BULK DROP OFF BULK DROP OFF

Below is a recap on how our Spring Bulk Trash Drop Off went last month. We saw residents get creative with their drop offs. Shoutout to those who improvised by using their longboard skateboards (McChord) to get a sectional couch to the site, while others used the trunk of their Lincoln sedan to hold a love seat (East) Also, who knew minivans could hold so much cargo?

We appreciate everyone who took advantage of this opportunity to purge, clean up, and dispose of the no longer needed items laying around. We look forward to hosting another drop off this fall in October

300 Registrations were available:

174 Residents showed up

50 No-showed

76 Open registrations left that went unclaimed

Did you know that Liberty Military Housing is charged $8.56 per overfilled resident trash or recycle tote from Lemay? Starting June 1st, residents will be billed for these charges if their totes are not in compliance at every scheduled pick up. Please make sure the lids close entirely on pick up day and do not overfill to avoid these charges. Contact your district office for more details.

Did you know that the Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) Michael Grinston used to live in Quarters here on JBLM? That's right! Right before he was appointed SMA, he was stationed here and was our Icorps Commanding Sergeant Major. I had the pleasure of moving him and his family in and out of Quarters from 2015-2017. I was reunited with SMA. Grinston on May 18th when he visited JBLM to host a quality of life brief at the Carey Theater on Lewis Main. What a remarkable experience to see our Service Members come full circle in their careers and in our housing world. These experiences make our job memorable, one of a kind, and purpose to serve!

PCS and Deployment Season

Spring is here! With spring comes PCS and deployment season But what do you do with all your stuff? There are two recycle centers on JBLM, located at 5290 Nevada Ave, Lewis Main and 516 South Gate Road, McChord The recycle centers take a variety of things. Have an old TV or microwave? The recycle centers accept everything with a cord if it isn’t an A/C unit or refrigerator. They also accept glass, cardboard, yard waste, metal, batteries, and toner or ink cartridges. Do you have something you’re not sure can be recycled? Call Corporate Waste Solutions at 253-982-3451 to get those specific answers.

Donate old furniture or clothing to one of the JBLM Thrift stores! There are ‘Buy Nothing’ groups on Facebook that allow you to donate your items Donating items allows you to reduce your waste and allows someone else to reuse your gently used furniture or clothing

Want to try to make a little extra spending money from some of your stuff before you move? Try posting them on Facebook Marketplace. This allows you to make some extra moving money and diverts your items from a landfill.

Do you have household hazardous waste such as old cleaning supplies or paint? Housing residents can take household hazardous waste to Environmental Services at bldg. 9769. Call 253-967-4786 for more information.

Illegal dumping of garbage or household hazardous waste is against regulation on JBLM If you have excess trash, take it to a nearby transfer station Pierce County residents can bring up to 400 pounds of garbage to a Pierce County transfer station for $33 29 Hawks Prairie in Lacey, south of JBLM is a nearby landfill a truck load of trash costs $18 00 for disposal

When you’re moving don’t forget to reduce the amount of waste you contribute to a landfill, allow a new family to reuse your gently used furniture and clothing, and recycle what you can.
