Location Tunisia is located in North Africa on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea between Algeria and Libya. Capital: Tunis Main Cities: Tunis, Sfax, Ariana, Sousse and Ettadhamen.


The Flag The flag of Tunisia was adopted on July 3, 1999. - The crescent moon and star symbolize Islam. The white circle in the center of the flag represents the Sun. - The color red represents the blood of the Tunisian people, shed in the war of conquest of Ottoman Empire in 1574. White color symbolizes peace.

Carthage

It was founded in 814 BC by the Phoenicians and was destroyed during the Punic Wars, later to be retaken by the Romans.


The ancient city of Carthage was founded by the Phoenicians on the north coast of Africa around 800 bc. Until it was conquered by Rome in 146 bc, the city was the mercantile center of the western Mediterranean Sea. The Carthaginians were navigators and merchants. They traded food products, textiles, slaves and metals such as tin, silver, gold and iron. Carthage, which began as a Phoenician colony, thrived from the late sixth century BC, even founding its own colonies in northern Africa, southern Spain and the Mediterranean Carthage was defeated by Rome after a series of wars that received the name of Punic Wars, due to the name by which the Romans called the Phoenicians, "poeni". In 533, the Byzantine Empire took control of the region. The Arabs conquered the city in 705 and made the neighboring city of Tunis its capital.

Conclusion Each country has its culture and some have customs more similar to ours and others much less. Tunisia was a territory occupied by many peoples whose influences are perceived in the constructions In this country we can find medinas and mosques, as well as Roman monuments such as the second largest Roman coliseum, El Jem. Tunisia has lots of historical attractions and archaeological riches.
