1.3 Project Approach

What makes this node so important is that it is located in the intersection of Bab Jaded axe and Basha road although it is not activated as well. The landuse of this node on the ground floor is often

used as a commercial ( shops, outlets and wholesale suppliers) which cut visibility on the most important historical monuments And it caused the loss of architectural identity for the node.

1.0 Introduction

1.4 Problem statement

The lack of public interest in the region is seen in several sectors. One of the most important sectors is public entertainment. The sector also suffers from non-intervention by the authorities. The entertainment aspect leads to the city's recovery and enhancement through artistic and creative performances. The cinemas witnessed a deterioration that ended, closed the doors and prevented the public. Whoever opens the cinema will be punished and fined. Today in the city, we do not find cinemas, which were one of the busiest places by taking space for entertainment and culture and have an influential business mobility on the streets.

One of the squares located on the street gold and used as car parks in the absence of a public square for people facilitates their movement from west to east towards the

depth of the historic area .

Cinemas for a long time have been important for the rehabilitation of the masses spaces, filming not only seen but were for the meeting and entertainment, the formation of

critics, the cultural and social identity of the community as a whole.

Before (1926 AD), the cinema was available in Jeddah and is still surrounded by its walls: in the second floor of the Indian Embassy, which was based in Beit Bajnid, the seafront, or in special offers for the homes of the wealthy.

In (1926 AD) , film buffs flourished in the city of Jeddah thanks to cinema pioneer Fuad Jamjoom, who provided a showroom in the Aljajajmah neighborhood in Baghdadia district in front of the tomb of Amna Hawa. A shop was opened next to it to rent cinema equipment to the rest of the cinema and individuals.

In (1978 AD), due to religious changes in the local and government communities, the decision to ban movie theaters across the country was imposed, and sanctions were imposed on those who dared to open a cinema or similar activity.

1.0 Introduction 1.7 Local newspapers

It is not without the pages of the local newspapers to mention the news of initiatives in the field of cinema, which means that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has mobility and cinema enthusiasm requires the opportunity to make room for him to start and benefit and benefit from the social and material. The film industry creates jobs for the skilled and unskilled labor force. They need specialized technicians who have the skills to perform certain jobs, as well as some workers who do not have any special skills.

1.0 Introduction 1.8 Saudi Films

Cinema in Saudi Arabia is not new but has a deep historical depth since the 1950s to the present day. On the other hand, these films compete for the top positions in the world and local festivals and hence the giant sign of understanding. Is it possible that these films are from a non-cinema country?!!! There is not even one cinema hall? Without a doubt, the directors of these home-made films want their message to reach the local community first and then international, hence the urgent need for cinema halls to address the public from the local community. ‫ﻣﺨﺎﻃﺒﺔ اﻟﺠﻤﻬﻮر ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﺠﺘﻤﻊ اﻟﻤﺤﻠﻲ‬

The site of the project for the historical Jeddah area as a whole and as shown that the site of the project is located between the most important axes in the historic area, namely Abu Anaba axis, which is today the historical axis, which pours the most important historical buildings, which starts from a new door to the north and intersects with the axis of the upper commercial arena Beit Nassif, the second axis is aldahab street and the commercial axis, which pours on the commercial buildings, office buildings and many popular restaurants. Hence the importance of the project site, which will serve as a link between these two streets

Renovated numerous times during its history, Gaumont-Alésia, a Parisian cinema housed in a structure that is over 80 years old, will now be revamped by firm Manuelle Gautrand Architecture. With a design that emphasizes filmography’s presence in modern culture, the Gaumont-Alésia is set to become an inviting cultural hub for the surrounding city, showcasing cinema’s influence on both the interior and exterior.

Both street facades composed of glass curtain walls shaded by pleated metal panels. These panels will be perforated by hundreds of LED “pixels which will create an image across the pleats. Both entrances to the building become animated walls, broadcasting film stills, movie trailers, and advertisements, all meant to entice passersby. The LEDS are spaced fewer and farther apart toward the edges of the building, creating a stippling effect around the border of the images. At the entrances these animated panels will peel upwards, creating a canopy under which patrons can walk.

4.0 Case Study

4.2 Kino – Rye , U.K

Architects: Jonathan Dunn Architects Location: Lion Street, Rye, East Sussex TN31, United Kingdom Area: 220.0 sqm Project Year : 2015 Photographs: Oliver Perrott The project consists of a collection of Victorian school buildings which were left empty for several years and quickly fell into disrepair. Fletcher in Rye purchased the site after the housing scheme had been overturned with the aim of preserving the site for future generations as well as promoting film and the arts in Rye. The site is in the heart of Rye’s Citadel, a highly protected conservation area with very awkward site access. The design intention was to re-use as much of the existing building as possible and remove the remodelled 1950’s elements and strategically using openings that had been formed previously.

5.0 Design Standard The “End Stage”

The 34/ Arena

Pros: Well suited to lecture, film or slide presentations.

Pros: Improves the hearing and visual contact between spectator and performer.

Cons: Not very conducive to close relationship between performer and spectator.

Cons: Film presentation is almost out of the question.

this form is well suited to lecture, film, or slide presentations. In addition, it may lend itself comfortably to rectangular areas which will fit many conventional new or renovated buildings.

This design approach is characterized by a 180 degree to 270 degree angle of inclusion and can improve aural and visual contact between spectators and performers. Conventional film presentation, in this format, is almost totally out of the question, but television monitors or projection screens located throughout the assembly space may work OK.

Wide Fan Arrangement Pros: Brings distant spectators closer to the performer. Cons: Limits space usage to primarily speech related activities. A wide fan arrangement with maximum limits of 130 degrees from a central focus or focal point will bring the distant spectators closer to the performer, thereby promoting a more intimate relationship. At this angle of inclusion, film or slide presentation is still possible, however, the performing area should be deep and the screen placed as far to the rear as is practical to minimize distortion of the projected images.

30

Arena Stage Pros: Offers 360 degree visuals, so you can bring more spectators closer to the performers. Cons: This limits the arena physically, it allows very little (or no) expansion. The last form we’ll take a look at here is the arena stage. This offers seating in a full 360 degree containment. Obviously, this auditorium seating layout brings even more spectators closer to the performer, but at the same time it creates certain restrictions. At any time during a presentation, a performer will be facing only a portion of the audience. Additionally, the performing arena is physically limited to the allocated space- allowing little to no expansion.

Bloch Building Project Description Double-glazed channel glass is used to create this iconic building at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The custom 16” wide low iron glass channels are tempered, sandblasted, and utilize Okapane thermal insulation to not only improve the thermal performance of the building, but also enhance the building’s aesthetics. During the day, the glass lls the interior of the building with natural light, while at night the interior lighting makes the insulated, sandblasted glass building glow like a lantern. “Owing to a solar texture on the outer surface of the channel glass and the sandblasted inner face of this outer wall, the exterior takes on an opalescent sheen in sunlight… As exterior conditions change, a glinting moire pattern emerges. While vertical joints composed of silicone tubes and sealants disappear from view, Holl designed the aluminum sills and headers for the planks as staggered horizontal lines: He didn’t want them to read as edges of the oor plates, but to rea rm the overall asymmetrical theme.” (“Architectural Record” – July 2007) Testimonials From the Architect: "Through the free movement threaded between the light-gathering lenses of the new addition are the elemental connections between ourselves and architecture." — Steven Holl, Steven Holl Architects
