A Dazzling Collection I am delighted to present the March 2021 Fine Jewels auction, featuring a diverse selection of jewellery and timepieces for new and seasoned collectors alike. The collection is varied, ranging from antique to mid-century and contemporary, and includes a selection of signed pieces from international jewellery houses. Leading the auction is Lot 82, a three stone diamond ring in platinum, centrally set with an exceptional central oval diamond of 3.01cts. Also of significance is Lot 197 featuring an 8.12ct fancy light yellow diamond, along with two natural fancy yellowgreen diamonds of over 1ct each. Alongside contemporary pieces, we have an important selection of antique jewellery including two pieces attributed to Alfred Lorking. Active as a jeweller in Sydney between 1853 – 1859 Lorking’s pieces often feature grapevine motifs formed from delicate pearl and gold work, as seen in Lots 9 and 10. Exceptionally rare on the secondary market, the presentation of these pieces at auction is a special opportunity to acquire a museum quality piece of early Australian jewellery. Many fabulous 20th Century pieces are featured throughout the auction, from stylish Art Deco diamond earrings (Lot 2), to the unapologetically colourful sapphire, ruby and diamond brooch (lot 84) and the sophisticated 1980s Piaget diamond wristwatch (Lot 91). We have also had the pleasure of handling a number of iconic pieces from international houses including Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari and Cartier, with my personal favourite being the lapis lazuli and gold necklace by Tiffany & Co. pictured opposite (Lot 129). It has been an absolute pleasure to curate this exciting selection of jewellery and timepieces and we look forward to sharing it with you at our Sydney and Melbourne viewings. Gram weight on gold and other precious metals are also given as an approximation. Property subject to the Artist Resale Royalty Lots with the § sign will be subject to payment of the Artist Resale Royalty in the event that the lot is sold for a hammer price of $1,000 or more. The Australian Resale Royalty is a flat rate of 5 percent (5%) levy on the hammer price (including GST). Damage Any viewer who damages a Lot will be held liable for all damage caused and shall reimburse Leonard Joel for all costs and expenses relating to rectification of such damage.
