Featuring the work of this year’s top UK graduates in the applied arts
Yn rhoi llwyfan i waith graddedigion celfyddydau cymhwysol mwyaf blaenllaw y DU eleni
LGAC have travelled the UK to select the cream of this year’s graduates in the applied arts, searching for those who are pushing the boundaries of applied art whilst maintaining and developing the traditions of their craft. These are the makers and designers destined to lead and shape the next generation of applied artists.
Mae CCLlG wedi teithio ar hyd a lled y DU i ddethol y goreuon o blith graddedigion y celfyddydau cymhwysol eleni, gan chwilio am y rheini sy’n gwthio ffiniau celfyddyd gymhwysol tra’n cynnal a datblygu traddodiadau eu crefft. Y rhain yw’r gwneuthurwyr a’r dylunwyr sydd yn yr arfaeth i arwain a ffurfio’r genhedlaeth nesaf o artistiaid cymhwysol.
Katherine Morling 29.11.14 – 17.01.15 – solo exhibition Katherine Morling’s work can be described as three dimensional drawings, in the medium of ceramics. Each piece, on the surface, an inanimate object, has been given layers of emotion and embedded with stories, which are open for interpretation in the viewer’s mind. This solo exhibition of new work will be Katherine’s first major solo exhibition in Wales.
Pinnies from Heaven The humble apron and pinafore hold an seminal position in social and cultural history. Eleven members of the textiles collective MaP Group along with six invited makers have created contemporary responses to the traditional ‘pinny’ blending high quality craftsmanship with a large helping of nostalgia, creativity and humour.
John Selway – solo exhibition
Part of a golden generation at the Royal College of Art that included the fledgling Pop Art luminaries Derek Boshier, David Hockney, Alan Jones, R. B. Kitaj and Barry Bates – John Selway immediately set about pursuing his own artistic agenda. Always working from memory, he has often ventured far and wide in search of suitable subject matter. An influential tutor at both Newport and Carmarthen Art Colleges, whether flirting with abstraction, drawing inspiration from literature or responding to a landscape, his primary concern still remains as always, the human condition.
– arddangosfa unigol Gellir disgrifio gwaith Katherine Morling fel darluniau tri dimensiwn, trwy gyfrwng serameg. Mae pob darn sydd, ar yr wyneb, yn wrthrych difywyd, yn cynnwys haenau o emosiwn ac yn llawn straeon, sy’n agored i’w dehongli ym meddwl y gwyliwr. Yr arddangosfa unigol yma o waith newydd fydd arddangosfa unigol fawr gyntaf Katherine yng Nghymru.
31.01.15 – 14.03.15 Mae’r ffedog a’r binaffor gyffredin â statws arloesol mewn hanes cymdeithasol a diwylliannol. Mae un ar ddeg aelod o’r gydweithfa decstilau, MaP Group, ynghyd â chwe gwneuthurwr gwadd wedi creu ymatebion cyfoes i’r ffedog draddodiadol gan gyfuno crefftwaith o safon uchel â dogn sylweddol o hiraeth, creadigedd a hiwmor.
28.03.15 – 09.05.15 – arddangosfa unigol Ac yntau’n rhan o genhedlaeth euraid yn y Coleg Celf Brenhinol oedd yn cynnwys egin-sêr y cyfnod Pop Art, megis Derek Boshier, David Hockney, Alan Jones, R. B. Kitaj a Barry Bates, aeth John Selway ati ar unwaith i ddilyn ei agenda artistig ei hun. Ac yntau wastad yn gweithio o’r cof, mae wedi mentro ymhell ac agos i chwilio am destunau addas. Yn diwtor dylanwadol yng Ngholegau Celf Caerfyrddin a Chasnewydd, boed yn chwarae â chelf haniaethol, yn cymryd ysbrydoliaeth o lenyddiaeth neu’n ymateb i dirwedd, ei destun pennaf, fel erioed, yw cyflwr y bod dynol. Mae John yn aelod o Grŵp 56.
