III Corps Diplomatique Halory Goerger
Corps Diplomatique is the theatrical manifestation of something that should have only remained a thought experiment – i.e., what would happen if we let a theatrical troupe float endlessly in a space station for tens of thousands of years, whose only mission was to rehearse and perform a show ad infinitum ?

This carte blanche will reveal the 1,001 other ways we can move from East to West. And back.

Touching and deeply human, Yann Tiersen has become a household name thanks to his immediately identifiable sound within the musical landscape – one he has discreetly inhabited for the past twenty years. III Christophe For the past fifty years, Christophe’s voice has haunted radio waves with his incredibly unique timbre. An aesthete in a class all his own, he has never stopped reinventing himself, and has become the spiritual godfather for artists like Sébastien Tellier or Bertrand Burgalat. Like the man himself, this new album is furiously modern and delicately sulphurous, influenced as much by Alan Vega as it is by Gérard Manset.

Friday, January 6th 2017 // 8:30 pm
III Philippe Katerine Philippe Katerine makes his public life a work of art. It is impossible to know what hides behind his persona as a debonair minstrel, where he is just as talented playing bossa nova, as he is at jazz, kitschy pop, and catchy hits. The fact remains that, more than just a façade, Katerine is a truly excellent songwriter. With his new album, Le Film, he offers us a darkly lit sequence and a return to a more intimate style.

III Les Géopolitiques Le lieu unique and the Institute of International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS, in French), with the support of Nantes Métropole, invites you to participate in the 4th edition of Les Géopolitiques de Nantes: an annual event of roughly fifteen round-table conferences in the presence of roughly sixty lecturers, where participants try to decipher the strategic challenges confronting the world today. Explaining, offering perspective, multiplying the possible exchanges between specialists and the public: these are the objectives for this two-day event.
Friday, September 30th and Saturday, October 1st 2016 Full programme available in early September 2016
III Question(s) d’éthique : Addicted? Le lieu unique and the association EthicA created a new event in 2015 called Question(s) d’éthique. It strives to shed light on important social issues that question our habits and capacity to peacefully coexist. After our first edition on the question of gender – which brought together sociologists, political scientists, philosophers, and psychoanalysts – we now invite visitors to collectively think about the question of addiction. In our neoliberal societies, where individual autonomy has become a fundamental value, is the phenomenon of addiction not a paradox? Why and how do individuals become slaves to substances (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, etc.) and behaviours (games, exercise, food, etc.) that lead to suffering – and sometimes even death? That said, must we combat all addictions? And, are certain addictions not also an affirmation of individual freedom? Should they not, therefore, be respected in a democracy?
Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November 2016 Full programme available in September 2016
III Atlantide Le lieu unique and La Cité, Le Centre des Congrès de Nantes are pleased to invite you to the 5th consecutive literary festival of Nantes. Open to one and all, Atlantide offers the rare occasion to meet national and international authors, but also to merrily discuss the written word and relish it in its every form. Don’t forget that, in addition to the many conferences, conversations with authors, and readings, there will also be a number of events in many of Nantes’ bookstores and public libraries, as well as a used book market set up right next to le lieu unique.

EVENTS 2016/2017
III Les Rencontres de Sophie : La fin du travail ? Every year, le lieu unique and the association Philosophia invite the public to a very philosophical weekend: Les Rencontres de Sophie. There will be conferences, round-table discussions, debates, historian cabinets (?), and an abecedary, all of which will revolve around a given theme (scientific, artistic, political...) and then be studied and questioned from a philosophical perspective. Philosophers, sociologists, historians, political scientists and writers all join forces to share their knowledge, to debate and to question the way in which the world functions. Although they will be addressing the everyman, they will also conserve every ounce of their academic rigour and precision.
Friday 24 to Sunday 26 March 2017
Full programme available in January 2017
III Variations In collaboration with the Fondation BNP Paribas, le lieu unique has invented a new festival related to keyboards. The programme includes three days of concerts showcasing the creative abundance in classical, electronic, experimental, improvised, traditional music and jazz, as well as the natural effervescence resulting from a mix of these genres. A festival with artists who set the standard for the music of tomorrow and the great figures of yesterday’s music.

III Pas Normal! nights Unique in its state of mind and multiple in its form, a Pas Normal! night is an experience unlike any other. The evening begins with a salon d’écoute to discover adventurous forms of music in an intimate setting, then a deviant club when night falls to explore the recesses of oblique music, a Pas Normal! night offers a musical space that shakes up everything we thought we knew and pushes the limits of good taste.

III Questions of society In an increasingly complex world that has been turned upside down by technical progress, globalization, and different forms of violence, the human and social sciences offer us the possibility of clarifying major social issues. Every year, philosophers, sociologists, historians, jurists, and political scientists help us enrich our thinking, opening up debates through a multiplicity of perspectives that might help us make sense of the world around us. The 2nd edition of our new event Question(s) d’éthique will explore the problem of addictions, while also continuing our seminars in partnership with the Institut du Pluralisme Religieux et de l’Athéisme (IPRA) regarding the question “Society, secularisation and the fluidity of religion.” For this occasion, we will be welcoming the essayist Jean Birnbaum on October 20th 2016 to talk about his book, Un silence religieux. La gauche face au djihadisme. Finally, with the Institut d’Études Avancées de Nantes, we will inaugurate a new monthly event: Les mardis de l’IEAoLU, with conferences and debates that promise to shed light on the most important current topics for a wide audience, and with a strong international dimension. This cycle will be inaugurated on October 11th 2016 by a conference and debate on the idea of Work, with Alain Supiot, founder of the IEA de Nantes and professor at Le Collège de France, along with Bernard Thibault, former general secretary of the CGT trade union, and member of the governing body for the International Labour Organization (ILO). OCTOBER 2016 - MAY 2017 ENTRÉE LIBRE
III Documentary film The production of creative documentaries continues to gain new ground. These extremely diverse films, both in terms of scope and subject matter, confront us with the world and its different realities – be they near, far, intimate or universal. But, even though an increasing number of documentary films receive theatrical release, many can only be seen in festivals or rare events like Le Mois du Film Documentaire. For several years, we have regularly tried to share recent and rarely seen works by inviting directors to exchange ideas with the public. After focussing on films from Belgium, Italy, Iran and Lebanon in past years, this year’s edition will explore the world of documentaries from Germany. OCTOBER 2016 - APRIL 2017 FREE ADMISSION
III Architecture classes Organized by le lieu unique, l’École supérieure nationale d’architecture de Nantes, and the Maison régionale d’architecture, a series of seminars will be held in association with the exhibition Mégastructures next April and May. This offers an opportunity to return to the history of an architectural concept appearing at the end of the 1950s, and to define a prospective vision of the constructed environments and industrial landscapes it is known for. Megastructures could therefore be said to build something approaching a set of critical and renewed icons of the eternally difficult coupling of man and industry. APRIL - MAY 2017 FREE ADMISSION
