Fremantle - Out & About Freo - Way to go!
Army Museum of Western Australia
Although only 20 mins from Perth by car or train, Fremantle is a destination in itself for all ages. The old seafaring town has played host to sailors from all over the world for well over 100 years and the whole area has reminders of days gone by. The sandstone buildings and small cottages give you a real sense of life in the 1800’s. The best way to explore the whole area is to jump on one of the FREE Cat buses at any one of the 27 stops listed on this page and get your bearings. You can then get ready to go exploring!
Come and visit our six interesting and educational galleries and view the extensive range of uniforms, weapons, medals, photos and memorabilia all telling the story of West Australian men and women who served in the many conflicts since the Boer War. Outside inspect a wide range of tanks, artillery pieces and various armoured vehicles. Located within the heritage listed Artillery Barracks precinct

Busselton & Margaret River - Out & About THE REGION The seaside towns of Busselton and Dunsborough are nestled along the wide sandy shores of Geographe Bay, protected from the prevailing winds. The calm beaches of the Bay are perfect for swimming, fishing, snorkelling and diving. Just on the western side of Cape Naturaliste, the beachscape changes completely, with Yallingup and Margaret River being world famous for their excellent surf breaks, sandy beaches and hidden coves.
There are swimming and diving platforms, interpretive plaques and for those less athletically inclined, you can board the jetty train to travel the 1.7km to the observatory! Busselton has a history museum but its main claim to fame is its timber jetty that is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere and stretches 1.8km. It has an underwater observatory that provides an opportunity to view the amazing marine life of Geographe Bay’s underwater garden at a depth of 8m!
LetsGoKids Perth 2013
Along the way to Busselton there is the newly opened “Xscape” which will be an exciting addition to the area, with a myraid of climbing, bouncing and jumping activities, and Countrylife Farm (p.43) is nearby for the “littlies” that provides a great interactive experience. Ngilgi Caves and the lighthouse are nearby to explore.

Play / Party Kadidjiny Park in Melville was only opened last year, but is already a favourite for many families. The creative play space features a squiggly slide, climbing net, sandy bush tracks, rocks and limestones. Heathcote Reserve in Applecross is home to a giant wooden pirate ship. The playground also features spectacular views across the Swan River, although younger visitors will probably be more impressed with the swings and ice cream kiosk. Rotary Park in Wanneroo is a state-of-the-art play scape featuring innovative, universal access play equipment suitable for children of all ages and abilities, including a liberty swing for children in wheelchairs. There’s plenty to explore, including an elevated tree walk with viewing and play platforms, swings, slides, a cubby house, space net and climbing frames. There’s also barbeque facilities and grassed areas for sporting activities and picnics.

Hyde Park Nth Perth English style park with lake, treed walkways and water play features. It is also part of the “Wetlands Trail”
Perth and WA have some of the most pristine, white sand ocean strips anywhere in the world, (let alone Australia). The entire city of Perth is within about 30 mins of the coast no matter where you are. This means a swim, a surf, a snorkel, a walk are all possible any time of day (even after school). But don’t forget to slip, slop, slap and whack on some shades though!
Point Walter, Bicton River swimming beach, shady trees, playground, cafe, and an awesome sand spit to walk along and explore. Esplanade Park, Fremantle is heaps of fun! The open playground is shaded by giant pine trees and surrounded by a wonderful picnic area. It is adjacent to the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour (p.xx), and right in the middle of the Fremantle entertainment area. The space net is awesome!!! Yanchep National Park has indigenous gardens, koalas, wallabies, caves, cafe, organized activities. Check: www.naturebase.net/yanchep LetsGoKids Perth 2013
