MUST

HAVE

PIECES CREATE

TO AN

INVITING

We all understand the importance of first impressions, especially when it comes to your home. And for most that first interior impression is that of your hallway. Whether you have a large, open entryway or new build, narrow corridor, there is so

HALLWAY

Because first impressions are everything

much to be done in your hallway to create the inviting, warming space your home craves. But what makes the greatest impact when entering a home? We have the guide you need to follow to create a fantastic entrance space and ensure it’s full of style.

Lighting The most important feature of any space – lighting! Yes, installing the correct lighting into your hallway can ensure a cosy, warming entrance day and night.

If you can, have

ceiling lighting as well as a table lamp. The variant of lighting can create a soft, warm mood for your hallway, making it a cosy entrance in an evening.

Mirror A mirrors real purpose is to bounce light and give the impression of more space. So, adding a mirror into your hallway is especially important if you unfortunately have a small, narrow one. Place yours opposite natural lighting or your stair way to offer more light and space.

Runner A runner in your hallway is a great way to add extra warmth and texture, so is well worth a consideration, especially if your entrance way has hard flooring.

Opt for a

hardwearing one that will last with the constant flow of feet.

Side Table Having a perfectly sized side table in your entrance space creates the perfect spot to add a touch of styling and personality as your guests enter. Even If you’re low on floor space, a narrow side board has just the same impact. If wall space is what you’re after, consider a radiator cover to conceal yours and offer you a space to style.

Candle Every room in your home should have a candle, including your hallway. The ambiance it creates on a dark evening is one thing, but the scent is the perfect punch for any new guest. Choose your scent wisely, it undoubtedly will become your signature home scent.

Artwork Artwork should be present in any space, including your hallway. Choose pieces that reflect your wider home and personality. Gallery walls make a great hallway piece, as a gateway into your family home and a beautiful focal point on large areas like a stairway.

Floral Display Finally, a floral display is the last piece in the hallway puzzle. Whether you embrace real, fresh cut flowers, or showcase a faux arrangement, a floral display is a pretty piece for a first impression.

LOVE ABIT OF DRAMA Gorgeous dramatic interior ideas to adopt this Autumn / Winter

Here at Letterbox, we love drama.

Especially when it comes in the way of dramatic interior architecture, styling and colour palettes. Autumn and Winter make the perfect seasons to adopt dramatics in your home, so we decided to gather some easy, brave and bold dramatic interior ideas that any home can embrace. Will you be brave this autumn? Will your home switch to the dark side?

Deep colouring Drama starts with the deep, dark colouring like plum, green, navy, charcoal or even black. Despite what people believe, dark colouring can work in both bright and rather dim lit rooms, small or large spaces. If painting the entire room a deep, dark colour is too much for your home, consider an accent wall, colour blocking or the half-painted design.

Rich Fabrics Daring interiors always embrace rich fabrics like velvet, suede and leather. Reupholster furniture to have a permanent edge, or use cushions, throws and curtains for an easily interchangeable look. Velvet is very much present on the high street, so now is a great time to inject a rich finish in your dramatic space.

Delicate styling With bold, dark colouring comes delicate, often soft styling. Using equally bold styling can deflect from the bold colour palette, so earmark neutral colours like white, black and grey

Moody Lighting We say it time and time again – lighting is vital in any space, any home. Poor lighting can impact a well styled space endlessly, so you need to nail it. When it comes to dramatic interiors, moody lighting pairs perfectly. Use dimmer switches to offer a variant of light, and incorporate table and floor lamps for warm lighting.

Vintage Esque Dramatic interiors always need a little vintage style. Hunt your local antique stores for one off, unique pieces to add to your moody space. We love clashing pattern and era within dark, dramatic spaces to add interest and character.

Dramatic interiors have a place in any home, any time of the year. But with winter appearing, now is a fantastic time to adopt and inject dark colours into your home palette. Â Will you be taking your space to the dark side?

WHAT PANELING SHOULD YOU USE? THE LETTERBOX GUIDE Hot on the lips of all interior lovers is paneling. For a little over a year the trend has peaked and has no sign of slowing down. Ever being brought into many homes, panelling showcases how a simple DIY can transform the look, feel and character of a space. But with so many different designs of panelling to use, what is the best option for you, your home and your style. Here’s our guide to panelling styles and where’s best to use them.

Square arrangement It’s one of the most popular designs of panelling when you search Instagram or Pinterest. It’s easy to create and can work in all living spaces including dining, living and bedroom. Plus, it can don any colour too, including the dark and bright shades. We think square panelling works best on those square walls. Long expansive walls would look much better with a different design.

Board and Batten Very similar in terms of creation, board and batten paneling is quick and easy. Once again, board and batten can work well in most living spaces including dining, living and bedroom. They can also work in your bathrooms too with a classic, understated effect. Showcase this style on those long, large walls. You can even make your ceilings feel higher by only taking your panelling ¾ up your wall, and in a contrasting colour to the other, and top part of your feature wall.

Shiplap A rather understated design is the shiplap design. Hang vertically or horizontally, shiplap is a versatile design that can work in any room. Ship lap does carry a certain styling though, so be weary if wanting a real luxe mood and style, as this might not be the best option. Shiplap works best in small doses like as a feature on a small wall. Painted in the same colour as the rest of a room eases the shiplap into the space whilst adding a subtle feature.

Tongue and Groove Very similar to shiplap, but different, we promise. Tongue and groove is more ridged than that of shiplap and is a classic look that could be found in a quaint cottage. Once again, this style suits any space including living and wet spaces. We believe tongue and groove looks best carried halfway up a wall and painted in a contrasting colour.

Geometric A very modern take on this ever-growing trend, the geometric paneling design is a very creative style. If your home is modern, but lacking character, geometric paneling is for you. We think this style works best in bedroom spaces and living rooms. Once again, painted in the same colour as other walls, it adds extra interest to a feature wall.

Classic Molding Lastly, the classic of all paneling. This style is pretty dynamic and can come in lots of different variations. But this paneling is typically found in period properties. Roll forward to 2020, and any home can sport the gorgeous classic molding paneling in any living space. We love classic molding style paneling in hallways for an air of opulence and grandeur. Paneling is ever popular and rightly so. With so many types and styles, there is a type of paneling suitable for any home, space and style. We strongly recommend researching each style to find what will work best with your home and styling.

WHAT MAKES THE PERFECT SPACE FOR BI-FOLD DOORS? The popularity of bi-fold doors have certainly sky rocketed in recent years. Creating a wall of glass, Bi-fold doors are the perfect design element for properties seeking lots of natural light and an expansive opening into outdoor space. But what is the perfect space for bi-fold doors? Knowing where to install bi-fold doors is vital if wanting to successfully install and implement this beautiful design aspect successfully into your home.

A LARGE SPACE

Bi-fold doors lend themselves to large, expansive spaces, including the room they are within, and the space they lead to. That’s why so often, bi-fold doors expand the entire length of a property to flood internal spaces with light and impact. OPEN PLAN LIVING

Is the ideal choice for bi-fold doors, partly due to the flexibility of both open plan living and bi-fold doors. Open plan living is a modern way to live, and so is a space that can incorporate and flow in and out of house and garden. Bi-fold doors do just that and make a perfect addition to an open plan living home. GLASS ROOMS

We say glass rooms because purpose built glass extensions with a large opening is a perfect spot for bi-fold doors. Bi-fold doors can help extensions feel part of the original home, and part of a garden space too
