SS19 Pantone colours to incorporate into your home BY

CHARLOTTE

NICHOLE

Let’s make our home that little bit spring like shall we? As we edge closer to warmer, brighter days, we are all seeking brighter, more airy homes. Am I right? I tend to update textures and accents tones throughout my home during spring in a bid to make my home a little more inviting in the lighter days. Cushion covers and blankets are usually the first things to get a revamp when wanting to update the colours in my space. So what tones and colours should you incorporate into your home this spring? Here’s some of Spring 2019 most popular Pantone colours to embrace.

OPT FOR PASTELS Most of the colours that are featured in this post feature more subtle, kind, pastel like hues that are perfect for this Spring / Summer season. Whilst you may not want to completely re-decorate your home, you may want to incorporate these different tones of a colour to revamp your home in line to a new season. Many of the pastel colours featured are so easy to incorporate into current colour schemes including grey. Whilst Grey is still ever popular, the trend is now evolving to include other tones of colours too.

BUT DON’T BE SCARED TO GO DARK Many believe that dark colourings can make a space feel smaller, and you’d be right in thinking so. But adding a touch of dark, deeper tones into your home can actually do the opposite. Using deep colours of the below can really make a large room feel cosy, and small spaces feel expansive. I have picked out some gorgeous dark hues that you should consider this Spring, all of which will make great feature walls or even a overall colour to spaces within your home.

HOW TO

BRING THE OUTDOORS IN TO YOUR HOME BY CHARLOTTE NICHOLE

1

GO FAUX

If you are anything like me, you’ll be known to kill plants at unknowing speed. Faux flowers and greenery is certainly the way to go, especially when wanting to bring some colour, nature and of course the outdoors, into your home. With many high street retailers, including Ikea and The Range offering a fantastic range of faux flowers and greenery, it’s never been easier, or cheaper to bring the outdoors in, artificially!

2

ENSURE LIGHT IS COMING IN 3

It’s not as easy as building or installing some new windows ( although this certainly is an option if you are looking to remodel ), but there are some small tricks to be had in flooding some more light into your space. Consider swapping your curtains for blinds, as curtains can block light entering the room during the day. Using blinds can open the space around the window and in turn flood more light into your room. Use mirrors across your home to reflect the natural light you do have. Placing mirrors opposite natural

Using more naturally pleasing materials throughout your home can certainly bring the outdoors into your space. What’s more, natural materials can make your home feel more organic and more relaxing. On trend this season are wicker chairs, natural weave baskets and beech wood. Using these materials can really help your home feel apart of the outdoors, as well as create a on trend, relaxing environment.

windows to do so. Don’t block out light you do have, with furniture. It’s really easy to block light you do have, with clunky furniture. Try and avoid placing large pieces of furniture in the way of natural light. Keeping windows clear of clutter and furniture will make the outdoors feel more of part in your home.

When wanting your home to feel more natural, relaxing and part of the outdoors, play with more naturally pleasing tones and colours. Using soft greens, blues and creams to gain a more outdoorsy, airy feel to your home. If you really want a home that is in sync with every room, be sure to paint each with contrasting but palette complimenting tones and colours.

YOUR KITCHEN EVEN WITH A SMALL BUDGET BY

CHARLOTTE

NICHOLE

The kitchen is pretty much the hub of the home. Especially since open plan living, and family rooms now gravitate towards the cooking area. With that in mind, we are all conscious of how up to date and modern our current kitchen is. They can transform the feel of your whole property, and can have a huge impact on the value and sale ability later down the line.

Tasselled Cotton Rug H&M Home------ £69.99

Whether you are wanting to upgrade your current home for yourself, or for sale ready, there are plenty of things that can be done to your kitchen, whatever the budget. Replace

It’s believed the only option, when it comes to upgradingReplace your kitchen, is to rip it all out and start again. And whilst that is an option, don’t think it has to come at a cost. Buying pre-loved or even ex display kitchens can save you a hugeee buck and look just as good as brand new! Companies such as Used Kitchen Exchange can help you find used and ex-display kitchens whatever your budget. It’s never been easier and cheaper to buy yourself a new kitchen!

