COURT SQ NABE NIGHT

Get an early start to catch all of the fabulous openings! The Falchi Building, behind La Guardia College, would be a great place to start your art crawl. Only 2 blocks from the 7 train’s 33rd St station, or a 10 min walk from Court Sq, there are 3 large group shows of exciting work, as well as checking out the new “Chelsea Market” of LIC! On your way back to Court Sq, educate your wine pallet see what LICArtists have done to the storage spaces, then educate your wine palate as you take in the multi-media event at SquareWine & Spirits. At the Citigroup Building, LICArtist members are at it again, with works filling the hallway showcases. Cross 23rd St to the historic block of 45th Ave, where InSite Design Studio hosts a colorful, powerful photography show not to be missed! Take a left down 44th Rd to the newly relocated Local Project and their special exhibition of Queens artists. Back up on 23rd St, you can’t miss the huge paintings at The Big Secret Gallery behind the loading dock of the LIC Art Center, and ZOMBIES at The Little Secret Gallery [entrance on 23rd]. From there, you can grab a drink and view more art down towards the river at the Z Hotel, or sit with a beer and watch the best of the Queens World Film Festival in The Local. Check out the art talks at Reis Studios and Jeffrey Leder Gallery.

THROUGH OUR EYES

Vince Johnson, one of the greatest harmonica players working today, will take us on a blues journey at the opening party of the festival. Multimedia Rap Performance A multimedia rap performance that utilizes projected visuals, controlled by the volume of the performer’s voice, to tell a story about how hip hop (specifically rap) can empower individuals.

present excerpts from their works ab initio (2012) and dyad (2013). These primarily contemporary dance pieces utilize projection, live sound and paper installation, creating a unique world for performers and audience to live in. May 14-18 // 9am-6pm Reception May 15 // 5-7pm Local Project is happy to present 8 different installations by artists living in NYC. All of the artists showing are presenting site-specific projects around the idea of collaboration in different settings, such as a public vitrine. From April 17 through June 17th, these collaborations will evolve and flux according to the artist interactions, coexisting in a 10’ x4’ glass vitrine. Some of these vitrines will incorporate performance, working hours, talks, walks, and inviting the public from all 5 boroughs to participate, add, observe, criticize, document, interact.
