“ Do anything, but let it produce joy.” — WALT WHITMAN, LEAVES OF GRASS

Over the past year we have witnessed a voracious appetite for jewels from collectors across the globe. While appreciating (and collecting) the finer things in life is not a new construct, these recent months have instilled in us an overwhelming desire to take heed of the little things in life that bring us joy – true friendships, loving gestures, whimsy, cherished recollections, treasured objects, sentiments shared. It is these guiding principles that have inspired me to assemble this extraordinary collection of Important Jewels for our August auction in Sydney. A remarkable carpe diem collection of exceptional jewels; the spectacular beauty of gemstones, unparalleled craftsmanship, and unique designs are the epitome of life’s little pleasures. Leading the sale is an exceptionally rare and important 1.01 carat Argyle Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond ring (lot 39), with another remarkable 9.76 carat antique cushion-shaped diamond ring also decorated with two rare Argyle Fancy Pink diamonds (lot 73). Likewise, the extraordinary cover piece, a spectacular 14.55 carat Fancy Light Yellow diamond ring (lot 59) brings an unparalleled warming quality, only intensified when paired with the equally striking pair of 2.31 carat and 2.26 carat Fancy Intense Yellow and Argyle Fancy Pink diamond ear studs (lot 26). Other exceptional sale highlights include two remarkable pairs of pendant earrings – lot 49, each cushion-shaped stone weighing 8.88 carats and 8.76 carats, and lot 61, a pair of 5.03 and 5.01 carat pear-shaped diamond swing drop earrings. Of additional note is an impressive 10.02 carat cushion-shaped

diamond ring (lot 38) and a stunning 3.08 carat rose-cut diamond cocktail ring (lot 67), a uniquely beautiful and extremely rare piece to the auction market. The August Important Jewels collection also showcases an array of beautiful designs from the hallowed jewellery houses of Tiffany & Co., Graff, Bulgari, Oscar Heyman, H. Stern, Autore, Rolex and Van Cleef & Arpels. Of particular note is an exceptional diamond necklace by Graff (lot 87), the famed ’Nuvole’ necklace from Bulgari (lot 16), and an array of elegant, signed pieces including a Tiffany & Co. gold 'mesh' necklace (lot 158) and matching bracelet (lot 157), and a Frank Gehry for Tiffany & Co. modern cuff (lot 160). The sale also includes an exciting selection of coloured stones including a spectacular 43.85 carat aquamarine ring (lot 18), a Zambian emerald ring (lot 54), an elegant 11.16 carat Sri Lankan sapphire and Argyle Pink diamond ring (lot 55), and two wonderfully fiery citrine pieces, a stunning pair of ‘Tablet’ pendant earrings by Angelina Jolie for Robert Procop (lot 1) and a remarkable Paolo Costagli bracelet (lot 3). While the pieces in this collection have been collected to ‘suit every occasion’, one can now say with confidence that these pieces were designed ‘to suit every occasion, regardless of occasion’...carpe diem, especially if it brings you joy. — Hamish Sharma | Head of Important Jewels
