17 A CHINESE YIXING TEAPOT, ‘100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF BA JIN’ FAN XIJUN (BORN 1969), CIRCA 2003 The teapot in the form of an upright book, the handle in the form of a magnifying glass, the lidhandle in the form of a fountain-pen nib, the spout in the form of a bamboo shoot. Decorated to one side with a fine incised portrait of Ba Jin, the reverse with a calligraphic inscription. The teapot titled ‘100th Anniversary of the Birth of Ba Jin’. 33 A LARGE CHINESE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The square box deeply carved depicting a gathering of scholars drinking wine with attendants in a landscape with mountains in the background, all within a shaped reserve to the centre of the lid, surrounded by scrolling Indian lotus. The background of the figures and surround, and the sides of the box carved with different complex diaper motifs, the interior lacquered plain black. 6cm high, 22cm wide, 22cm deep $8,000-10,000

62 A SMALL CHINESE WHITE WARE JAR TANG DYNASTY (618-907) The small jar with a high splayed foot, and two loupe handles attached at the shoulder, covered in a creamy buff coloured crackled glaze coloured blue where it pools in the crevasses. 9cm high, 11cm diameter $400-600
67 A CHINESE MOULDED QINGBAI BOWL SOUTHERN SONG/YUAN DYNASTY (13TH/14TH CENTURY) The shallow bowl finely moulded with a crane in a lotus pond to the centre, and six shaped reserves around the cavetto depicting peony flowers. The footrim glazed but the mouth rim unglazed. The whole covered in an ivory coloured glaze, in imitation of wares from the Dingyao kilns. Some remnant original silver rim. Together with an old Japanese wood box. 4cm high, 18cm diameter $800-1,000

66 A CHINESE MOULDED SANCAI DISH LIAO DYNASTY (907-1125) The dish with moulded decoration depicting an open lotus flower, covered in a three colour lead glaze of green, amber and white, the flat base unglazed showing a reddish coloured paste. 2.6cm high, 12.7cm diameter $2,000-3,000

69 A CHINESE DANGYANGYU HARES FUR BOWL NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (960-1127) The conical form bowl with everted rim, covered in a fine dark glaze exhibiting blue-green hare’s fur effect to both the interior and exterior, running thin at the rim to reveal an olive-brown colour. The glaze running evenly to surround the subtly recessed foot. 5.5cm high, 13cm diameter $1,200-1,500

80 A LARGE CHINESE ‘CHANGSHA’ EWER TANG DYNASTY (618-907) The ewer of ovoid form with a cylindrical neck with a flaring mouth rim, with a large strap-handle to the rear and two smaller strap-handles to the sides, each formed from three rolled lengths of clay joined together, with an octagonal tapered spout to the shoulder at the front. Below the two side handles and the spout is a relief moulded applique panel depicting grape vines, the appliques splashed with brown, the whole covered in a pale olive green crackled glaze. 23.5cm high, 17cm wide $2,000-4,000
82 A SMALL CHINESE LONGQUAN CELADON LOTUS-FORM JAR SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY (1127-1279) Of rounded compressed baluster form, with vertical-ribbed body, covered in an excellent jade green coloured glaze with a broad attractive crackle. Together with an old Japanese wooden lid, for use as a natsume (tea cannister), and a high quality custom made Japanese wooden box. The ceramic 7cm high, 9cm diameter $2,000-4,000

88 A LARGE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE CENSER KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722) The censer of bombe form decorated in underglaze blue and with a cafe au lait rim, the rim further bound in bronze, decorated to the central register with a continuous scene depicting the seven sages of the bamboo grove, and the upper register decorated with four sprays of rose or peony. The base with a double blue line within the footrim. 14.5cm high, 23cm diameter. $3,000-5,000

89 A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE DRAGON AND BUTTERFLY DISHES GUANGXU MARK AND PERIOD (1875-1908) Decorated to the centre with a forward facing dragon with five claws in iron red surrounded by clouds and flames, chasing a flaming pearl, surrounded by delicately painted butterflies of different species, the rim decorated with four shaped reserves with flowers and precious objects, against a scrolling double gourd pattern ground. The reverse with a six character mark in regular script for Guangxu in iron red. each 3cm high, 24.5cm diameter PROVENANCE: Gifted to the parents of the current owner while living in Hong Kong in the 1980s. $3,000-5,000

105 A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE TRAY XIANFENG PERIOD (1850-1861) The hexagonal foliate rim tray decorated in famille rose enamels and gilding to the interior depicting the eight immortals drinking wine together within a garden setting, the central figure of Zhongli Quan seated at a table holding up his cup to be filled by Han Xiangzi. 2cm high, 26cm diameter. $1,200-1,800

160 A PAIR OF LARGE JAPANESE EXPORT KO IMARI VASES EARLY EDO PERIOD, GENROKU (1688-1704) The large trumpet shaped vases decorated in kinrande style in underglaze blue, iron red and gilding, with bijin (beautiful women) amongst cherry blossom, and carp ascending a waterfall. This pair of vases was originally part of a five-piece garniture. One vase very attractively repaired with gold lacquer (kintsugi). Each together with a custom made Japanese wooden box. $4,000-6,000

134 A CHINESE EXPORT HARDWOOD FOLDING GAMES TABLE LATE QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY The table of dark lacquered hardwood with a folding top which opens to reveal a surface for playing games, on four cabriole legs with lion mask shoulders and claw and ball feet, the whole intricately carved with dragons amongst clouds, including an elaborately pierced apron to each side. $1,200-1,800

148 AN INDIAN SILVER INLAID JAIN BRONZE PANCHATIRTHA CIRCA 17TH CENTURY The five-Jina image, or Panchatirtha, with the central Jina seated in padmasana on a lion throne, with silver inlaid eyes and diamond shaped lozenge marking the chest, surmounted by a royal parasol and elaborate mandorla with figures including worshippers. To the reverse of the image is a lengthy Sanskrit inscription in Devanagari script. 18cm high, 12cm wide $2,000-3,000

172 A RARE TIBETAN PAINTED FOLDING ALTAR TABLE (TEPCHOG) 19TH CENTURY The folding wooden table intricately painted with ‘shou’ and ‘fu’ characters to the top surface in polychrome mineral pigments, the apron under the pediment relief carved with shou characters, bats and auspicious offerings, and further decorated with mineral pigments, the front and side folding panels carved to simulate bamboo segments in a lattice-grid, the spaces within the lattice inset with transparent mica panes. 35cm high, 68cm wide, 33cm deep $800-1,200

Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986 (PMCH Act). The PMCH Act regulates the export of nationally significant heritage objects, it is not intended to restrict normal and legitimate trade in cultural property, and does not affect an individual’s right to own or sell objects, within Australia. The PMCH Act was enacted in response to the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. It is the responsibility of the Buyer to ensure that the export of any lots purchased are not subject to, or in breach of, this Act.

It is not intended to restrict normal and legitimate trade in cultural property and does not affect an individual’s right to own or sell within Australia. The PMCH Act implements a system of export permits for certain heritage objects defined as ‘Australian protected objects’.
