Reimer's Candies in Three Rivers embodies the magic of old-fashioned sweets and the cherished memories made by families for generations. Acquired by local entrepreneurs Rob and Leslee Taylor in December 2023, Reimer's is now part of a family of brands that includes another local favorite, Stafford's Chocolates in Porterville. The Taylors and their staff remain dedicated to honoring the original vision of Reimer's founders, ensuring that the spirit of the beloved candy shop continues to thrive for future sweets seekers. Through their efforts, Reimer's maintains its status as a nostalgic gem, offering handcrafted treats reminiscent of simpler times.

Lifestyle: What is the story behind Reimer's Candies?

Rob: Reimer's began in 1955 as a small family-owned candy shop in Three Rivers. Founders Ted and Millie Huffaker sought to capture the magic of old-fashioned confectionery, using traditional methods to handcraft chocolates and candies. The Reimer family took ownership in 1978 and ran the business until 2005, when the Bretz family took over. Today, we feel honored to continue the tradition that started almost 70 years ago. The original owners built something truly special—a place where handcrafted sweets evoke nostalgia for bygone days, and we remain committed to preserving that old-fashioned charm.

Lifestyle: How has Reimer's maintained its classic feel?

Rob: One of the most special things about Reimer's is how each owner has faithfully preserved the shop’s original essence over the years. Although we've added new products and recipes, we've stayed true to Reimer's roots, continuing to use the same artisanal techniques and preserving select timeless recipes that have made it a beloved local treasure for generations. From the moment you step through the door, you’re met with the same vintage charm that has drawn people in for decades. The atmosphere, reminiscent of an old European sweet shop, along with the irresistible

aroma of fresh chocolate and homemade ice cream, transports you back to childhood wonder. Every product, from our handcrafted chocolates to our small-batch ice creams, is still created with the same passion and care that began in 1955.

Lifestyle: What does Reimer’s represent for locals?

Rob: For many, Reimer's isn’t just a candy shop—it’s a piece of local history. Families have been coming here for decades, with generations growing up on their famous treats. It’s the place where childhood memories are made—whether that’s picking out your first truffle, savoring a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day, or watching your children experience that same magic. The nostalgia that fills the air at Reimer's is as sweet as the chocolates we sell.

Lifestyle: Could you tell us about some of your unique items?

Rob: Our artisan truffles are meticulously handcrafted in a delightful array of flavors that blend both classic and innovative combinations. Reimer’s ice cream is known for its rich, creamy texture, and is crafted in small batches using a gelato machine and only the freshest high-quality ingredients.

Among our most cherished offerings is our Christmas stollen bread, a traditional German delicacy. This festive bread is filled with a medley of dried fruits, nuts, and a hint of marzipan, all enveloped in a soft, aromatic dough. It embodies the spirit of the season, finished with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. Not only is it visually appealing, but it also serves as a delicious centerpiece for holiday gatherings.

Lifestyle: What’s on the horizon for Reimer’s?

Rob: Currently, we have three storefronts across California, located in Three Rivers, Oakhurst, and Avila Beach. We are exploring unique ways to connect more customers with our products and enhance their experience when visiting our shops. We’d love to see Reimer’s sprinkled throughout California, bringing our beloved treats to even more communities!
