs need to be a part of it.” District Governor Errol said that small clubs with a dozen active members are going to find it difficult to take on substantial projects. He urged clubs to join with other entities in their communities, including other voluntary organizations, churches, schools and government agencies, because they are struggling too and will respond favourably to an approach from a Lions Club which has an enviable reputation in the community. In the process, clubs will be seen as an activist organization and will not have to start from scratch with introductions about Lionism when they approach a lawyer, doctor, or other potential member to consider joining. He implored clubs to resist insularity wherever it rears its ugly head and banish cliques within the club so that new members will feel welcome and valued.
PUBLICIZING YOUR EVENTS As the District Governor has challenged clubs to use publicity to get the word out about Lions, your District PR team has pulled together a presentation to give members ideas about how to get publicity for events. 1