Nya Armchair,

Switch the small things

You don’t have to replace your whole kitchen tothe upgrade orthings spruce it Switch small up. Consider changing the smaller and potentially cheaper aspects to give it a new look and feel. Things like cupboard handles, light switches and soft furnishings can have a huge effect on the current look and feel of your kitchen. Swapping a roller blind to a shutter blind, or swapping a pendant light to spotlights can insert modern into your currently dated kitchen. If you fancy more of a switch without replacing, consider upgrading your worktops, splash backs or even your cupboard doors. Most kitchens have fantastic cupboards, but thanks to the outdated doors, they usually hit the tip. Replacing your doors for more modern ones can give you the illusion of a new kitchen, at half the price. Paint

Paint

And then there is painting. And I don’t just mean your walls. There are sooo many aspects of your kitchen you can actually paint, including tiles, cupboards and of course the walls. Adding a splash of colour to your current cupboards can transform what feels like an outdated and tatty kitchen, to a modern, clean cut one. I would highly advise bringing in a professional, but at the cost of paint and time vs a whole new kitchen, you will be astonished with the amount of money you can save.

JUNE

Through the letterbox of

@GREYHOUSE ONTHEGROVE Welcome to the FIRST 'Through the Letterbox of....' feature. Every month we will bring you someone with a passion for interior in the hope to inspire and find new muse.

Our first ever feature is that of @GreyhouseontheGrove. With a stunning, simplistic yet modern take on interior, we couldn't think of anywhere better to start!

Alex, 27 year old beauty therapist lives with her other half Stee and their gorgeous fur baby - George. They own a 3 bedroom Victoria Terrace in Lancaster and are busy making it their own. Alex only recently started her Instagram account and is thriving at showing corners of here home! I've always dreamed of having my own home to decorate. When I was 11, I helped my parents pick their new kitchen and since I have been hooked on interior. I set up my Instagram at the beginning of this year - I wish I had done it sooner as I probably bored everyone on my personal account to death with the home posts! Alex really has a fantastic eye for modern simplicity and the contrast of white, grey and black is hugely on trend. Using furniture that oozes space like the glass desk and wire baskets certainly gives the illusion of space and light. The vision from my home has certainly come from Pinterest. I'm not one for clutter and much prefer spaces that are clean, clutter free and bright. I'm not a massive lover of colour neither. People have taken the mick out of me because my love for grey, but I have been introducing black into my colour palette lately - groundbreaking I know!

Our current project is our bedroom. We've been in our house for 3 years now, and decided it was time for a change. We really struggle with storage as it's a loft conversion, so we are looking at fitting some under eave cupboards to optimism it as much as possible. We just purchased our new bedroom furniture. So pleased with it!

Alex, let's chat trends, what your favorite for Summer'19? I wouldn't say I love a trend per say, but I love finding and admiring outdoor spaces this time of year. I am often scrolling Instagram to see everyone's outdoor spaces and ideas. Since the heatwave last year, I think many of us have been spurred to make the most of our outdoor space. We don't have the biggest garden, it's really a yard, or as I like to call it, a 'yarden' ha! Whatever the size, we love it as it gives us a extra room and space to make our own and relax in! So, what's Alex's biggest interior regret so far? I’d say the colour of our lounge and kitchen. I’ve disliked it ever since it was painted but felt like it was too late to change it as the decorator had already re-painted it. It looks more of a dull lilac than grey. I don’t tend to post too many photos of these rooms as it annoys me all the time!

Alex, what advice would you give to someone working on their home? ' Really don't rush into buying furniture - especially if you;re only buying because it's cheap. Take your time and find pieces that will work with your space and will be a valuable piece now and in the future.

Alex has already started to create a stunningly beautiful home. The tones of Grey, White and Black offer a space to truly unwind and relax from daily life. We adore her style and recommend anyone to follow on Instagram to grab as much inspo as possible.

THE QUICK 3 -@GREYHOUSEONTHEGROVE
