Out & About
- Sydney CBD
Sydney is a destination you can enjoy all-year-round. There’s always something going on and it doesn’t get too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter with rainfall spread throughout the year.
You can’t beat the serenity and harbour views from the Botanical Gardens. A great free way to spend a few hours in Sydney. Walk from the Opera House to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair for one of the best vantage points in Sydney. Take a picnic lunch. For a bird’s-eye view of Sydney, head to the summit of Sydney Tower Eye. From here, enjoy views stretching across the city to the Pacific Ocean and the Blue Mountains to the west.
Sydney CBD
The CBD and Harbour were the original area settled when Arthur Phillip established an English penal colony in the “Rocks” in 1788. The rough countryside resulted in a confusing collection of streets and laneways, rather than a neat grid of roads and avenues. Today the area is a tourist mecca with visitors rubbing shoulders with Sydneysiders commuting to work via the extensive ferry system. Nothing beats seeing the harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House with your own eyes. Take a stroll along Circular Quay and soak up the atmosphere, or catch a ferry to Cockatoo Island or Watsons Bay and enjoy the beauty of the harbour and its surroundings.
Worth A Look In the heart of Sydney’s CBD is the Queen Victoria Building, another must-see attraction. Dating back to the 1890s, this grand and beautiful building is one of the city’s premier shopping destinations.

LetsGoKids Sydney 2016
Darling Harbour Only a 10-minute stroll from the Sydney Town Hall, Darling Harbour is the perfect place to entertain the whole family, enjoy a delicious harbourside meal or experience Sydney’s energetic night-life.
Out & About
EXHIBITION ON NOW
One of Sydney’s largest dining, shopping and entertainment precincts, it has a full calendar of outdoor events as well as one of the city’s most restful spots, the Chinese Gardens of Friendship. Darling Harbour was reopened by Queen Elizabeth 11 as a tourist area in 1988 after it was transformed from disused railway yards and port facilities into the dazzling array of restaurants, bars, shopping precincts and tourist attractions that it houses today.
Worth a Look
At Darling Quarter Kid’s Playground, there’s a gigantic circular swing, a tangle of wobbly balance ropes, giant steel slides and a super-long flying fox. The centrepiece is the Octanet: cotton-wool kids need not venture up the ten-metre-tall contraption – even to us, this thing is high! The Powerhouse Museum is nearby and it has constantly changing (family themed) exhibitions. From November 21st to May 1st, they have Art of the Brick.- DC Comics exhibition on display, it features more than 120 artworks based on comic book characters including Batman, the Joker, Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern. LetsGoKids Sydney 2016
The precinct has a huge number of formal and casual eateries on both sides of the water, but Pontoon Bar cater for kids and has a relaxed vibe that makes families feel comfortable. Hard Rock cafe on the other side of the harbour in Harbourside shopping centre, welcome kids too!
Darling Harbour
A mecca for city workers and visitors alike, it has something for all ages. It is home to the National Maritime Museum (Inside front cover), The Sydney Aquarium (Voucher p.13), Madame Tussaud’ss (Voucher p.13), Wild Life Sydney Zoo (Voucher p.13), a range of cruise companies, IMAX Theatre and children’s Theatre Company Monkey Baa, as well as the great Tumbalong Park and Playground.
The maritime museum regularly undertakes voyages around the Australian coast on the HMB Endeavour giving Australians and school children all over the country direct access to this important vessel. The Endeavour has visited many remote and regional ports across Australia, even completing a 13-month circumnavigation of the country in 2012.

