The City Circle Tram City Circle Tram route service provides a FREE City Circle Tram stops and convenient way to get around central Melbourne and links with other train, tram and bus services in and around the city. It runs seven days a week between 10am and 6pm (except Christmas Day and Good Friday) and between 10am and 9pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during daylight saving time.

Onboard you can view the city in comfort while listening to an informative commentary about the city’s attractions. You can hop on and hop off at any of the 13 stops. The shuttle runs daily, every 30 mins from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

3. Take a tram ride down St. Kilda Rd and visit The Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne’s memorial to the men and women who have served during times of war. The Floral Clock is nearby, facing the National Gallery on St Kilda Rd.

16. The Queen Victoria Market is open Tues & Thurs 6am-2pm, Fri 6am-5pm, Sat 6am-3pm, Sun 9am- 4pm and offers an interesting morning out.

17. Melbourne does have beaches and tram No. 109 will take you to Port Melbourne or No. 79 to St. Kilda where you can spend a morning riding or rollerblading.

11. Head to Southbank and watch the flames go off outside Crown Casino or play in the dancing water fountains on a hot day.

23. Take in CERES (centre for Community Research in Environmental Strategies) which offers an insight into a sustainable living.

- Waterfront City Waterfront City in the Docklands precinct of Melbourne (behind Etihad Stadium) has an enormous amount of appeal as a family destination.

For that “American” shopping experience, check out Costco at Harbourtown... It will amaze you!

It has great eateries (p.48), serious shopping and a whole precinct for kids that includes a play centre, kids clothing and toy stores, gaming centre, indoor mini golf and now the ice skating centre – The Icehouse (p. 11). Learn to skate or play ice hockey - they even have free lessons for beginners!

Also located in the precinct is Wonderland Fun Park (see below), a smaller version of Luna Park for smaller people! The littlies will love it! There are also lots of take away places, sweets and ice cream shops.

It is now a serious whole day family excursion.

The City Circle Tram now runs right to Waterfront City, allowing cheap, easy access from the city. The car parks are FREE for the first hour also!

- Williamstown Jump on a ferry or take a train, you’ll find a picturesque, seaside municipality with many activities and indulgences for visitors and locals alike.

• Visit Williamstown for maritime history, including the Timeball Tower, The HMAS Castlemaine, and the Enterprize sailing ship.

• Explore Williamstown on foot or hire a bike and for the really adventurous. Why not take a ghost tour!

• Take a Seaplane flight.

• Challenge yourself at Scienceworks in Spotswood, and see what makes things tick!

• See Newport Lakes, located off Mason Street in a “recycled landscape” – 33ha of bushland park created on the site of the former quarry.

• Visit the Williamstown Botanic Gardens, established in the 1850s.

• Altona is the home of the popular Tuesday market which lines Pier Street to the beach.

Impressive Victorian buildings line the wide streets of Bendigo, as a reminder of the rich history built from one of the world’s most exciting gold rushes. More gold was found here between 1850 & 1900 than anywhere else in the world.

There was very little gold on the surface, most of it was far underground in rich quartz reefs stretching out over 3,600 hectares around the city. Around nine billion dollars worth of gold was found in Bendigo, making it the second highest producing gold field in Australia after Kalgoorlie, and seventh richest field in the world.

The true highlight of Bendigo is that there is heaps of things to do!

The major attractions are diverse and exciting.

There’s the authentic deep-shaft mine experience at Central Deborah, where you travel underground in a miners’ cage into a real mine! The famous Vintage.

Talking Tram Tour that weaves through the streets of Bendigo tells wonderful stories of days gone by.

The original 1860’s Chinese Joss House and the Golden Dragon Museum display the Chinese heritage of the area and house the world’s oldest Imperial Dragon, Loong. The Bendigo Art Gallery also has a strong reputation (p.42). It is one of Australia’s largest and oldest regional art galleries.

The collections of Bendigo Art Gallery include Australian Art from the 1850s to the present day, a special collection of art from the Bendigo goldfields and 19th century European paintings, sculptures and decorative arts.

Bendigo Pottery is justly famous, with its display and sales complex set around vast old beehive kilns.

The Bendigo Pottery was created by George Duncan Guthrie, a Scot who was an apprentice potter by the age of 12. By 1888 11 kilns were in operation and the site employed 130 people.

Today domestic pottery is made in the historic kilns. The site offers a total tourist experience, an Interpretive Museum, a sales gallery and café.
