a. Embark on a major project that will require significant funding, partner with local authorities, the private sector

and a grant from Lions International. b. Recruit individuals with the necessary skill sets to assist the Club in this undertaking. c. Establish a foundation through which this project will be conceptualized,
funded
and
operated.
(This is very
important to secure tax-exempt status for your expenditure and tax write-offs for corporate donors) 1
d. Undertake a survey to determine the greatest need in your community and become part of the solution. e. Lead by example. For the smaller clubs struggling to maintain membership of 30 with active membership of 20 or below, all the above points apply with the addition of a few, namely: a. Piggyback on an existing community-based activity.(e.g PTA, Alumni, Sports Club, 4-H or Police Youth Club) in your area. A few of those busy individuals who keep those groups going will find the time to become active Lions. b. Advertise your club in church and the workplace. Do up a neat flyer and send to select groups via Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter etc. and hardcopy for those who are not on social media. c. Utilize the occasion of your anniversary dinner to invite a notable guest speaker who will attract media coverage. This is also an opportunity to entertain persons who you wish to invite into the club. This brief message is meant to start us thinking about how we can grow and make our mark in our society. Please send me your feedback. Finally I wish to thank the Lions of Zone 4C (Cayman Islands) for hosting myself and Region Chair Cynthia Peart, PMJF, so royally as I did my audits last month. I look forward to seeing everyone at the mid-year conference this week. Lion Errol Lee, MJF District Governor 60B
CLUB EVENTS
CLUB EVENTS LEO CLUB OF NEW KINGSTON’S HEART HEALTH PROGRAMME Unsatisfied with their recent Heart Disease Prevention Social Media Campaign in September, the Leo Club of New Kingston visited the Early Steps Basic School in Patrick City on Friday, October 21, 2016 to create “Rainbow Hearts.”
2
“Rainbow Hearts” is a project initiative geared towards building awareness and promoting action against heart disease in children. The team prepared delicious fruit cups for the children with a rainbow theme to entice and educate the children. The opportunity was used to educate children on ways to take care of their hearts with a spill off of learning fruits and colours.
In the Heart Disease Prevention Presentation the Leo President encouraged the children to eat well, exercise and rest to take care of their hearts in order to "live long long long long long!!”

WORLD DIABETES DAY IS NOVEMBER 14
Diabetes Awareness Programs Raising Diabetes Awareness, Preserving Sight The World Health Organization estimates that over 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, a growing world epidemic that is expected to affect over 642 million by 2040.
Diabetes and Vision Loss People with diabetes are at risk of losing sight due to diabetes eye disease. It is the leading cause of new-onset blindness in many countries. All people with diabetes – both Type 1 and Type 2 – are at risk. That’s why everyone with diabetes should get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. Diabetes can lead to other possible complications, including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, and nerve damage. In pregnancy, poorly controlled diabetes increases the risk of fetal death and other complications.
Lions and Diabetes Awareness With these statistics and concerns in mind, Lions have taken action through the Diabetes Awareness and Action Program. Our work supports diabetes awareness, education, prevention, detection, control, and research.
Joining Forces to Fight Diabetes Lions work with local community partners and national diabetes associations to promote diabetes education and awareness throughout the year. We also commemorate World Diabetes Day, an annual campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation on November 14. Partner organizations that support Lions in their efforts include:
The World Health Organization Diabetes Education and Camping Association
