Make a Will for peace of mind
In 2020, the number of people looking to put their affairs in order by making a Will rose significantly. The global pandemic made us all think of our own health and what might happen if the worst occurred. Despite that, more than 50% of people in the UK do not have a Will. One of the universal truths in life is that death comes to us all. Why is it that we don’t put these arrangements in place?

There are likely many reasons, but, apart from our unease at considering our own mortality, the main one is cost. People believe that putting a Will in place is expensive, getting legal advice from a solicitor to put a Will in place, even more so. And yet, the costs of sorting out an intestate estate, when someone dies without a Will, or dealing with the unintended consequences of a do-ityourself Will, can cost far more than the legal advice to get it right in the first place.
In January 2021, the Law Society of Scotland introduced new guidance to solicitors on Price Transparency. Law firms are now being actively encouraged to put their pricing out there, so their clients, you the consumers, can see how much legal services will cost. There are some difficulties with estimating some types of legal work, for example, court actions, where much depends on how long the case goes on for, and how complicated it is. However, with pieces of work like Wills and Powers of Attorney, most law firms offer a fixed fee arrangement, meaning you will know exactly how much it will cost to put these in place. Looking around at solicitors, comparing their prices with some of the non-legally qualified Will writing services, making sure there are no hidden, additional costs, is well worth the effort. Putting your Will in place using a solicitor, deciding yourself who you want to leave your money and belongings too, and being assured that will happen, is peace of mind and that alone is invaluable.

Yvonne Murray has turned a hobby of 25 years and a passion for teaching First Aid into a business.
Yvonne joined the British Red Cross after attending a First Aid at Work Course in 1998. The trainer was passionate, motivated, and committed to teaching. This inspired Yvonne to join the Red Cross as a first aider and attend events aiding individuals who found themselves injured or not feeling well.
Throughout her time volunteering Yvonne attended various events from Rock Ness, moto-cross, Highland Games, Olympic 2012 and Commonwealth Games 2014. Yvonne also volunteered with Keiran’s Legacy. This involved delivering lifelong skills of CPR and Defib training to young adults in Moray’s secondary schools.
Yvonne then started Pulse Training an approved training centre with Pro Training offering Level 6 First Aid at Work qualifications endorsed by SQA.
Under the First Aid (Health and Safety) Regulations 1981 employers have a responsibility to ensure that first aid provision in the workplace is sufficient according to their risk assessment.
The courses offered:
3 Day First Aid at Work course
An in-depth course enabling employees to take control of a first aid incident at work and manage it until the emergency services arrive. During the course you will develop an in depth understanding of CPR and the benefit of using a Defibrillator. Learn the importance of controlling bleeding, right treatment for a burn, how to recognise and treat a broken bone. Also learn about recognising a heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, diabetic emergencies. The certificate lasts for 3 years, the employee is then required to attend a 2-day refresher course.
1 Day Emergency First Aid course
Suitable if the employers risk assessment states that they are in a low-risk work environment or for an individual who wants to learn lifesaving skills. This course covers the basic first aid subjects, CPR, bleeding, burns, broken bones, shock, stroke, and heart attack. It enables an employee to act in an emergency first aid situation until the First Aider at Work arrives. They do not have the same responsibilities as the First Aider at Work has.
Paediatric 1 Day Emergency and 2 day at work
Paediatric course
The Paediatric courses are suitable for individuals employed in a childcare environment. However, first aid is not just required in the workplace. Anyone can learn first aid as accidents happen anywhere any time.

Safer people handling courses
This course is suitable for any individual working within the care environment where they are working hands on with people who have reduced movement. This course demonstrates safe handling techniques reducing the risk of injury to everyone involved. We cover the use of equipment including the use of a hoist, slide sheets, profile bed to name a few. This course is also suitable for informal carers who require a little guidance on how to move and assist their loved one after an accident or illness reduces their abilities.
