Angela Carter’s quest has been to help others – through working as a journalist and communicator, in working and volunteering with various organizations, and through mentoring. Currently she is the executive director of the United Achievers’ Community Services Inc. (UACS), a charitable multiservice organization that focuses on uplifting the Black and Caribbean in the Region of Peel. She is also a writer and editor as well as a consultant who works primarily with non-profit organizations and small businesses. With a strong interest in cultural identity, intercultural relations, inclusionary practices and communication for social change, Angela is passionate about reducing poverty and helping people attain a quality of life that brings joy and prosperity to them and their community. This passion to learn about other cultures has taken her to various countries throughout the Caribbean and to India where she volunteered at a school in Punjab and conducted training sessions with the management board at a hospital. She has been very active in the communities where she resided and currently sits on the United Way of Peel Region’s Community Investment Cabinet and Black Community Advisory Committee, in addition to a number of committees that focus on improving the lives of individuals and families primarily from the Black and Caribbean communities. She also volunteers with CESO through which she has worked with First Nations communities in Northern Ontario and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She is a member of the Peel Regional Police Black Advisory Committee and a Trustee at the Central Park Baptist Church. Angela graduated from York University, Ontario, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, and received a Master of Professional Communication degree, with specialization in Intercultural and International Communication, from the Royal Roads University in British Columbia. Angela was born in Barbados and emigrated to Canada almost 30 years ago with her two daughters. She has four grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