Darling Harbour Out & About -- Harbourside Located right on the water’s edge of Sydney’s stunning Darling Harbour, getting to Harbourside couldn’t be easier, or more varied.
#
You can get here by water from Circular Quay onboard Sydney Ferries, Captain Cook’s Harbour Express, on the tracks with the light rail tram or via a leisurely walk over Pyrmont Bridge. Harbourside is a diverse shopping centre offering over 25 mouthwatering restaurants, cafés and bars, over 40 fashion and accessories stores and plenty of entertainment, so it’s easy to see why Harbourside is a destination in itself.
Darling Harbour
# 12
Harbourside is home to the Hard Rock Café Sydney. Feast on their legendary burgers, smoked barbeque ribs and divine desserts. Olivo, Hurricane’s Grill, Thai Foon, Crinti’s, Zaaffran and Dragon Boat offer unique and delicious cuisine from around the world. Burn off some energy at Harbourside Kingpin Bowling, a bowling experience like no other. If you need a little more excitement M9 Laser Skirmish is an action packed indoor laser adventure game without the pain of paintball. If you have always wanted to be a pilot then Flight Experience gives you the unique opportunity of flying a commercial grade jet simulator based on the Boeing 737. Harbourside is open 10am to 9pm daily.
Worth A Look Have your senses overwhelmed at 9D Action Cinemas with the stimulating and exciting 3D movies with surround sound, coupled with ‘active motion’ luxury seats and dramatic effects such as rain, fog, lightning, wind, snow, touch, feel and more. THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL LOVE IT!

Inner West The Inner West of Sydney started life as a series of working class suburbs inhabited by blue collar workers involved in the ship building industry around Balmain and in agriculture in places like Enfield and Erskineville.
Photo Courtesy of City of Sydney
Each suburb has its own character and charm, with ethnic groups prominent in many.
Balmain has a very interesting history. One of Sydney’s oldest suburbs, it started life as a ship building town where many of Sydney’s iconic green and yellow ferries were built. It has extensive parklands including Hogan Park connecting to Bicentennial Park, Hinsby Park and Cohen Park. Bicentennial Park is a diverse natural park combining the Badu Mangroves wetlands, with 40 hectares of beautiful parklands featuring gentle hills, lakeside meadows and soothing green vistas. This park features playgrounds, picnic shelters, barbecues, toilets and several car parks.
Out & About
In 1901 Haberfield was set up as a ‘garden suburb’ as a tonic to Sydney’s then rampant bubonic plague. These days it’s foodie heaven. Walk down Ramsay St on a Saturday morning and you’ll feel you’ve gone through a time warp and entered 1950’s Italy. There are traditional Italian bakeries, cake shops, modern cafe, pizzerias, a butcher and supermarkets that have endless supplies of all things Italian. For Italian culture as well - Leichhardt - Si Si!! Norton St is full of Italian cafes and restaurants and is always lively. There’s also The Forum which is meant to resemble an Italian square, but more often acts as a navigational tool for planes flying to Sydney airport!!
Did You Know
Canada Bay takes its name from prisoners of the 1837 rebellion in the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The rebellion was quashed by British troops and many of those imprisoned were subsequently sentenced to transportation to Australia.
Rozelle is a leafy village on the Balmain Peninsula with a quirky mix of art galleries, flea markets and some of Sydney’s best cafes and pubs with homes tucked away in narrow back streets typical of the 1800s and early 1900s.

Did You Know
Did you know that in one year, the Manly ferry travels a distance equivalent to travelling twice around the world? Manly was designed after the city of Brighton in England by Henry Gilbert Smith. The streets mimic the lanes of Brighton, which lead from the city centre to the sea. It is famous for its promenade of pine trees, which were first planted by the early English settlers. The pines trees could then be cut down and used to build ships and masts if settlers decided they wanted to sail home. Manly’s North Head nature walk passes by natural bush, aboriginal landmarks, and wildlife. The entire city of Sydney can be seen at the top of the trail! Originally, Manly had a pier/boardwalk that ran from the Manly Wharf across the Manly cove, which held the first Ferris wheel in Australia. Due to a storm in 1974, the pier/boardwalk was completely destroyed.

