EDITOR’S LETTER
MOMENTS IN THE FLOW Happy New Year! What a transition this has been for us here at Life in the Overflow during the winter month. We packed up our headquarters and our launch base in Kenosha, Wisconsin and relocated to the mid-south. Although the process wasn’t without challenges and hurdles, we are now happy to call Memphis, Tennessee our new home! We are excited about what God has in store for us in our 2018 New Beginning! Now that we are settled, we are back to living our life poured out. Although I was in the midst of rooting up my life, life was still happening. At the end of the year, I had the pleasure to speak with Dr. Bobby Jones of Bobby Jones Gospel on BET. We talked about his long standing 35 year run with BET, discussed what he is doing now and more. I was humbled in learning how humble of a man he was, truly only desiring to see other people share their God-given gifts and talents with the world and using his platform to do so. Dr. Bobby Jones inspired me through our interview, because he reminded me of why I began publishing this magazine. He took me back the beginning of my passion and drive for creating Life in the Overflow: to provide a platform with mainstream appeal for extraordinary everyday people who are living their lives poured out for God. The many celebrities and big names are only where they are because someone gave them a chance. Thank you Dr. Bobby Jones for that reminder! So with that being said, let’s get back to the core of it all. Although we love to cover the influential names, we love sharing the gems hiding in our inner cities and communities. We need to hear from you! Share your new book or your new music release with us. Be sure to check out the online audio snippet of our interview on our website as well as read it in this issue of Life in the Overflow Magazine. We’re also gearing up for the 2018 Stellar Awards in Las Vegas where we will be covering fashion, events, and the who’s who in gospel entertainment and more.
Hope to see you on the red carpet! Stay in the Flow!

American Musician, Edwin Reuben Hawkins, leaves behind a legacy of memorable melodies and music that has spanned over 50 years. He was a pianist, choir master, composer and arranger. The contemporary Gospel sound that many are familiar with was birthed from Edwin’s own time with God. He is probably known best for his arrangement of “Oh Happy Day”.

APOSTLE CLIFFORD TURNER,PHD APOSTOLIC LEGACY OF LIBERTY Apostle Clifford E. Turner, PhD was not your average church leader. He was an author, visionary and a groundbreaking pioneer. He was one of the first to bring liturgical ‘prophetic praise dancing’ into the church as well as skits played out by the members of his congregation (drama ministry). He trained, taught, equipped and imparted many of God’s people. Despite ridicule and scrutiny, he answered the call of God and obeyed his voice on March 14, 1982 and opened the doors of Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church on the South Side of Chicago If you grew up in Chicago in the early nineties, as far as the far north suburbs - and you had access to the community access channel, then you knew all about Apostle Clifford E. Turner PhD’s ‘The Awakening’. He was definitely on to something different, when thousands of youth across Chicago would faithfully tune into his television show, which he wrote, produced, directed and launched through his own HOLYWOOD Studios Christian Media Company. The mini-series became one of his most notable accomplishments, as his innovative methods to spread the Gospel became commendable when he received the Midwest Television Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement for an Entertaining Program Series and four Angel Awards. This Spring2018, a documentary hosted by Roland Martin entitled, “The Making of the Awakening will premier. What a great honor for such a great man of God.
LEGACY & GRACE Apostle Clifford E. Turner PhD, passed away leaving such a great legacy at the age of 67. He made his transition to Glory with over 40 years of ministry on his heart. We remember this Apostlic pioneer and continue in prayer for his survivors; his wife, Lady Darlyn C. Turner and their nine children and four grandchildren. We also keep Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church & World Outreach Ministries and the Liberty International Network in our prayers as well during their season of transition.

IN THE FLOW COVER FEATURE Interview by Shanica L. Bell Dr. Bobby Jones, the Father of Gospel Music television and the visionary behind the legendary Bobby Jones Gospel television show on BET talks about his legacy and God’s grace for his life. LITO MAG: It was very encouraging to learn that you came from a humble beginning where you created a show to feature locals and gospel acts, tell us about the launch of Bobby Jones Gospel before BET? DR. BOBBY JONES: I wanted to create a television show for those who were not able to show their gifts and talents in church. 37 years ago, it was important for me to share our culture through our religion, as well as our spirituality.
.
LITO MAG: Why was Gospel music so important to you to present in a mainstream way or medium? DR. BOBBY JONES: There were other television personalities; Johnny Carson, Phil Donahue; other guys; Andy Wilson, Nat King Cole; and with wanting to express our cultural through our religion and where I was from people with gifts and talents could get on the radio or television, so they could now come on my show and express themselves on television. LITO MAG: After 35 years on BET, you two finally said goodbye and parted ways a few years ago; you have been quoted to say that the ending the relationship was like losing a loved one. With all the memories that you have over that 3.5 decades!!!, what are 2 of your most memorable moments with BET? DR. BOBBY JONES: You know that’s a question that I really can’t answer. because they all were memorable. I’m the kind of person where there are no big I’s or little you’s when it comes to doing what I do; so I put everybody on the same playing field and each individual that came to be apart of our ministry were important to me. Now there were some names that were more well known than others, that I’m sure attracted more people. But as far as the individauls themselves we’re all the same. working individuals for the Lord. But, some of those names are Dr. Maya Angelou, Louis Farrakahn, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Vickie Winans... They are great people, but you see they are all just mortal people. There are many great people that have done the same things as them, but just haven’t been noticed.

