Anyone who has walked along Grand Avenue will recognize the busy streets filled with the mix of locals, business workers and visitors walking to meet friends, shop or look for the best restaurant to grab lunch. Although historic Grand Avenue has seen many changes in recent years with the development of modern buildings and several new restaurants, we still find ourselves enjoying the well maintained historic buildings that keep the charm on the street. MEET A SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENT  ALEX TZANG

Alex and his family immigrated from Hong Kong in 2000. It was years after immigrating before he could call a place home and in 2011 he purchased his first home on Tipperary Avenue in Westborough. As a young boy, Alex dreamed of being an architect. This came from the influence of his uncle who is a successful architect and developer in multiple metropolitans. He decided to pursue his dreams and earned his bachelors and masters from University of Michigan Ann Arbor. He began his career in Portola Valley where he built high end custom homes, commercial, churches, hotels, hospitals, and eventually became a director at a top construction management company for public schools. Alex's career was taking off, but he made a challenging decision to go into business for himself during the economy downturn, discovering his niche service of lean, efficient and quality residential addition architecture. Alex considered getting his MBA for real estate development but overtime his work experience gave him the valuable knowledge for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU), also called secondary units, in-law units, or cottages; a property addition not many South San Francisco or Peninsula residents are familiar with. To date, Alex’s architecture business is doing very well. In addition, he is working on his community commitments and would like to give back to the South San Francisco residents by educating them on Accessory Dwelling Units and how it will benefit their properties. Starting in 2018, Alex and Wilson Leung Real Estate Associates will work together to provide free ADU educational evening classes. "South San Francisco has been my home for 7 years now.
