Making space
Associate Artist Programme -‐ September 2012-‐ April 2014 General information Building on the The Points work in supporting artists, The Point is seeking applications for its Associate Artist Scheme as part of its Making Space programme. The scheme aims to support the creative practice and strategic development of 4 artists/companies working in a performance context. This can include theatre, live art, cabaret, dance, new writing, aerial work, street theatre and site specific/outdoor. The focus will be on developing new artistic work, creating strategies around building audiences as well as establishing core organisational skills. Associates artist will receive: • One-‐to-‐one mentoring from The Point’s director and creative producer • An administrative base at The Point –dedicated office space, shared telephone line, wifi, etc • Business/organisational advice • Access to space in kind in any one of The Point’s 3 rehearsal spaces • Opportunity to present work-‐in-‐progress and receive feedback • Networking opportunities • Seed money up to £500 on submission of a proposal • Seminar series -‐ marketing, tour booking, pitching, fundraising etc • Technical advice and support • Discounted tickets for performances and Space for Ideas In return The Point will ask artists to: • Take part in Scratch nights at The Point • Conduct open rehearsals • Work with our audience development officer to create a dialogue with audiences exploring your work. • Act as ambassadors of The Point • Disseminate their practice through online dialogue, workshops and via The Point’s national symposium due to take place in Spring 2014. How to apply Criteria for application Artists should: • Have presented at least one work in any performance genre in a public context in the last year • Be willing to engage critically with other associate artists on the scheme and the wider work force of The Point • Be able to demonstrate a clear rationale for being based at and working closely with The Point and in the wider south east region. • Provide a professional reference for their artistic work
