Week Three
Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age
Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)
Kolerevic classified types of fabrication techniques into 3 main categories, subtractive fabrication, additive fabrication, and formative fabrication. Substractive fabircation is described as a process in which a certain mass of material is removed from a solid to achieve an intended form, examples of this fabrication methods are electro-, chemically-reductive milling processes which works iwithin the three dimensional axis. Meanwhile, Additive fabrication is described as a process of adding form layer by layer with materials. Lastly, formative fabrication is described as a process in which materials are heated to be eshaped into the desired form, examples of this fabrication method is 3d printing and hot rolling steel. The technology of computer numeri controlled fabrication with paramatric modelling has the ability of fabricating end products of desigh with the straight input from the computer software. this eliminates mediatery processes which are more time consuming, therefore speeding the process of design towards the end product. the usage of parametric modelling also increases immediate creative iterations of designs simply with input modifications.

Week Three
Surface Creation
My main design intention for the surface iterations was to create an enveloping surface that is heavily based on the horizontal plane that gradually forms itself to a point within the sky. This is heavily inspired by Kenzo Tange’s St Mary Cathedral and the Yoyogi National Gymnasium. The use of parametric modelling through grasshopper has thoroughly helped the process, as the script for the surfaces are set, only inputs on certain points of the surfaces adjusted. The first few iterations are close to my visualization of the surface, but it does not enevlop most of the entire base surface and lacks variety through its symmetry. The final iteration (bottom right) succeeds in creating asymmety as a variety, and relation between the two surfaces with one slightly larger than the other, and emphasizes the gradual shape from the ground plane to the top point.

Week Four Panels & Waffle
The panels are intended to support the visual form of the structure. openings are created to be as large as possible in order for the waffle structure to be visible. Slightly higher sides of the panel were used to control the viewing of the interior, and each surface’s panels are in opposite iterations to create antagonistic relation between them.
Because of the shape of the surfaces, the waffle structure indicates the gradual change of size from the horizontal plane towards the top point which includes a transformation of shape. this skeletal structure seen individually emphasizes the built form through its semi circular shape

Week Four
Laser Cutting
During the creation of the laser cutting file, systematic labeling was needed for the individual parts. The usage of grasshopper in the waffle structure in contrast with the manual labeling for the panels creates ease for the process and ability to change design by the inputs to directly create the final result instantly.

Week Five
My main design intention with the second task was to create ciruclar arching caves focused on a certain corner of the base box, This was meant to create an overarching cubical form from the top corner opposite to the boolean solids on the bottom corner placed by an attractor point. well-transitioned columns and supporting forms were intended to be created from the spaces inbetween the boolean shapes. The first few iterations succeeds in creating that form, but the gradient between the main structure and the base surface were not as well made as the final iteration’s semi circular forms. The grasshopper tool of solid difference at the end of the script has helped make the choice of the iteration more efficient.

Week Five
Isometric
The spatial qualities created by the boolean has made organic forms of arches and variety of openings, some with openings within openings with very clear relation from one another. the opening within the opening if seen as a pavillion creates a border for the transitional space inbetween the more internal interior and it’s borders. the deeper interiors are also facilitated by openings to allow light. a column form created by the space in between the boolean shape has form heavily related to the opening’s shape, which helps transition itsel towards the heavier base on the structure’s opposite side in the horizontal plane. the heavier side is also well transitioned to the groundplane with its form transitioning in a semi circular notion towards the ground.

Week Six Task 01
Task 01 Matrix Attractor points were used to emphasize the shape of the structure, the direction of of the offset grid in previous iterations were intended to be directed symmetrically at certain points to indicate its shape. i chose to focus on an antagonistic dynamic between the two different surface as it creates opposite directionality and relation between the surface while simultaneously help indicate the structure’s form, which is why the points were located opposite to each other in the final form. The panels were inteded to have large openings to view the internal structure. Previous iterations of the panel did not succeed in enlarging the view of the waffle and controlling the view of the internal structure. The chosen panel succeeds and additionally emphasize the opposite relationship between the two surfaces.

Week Six
Task 02 Matrix Strong attraction points were used with the intention of colluding the boolean shapes to creating a main internal space with columns made from the spaces inbetween the boolean forms. Previous iterations of the attraction points did not succeed in creating rellationship between the cubes form and where it touches the ground plane. focusing the attraction towards a corner succeeds in doing this in the final iteration. In sectioning the cut, previous iterations did not suceed in creating columns and well transitioned form from the ground plane towards the cube’s visible form, while the chosen iteration suceeds.