The Blue Mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range, which stretches from the Gippsland region of Victoria in the south to the tropical rainforests of north Queensland. The foothills are only 60 kms from the Sydney CBD. They are clad in vast forests of eucalypts (commonly called gum trees), which in the hot sun discharge a fine mist of eucalyptus oil from their leaves. The mist refracts light, which makes the haze look blue at a distance - hence the name.

Southern Suburbs Sutherland Shire has a great collection of beaches, 11 kms of them in fact with close access to four National Parks, including the Royal National Park - the oldest in Australia. Cronulla is at the centrepiece and is home to Sydney’s longest and southernmost beach with 6 km of sand and stunning surf. The area’s original Aboriginal name of Gunnamatta – “beach and sandhills” – aptly describes what has become a surfers’ haven.
Today it has an outdoor cafe scene that offers a great vantage point where you may be able to spot dolphins popping up in the adjoining waters. With a beach vibe and an outdoor lifestyle, Cronulla is a laid back area with plenty of things to do. There’s fishing off the coast, hiking one of the area’s picturesque trails, whale watching or just lazing on one of the uncrowded beaches.

Did You Know The European name Shellharbour refers to the large quantities of shells found in Aboriginal middens along the foreshore in the early to mid 19th Century. Due to the mining of shells in this period for the production of lime these vast middens no longer remain.

LetsGoKids Sydney 2016
Play/Party Kids of all ages love to play! Sydney has plenty of parks and gardens where the whole family can enjoy our temperate climate.

SYDNEY NATIONAL PARKS Royal National Park The second-oldest national park in the world, “The Royal” is home to over 100km of walking tracks through rainforest gullies, over dramatic windswept cliffs and down to pristine beaches. Georges River National Park A river habitat for native animals with picnic areas, walking tracks and great views.
SYDNEY PLAYGROUNDS Newington Armoury - Sydney Olympic Park The area has heritage train rides, a clue trail (a la the Amazing Race), music and arts workshops, and school holidays activities.

The city is blessed with a multitude of suburban parks and playgrounds, larger regional parks and even a series of National Parks located right on its doorstep. Here is a selection of our favourites:
Pirrama Park – Pyrmont – Once little eyeballs see this Pyrmont park’s giant sandpit, they won’t be leaving. Under a big yellow umbrella, it is like a mini fossil-excavation site. Nearby, a giant tangle net sits among slides and swings, and you’ll find plenty of those spinning-gravitational-rotators to get on. Plus there are cafés close by for parents, and food trucks often stop by on weekdays.
Holroyd Gardens – Holroyd - Large playground area and a purpose built “road” for the youngsters to start to learn the traffic signs and road rules on. Putney Park - Putney - It combines water activities with old-school play equipment. Kids will love splashing around the landscaped paddle pools, which are shaded, shallow and safe. A giant tube slide winds its way down the scrub-filled hillside, and over by the lakeside there’s a big climb net. There are barbecue facilities, picnic shelters and walking and cycle tracks, too. Steel Park - Marrickville - The Park includes an interesting series of waterplay features including a ‘source’ feature representing the water flowing from the mountains, a ‘rills’ section representing water flowing in a river across plains, and an ‘estuary’ feature which includes a collection of jets and sprays. The Waterplay Park was designed to encapsulate the total water cycle. It is fed into play features such as interactive fountains, sprinklers and misty spray elements before being treated onsite and recycled.

Play/Party Regional Parks Rouse Hill Regional Park - Rouse Hill A dedicated toddler play area, swings, cubby house, a maze, climbing nets and slides. There is a flying fox for the older kids and bike tracks for riding. Pimelea Picnic Grounds – Abbotsbury - Natural playground, flying foxes, climbing walls, water play areas, tyre swings, BBQ’s and plenty of space to move.
New playground opens in Parramatta Park!
Blaxland Riverside Park - Sydney Olympic Park This designer playground is a seriously cool outdoor adventure. Plan your attack from above after ascending the 12-metre-high tree house then race back down to scale rubber-mounded rock-climbing walls and tiptoe across a giant web. There are loads of swings, flying foxes and slides. Parents will also enjoy the lakeside vista. Photo Courtesy of PureLight Photography
Parramatta Park Trust has announced that the second stage of works in the Trust’s $8.7 million investment into ‘The Paddocks Precinct’ is now open for the community to enjoy.
Parramatta Park Trust Director Suellen Fitzgerald said: “It is great news that the next stage of the works at the playground has now been completed and I invite everyone to come out to the park and enjoy the significant improvements in amenities for the local community.”