Dr. Bobby Jones, Founder and Creator of Bobby Jones Gospel. Bobby Jones Presents, and Bobby Jones #Countdown radio show.
You’re just as important as anybody else. That’s my philosophy. Dr. Bobby Jones
Cover: Interview with Dr. Bobby Jones- Continued from page 20 LITO MAG: Having the longest running television show on BET, along with your desire to express our culture through religion and spirituality; it seemed like the perfect marriage. DR. BOBBY JONES: It was. It was Godsent. LITO MAG: The world knows you as Dr. Bobby Jones, Father of Gospel music television , describe Dr. Bobby Jones, the family man, the husband, father in 3 words. DR. BOBBY JONES: That’s pretty accurate (The Father of Gospel music Television). But my 3 words are loving committed, and steady. LITO MAG: What’s in the future for Dr. Jones? Do you still have some dreams that you’d like to see come to pass in your life? DR. BOBBY JONES: No, I just want to continue to do what I do on television, as long as God allows me to do it, with the Impact television network (Bobby Jones Presents), presenting other artists that express their appreciation for God. On that show I give an opportunity for new artists who have not had the opportunity to get their music recorded and out there; I invite them to come and do television. That was the way I started Bobby Jones Gospel. Providing a platform for all the artists that are interested in pursuing their career through television - and not just singers, but dancers, spoken word, people that play different instruments; I do fashions and churchwear, just a multiplicity of talent that we have. For those people who go to church but what they do may not be applicable for church activities. They can come on my show and express themselves. Bonus/What People May Not Know: Favorite Color? Black is what I wear mostly. It’s thinning (laughs); I like red as well. Favorite Food? I’m a peculiar eater; Ive broken myself down to just fish and poulty as far as meats are concerned; but vegetables and fruits of all sorts. I want to stay around. Even though I’m going on 80; I want to be around.
22
What’s on your music playlist? I listen to everything that comes in for the Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown #1 Countdown show on the radio. That gives me the chance to see what the Billboards and others say is new and fresh that’s coming up. So it depends on what the message is mostly; I don’t play anything - I just listen. Unfortunately in my city we are limited as far as radio exposure; but I have the #1 Countdown show in America. My producers come up each week with the top songs according to their sales. I have no favorites, I don’t do rotations it’s whoever has been able to get the most exposure through radio. I guess you think I am very dull because I don’t choose people. I’ve always been like that; that’s why I always have new artists on my show. I always level the playing field. Because when you do the work of God and you start idolizing man so much it takes you off course. So I keep everybody on the same plain. I know there are people that think they sing better than others, but I don’t think God judges that it’s the heart. Just like you’re just starting out with Life in the Overflow Magazine, doesn’t make Gospel Today any bigger. You’re both doing it. You’re just as important as anybody else. That’s my philosophy, I hope you get that. BE the FLOW! | SUMMER 2017

FINDING YOUR TRIBE
Many people complain about the lack of support in their business, ministry or events. I see countless social media rants about who isn’t supporting a vision or who won’t sow a seed into another person’s cause. Let me just say this, it is okay today. It is okay that a few don’t support you, because there are so many others that will. Maybe you should change your approach and only pitch your dreams and visions to those who get you and understand your journey in business or ministry. Everyone will not be your backbone, shoulder, or support; just like everyone is not your friend. You have to be diligent in finding your tribe. Our current natural products include Shea Lotion, Brown Sugar Scrub, Body Mist and Hair & Body Oil. Order your QueenCare Products today. www.queencareproducts.com
You will know your tribe because they will speak your language and you will speak theirs. They will get the reason for your event and may even attend because you have a product, service, or something that speaks to the core of that person. You possess something that they can use to further themselves in business or ministry. These are your tribe members. These are the people that you should be connecting to. Look for your team and be diligent in doing so. Even if they are just cheerleaders in your endeavors. Never complain about the lack of support again. Round up your tribe, know them, connect and communicate with them and continue to be brilliant. Shanica, Bell Bella Creative Consulting www.bellacreativeconsulting.com
