MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

How to measure a Croissant? Using orthographic projections, we are meant to understand the shape of the croissant, meanwhile, we use section cuts to perceive the cross section of the croissant for the axonometric view. We then trace the shapes of both orthographic projections and the cross sections to then and add shadows to help perceive the form of the croissant. We end with creating an axonometric projection of the croissant made from a 10 by 10 mm grid on the section cuts that we project on top of a base to create the 3dimensional view of the croissant.

NEW MARIO WORLD

The making of new Mario world. Expanding on the concept of axonometric projection, we are meant to perceive and create the 3d formation of a complicated 2dimensional form of representation. Using 2 sections of Mario World, we created an axonometric form of the levels in the 3dimensional plane. The world has open interpretations, which we are given as an opportunity to design it towards our creative interest. From this module, we were able to sharpen our software skills on programs such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. I tried to achieve a surrealist video game aesthetic towards the world to establish the jubilant theme of the world

Tools. T square, pencil, pens , tape, and tracing papers

Projection. Using one of the tracing papers, tilt in 45% in relation to one of the mario worlds to create the axonometrical projection

Finalize. Combine the pencil lines for two different sides of the axonometric and finalize with pen before exporting to Adobe Illustrator for rendering and decoration

PAPER LANDSCAPE

The making of new landscape Using the 3d modeling software Rhino, we are given the opportunity to realize our creative vision towards a section of the surface of Tasmania with our own patterns. The traditional way to take inspirations of design is towards nature, I intended to head in another direction to take inspirations from artificial technology. This is shown by the Morse code pattern I arranged the pattern based off, expressing a quote regarding synthetic consciousness, “I think, therefore I am.

Given Terrain. With panneling tools, the given terrain is segmented as preparation for creating our customized patterns

Customized pattern creation. We are given opportunity to create our own models of patterns before applying it to the surface

Pattern creation. After applying our customized pattern towards the terrain, i custmized the pattern to morse corde.

Paper modelling. Conversion process from the 3d model to paper by using surface unrolling, followed by cutting and gluing.

INVISIBLE CITY

TRADING CITIES 3: EUTROPIA Trading Cities 3 - Eutropia The city of Eutropia is a city of change, it is made out of identical cities sitting next to each other, but only one is lived on at a time. Every time life gets stale for the cities, the city moves to another and is found to be living a life different from the previous. I intended to showcase this using animal masks and people to showcase the change of role within a society every time they move. Each of the masks is showcased in each of one “city, presented with one of nine sections of the old quad construction.

Perspective 1 The characters are humans using head masks of animals that all live within the same habitat, presenting how each of the characters have a part within their whole “ecosystem. To showcase the unpopulated identical cities within Eutropia, the other parts of the old quad blocks include displays of the animal head masks, where the characters can switch masks every time they enter a new quadrant of the city.

16

Perspective 2 This scene is intended to show the location of the characters or the “city within the quad, which is the centre of it. as the story tells, the characters move from city to city, so indicating where the characters are and how empty the other quads are is important

REFLECTION From these projects, I have learned how to implement ideas towards requirements in terms of design. In all of our modules, we are limited with resources and requirements for each of our module, and we are expected to create something that signifies its own identity in terms of creativity. From this, we have learned the importance of how to implement ideas by either limiting or expanding them. I have also learned the importance of things within the design world, from larger ideas such as design concepts until smaller details such as layouts and consistency. Lastly, we are also given the experience to showcase the importance of time management in every single one of our modules. In this module, we are fortunate to practice our creative skills such as conceptualizing designs, other skills such as hatching to give a sense of depth, or even skills to draw axonometric projections to realize an image from the 2-dimensional plane to create something in 3d. We are also given workshops guiding us to use important design soft wares, in which we are given the opportunity to learn basics of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, and most important of all, Rhino. We learned how to edit, mask, cut, or clean photos in Photoshop, creating vector configurations in adobe illustrator, Laying out pages in Indesign, and create 3-dimensional creations in Rhino.

My least successful module is the Mario world axonometric. Without the proper skill to manage time, I wasn’t able to finish the project on time of the presentation and resulting in one of my least impressive works. To improve upon it I intend to manage my time better towards the future. The application of my concept of the surface pattern is also not as successful as intended, and I intend to prioritize transferring a concept towards a pattern in a more connective manner with the purpose of taking inspirations and its realization.