Hunts Creek Reserve - Carlingford The Hunts Creek Reserve is a designated “Wildlife Sanctuary” located in north western Sydney between the suburbs of Carlingford and North Rocks. The bushwalk in the reserve is an easy one and can be enjoyed by the whole family. It has many shady spots, and being a wildlife sanctuary, you would also be able to spot many interesting birds including kookaburras and the colourful and fast-moving wrens. The best (and surprising) discovery on this walk is that you can also view a very beautiful waterfall along the journey!
The Trust is undertaking a major upgrade of this area as part of a $21.7 million capital works program across the Park. This includes new picnic shelters, barbecue facilities, public amenities, the restoration of the Queens Road Gatehouse, a pedestrian bridge over Domain Creek and pathways to enhance the visitor experience.

Play/Party Spread over three hectares, the new Domain Creek playground boasts bespoke play equipment and a host of hidden play elements such as sculptures and musical sensory games for children to discover and delight in – encouraging exploration and imagination.

“Nestled amongst native trees providing shade, the new playground offers a nature-focused play experience in the heart of urban Parramatta.”
The NEW Playground features:
An over sized , three-metre high ‘elephant‘ slide A water play area with a ‘rain wheel’ A huge net suspended above the ground, built- in trampolines A double flying fox, fully accessible for wheelchairs A teeter tunnel An elevated ‘A deck’ integrated into the tree-lined creek.
“This is an exciting time for users of Parramatta Park and I am pleased that these works will contribute to creating world-class facilities for Parramatta’s world heritage setting, serving Park users well into the future,” said Ms Fitzgerald.
LetsGoKids Sydney 2016
The major upgrade is nearing completion with the final stage of works to be completed in 2016. For more information visit: facebook.com/parrapark

Shirt #21 D.O.B: 01-02-1987 Height: 189cm Weight: 95kg Position: All-rounder Batting Style: Right-hand Bowling Style: Right-arm Fast Bat Used: Kookaburra Fav Shot: Back Foot Punch Grade Club: St George A destructive allrounder who can turn a game with the bat or ball, Moises Henriques will pull on the magenta for his fifth season with the Sixers in BBL|05. Captain and a standout performer in BBL|04, he scored 245 runs and collected five wickets with the ball. He’ll be hoping to impress again when the Sixers set foot on the SCG in the tournaments fifth season. The man known affectionately as ‘Moey’ by friends and fans has represented Australia in all three forms of the game, making his Test debut in February 2013. Moises nominates NBA player LeBron James as the person he’d like to be for a day, although his cricket heroes are the Waugh brothers, especially Steve, whose 150 on a ‘dodgy calf’ in England in 2001 remains his favourite memory.

Gurinder Sandhu
After winning the Steve Waugh Medal in his debut season in 2012-13, the ‘G-Man’ had a few big years with the Thunder, with his impressive performances in BBL04 leading to an international debut earlier in 2015.
A style icon who dresses well and is happy to show a touch of bling, Gurinder is of Indian heritage and speaks Punjabi and a little bit of Hindi. He still travels back to India every three or four years to visit family, and it was family that introduced him to the game, with his dad throwing balls to him in the back yard aged five! The tall fast bowler will again be one of the frontline pacemen for the Thunder in BBL05, but may try his hand at some spin bowling which served him well on the Australia A tour of India earlier this year.
