January: Health & Wellness

Dear Readers,

Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, it’s the perfect time to reset, recharge, and recommit to living our best lives. This month, our theme is Health & Wellness, a subject that resonates with all of us as we embrace new beginnings.

In this issue, we explore how movement can transform not just your body but also your mind and spirit. Our feature on Stride Fitness dives into how their treadmill-based, heart-pumping workouts are redefining cardio, offering a fun and efficient way to stay fit year-round. Meanwhile, Kinrgy invites you to experience a dance-inspired, full-body activation designed to unlock energy and creativity, making exercise a journey of self-expression.

We also shine a spotlight on Hall Orthodontics in Belle Meade, where healthy smiles are more than just an outcome—they’re a lifelong investment. Dr. Hall and her team are revolutionizing the orthodontic experience with cutting-edge techniques and a personalized approach, ensuring you and your family achieve the smiles you’ve always dreamed of.

As you navigate your health and wellness goals, remember that balance is key. Whether it’s a powerful workout, a mindful moment, or a small step towards self-improvement, each choice contributes to a stronger, happier you.

Here’s to a vibrant, healthy, and inspiring 2025!

Warm wishes,

January 2025

NASHVILLE HEALTH PRO, TAMERA THOENER, BELIEVES EVERYONE’S HEALTHCARE DESERVES TO BE CENTERSTAGE

A Starring Role In Bellevue Healthcare

ARTICLE BY ED ATLAS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

“The motivating factor for me is I want to help people... address health concerns on many different levels.”

When it comes to Nashville’s economy, music and medicine take centerstage. Tamera Thoener knows what it likes to play a starring role in both.

She came to town from Lubbock, Texas in 1991 on a scholastic scholarship to Vanderbilt with the intention of becoming a medical doctor. But shortly thereafter she traded her stethoscope for a violin, playing in the orchestra at Vanderbilt and later at Belmont, where she transferred to study music business.

“I changed schools and majors because I thought music would be more fun,” she says. “And the music industry is where I met my husband. He was a client of the studio where I was a manager. Next thing you know, we’re friends, we’re dating…and we’ve been together a long time!”

That man, producer David Thoener, has a resume that includes several Grammys and over 500 hit records for the likes of Santana, Aerosmith, Matchbox Twenty, KISS, Billy Joel, Faith Hill and Michael W. Smith.

By 2013 the music industry had evolved to the point that Tamera Thoener opted to return to school to pursue her original healthcare dreams. She became a nurse practitioner in 2015 and, with her science and business skills, revitalized a local urgent care/primary care practice.

When 2018 rolled around, she was ready to venture out on her own, so she opened Nashville Health Pro at 915 Harpeth Valley Place. She’s been playing a starring role in Bellevue’s healthcare scene ever since.

“The motivating factor for me is I want to help people, and especially women, address health concerns on many different levels,” says Thoener. “We look at the complete, holistic picture. What is the patient eating, the medications they’re taking, lifestyle and family history? We try to find the root cause and not

just treat symptoms. It’s not just, ‘Oh, you have a cough? Take this.’

“I like the functional aspect of medicine, and I’m very interested in an East-meets-West approach. You have patients who are very well educated and sometimes don’t want to take pharmaceuticals. They’re more interested in change through diet and exercise, not just a pill. So, we’re able to offer a combined approach that is science and evidence based.”

In addition to Thoener, a family practitioner and Nashville Health Pro’s sole owner, the team includes adult nurse practitioner, Kim Huang, and Doctorate of Nursing practice and family nurse practitioner, Nikki Stephens. As personal care providers, they’re able to treat a wide range of everyday acute and chronic healthcare needs.

“We have a full breadth of everything you can think of for a primary care need,” says Thoener. “You can come to us for your annual exam, hormones or a deep dive into your cholesterol. We even do thyroid management and provide treatment for migraine headaches.”

All three specialize in cosmetic and medical dermatology which means they provide everything from aesthetic services to treatment of pre-cancerous lesions and biopsies.

“I’ve always loved skin,” says Thoener. “One of my best friends in my early 20s was an aesthetician and she was always taking care of my skin. Just think about the psychological aspects of teenagers when it comes to their skin. So, even before I was in school, I knew dermatology was going to be an area of focus.”

Because beautiful skin and good health are important whether you’re on stage or not.

HALL orthodontics

Dr. Miriam Hall has been practicing orthodontics for nearly 15 years, bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for innovation to every patient she treats. Having opened her own office in Belle Meade in June 2020, her dedication to advancing care has solidified Hall Orthodontics as a trusted name in the community. Over the years, orthodontics has seen remarkable advancements. Among the most innovative treatments are clear aligners, lingual braces, three dimensional scanning and printing and airway-focused treatments which have revolutionized how patients achieve healthier, straighter smiles. A particularly significant development is the focus on airway health. Dr. Hall emphasizes the importance of identifying and addressing issues like obstructed breathing caused by improper jaw alignment or narrow palates. By incorporating airway-focused orthodontics into her practice, she helps patients improve not only their smiles, but also their overall health and quality of life, including better sleep and reduced risk of sleep apnea.

“ORTHODONTICS ISN’T JUST ABOUT CREATING STRAIGHT teeth , IT’S ABOUT IMPROVING OVERALL HEALTH, CONFIDENCE AND quality OF LIFE.”
- DR. HALL

The innovations deliver exceptional outcomes for children and adults. For kids, early orthodontic intervention can promote proper facial and airway development, setting the stage for lifelong benefits. Adults also benefit from discreet, effective treatments that fit seamlessly into their busy lives.

Staying updated on the latest research and technology is vital in a rapidly evolving field. Dr. Hall and her team regularly integrate the newest tools offered into their care, from continued learning and investing into topics such as airway and more complex adult cases; this ensures that patients receive care that is both evidence-based and aligned with the latest advancements in orthodontics.

Patients trust Hall Orthodontics because of the dedication to providing exceptional care tailored to each individual and through close working relationships with dentists and specialists. By focusing on airway health, advanced and personalized treatment plans along with a welcoming environment, Dr. Hall and her team prioritize both aesthetics and long-term health. “Orthodontics isn’t just about creating straight teeth,” Dr. Hall says, “It’s about improving overall health, confidence and quality of life.”

With a commitment to innovation and personalized care, Hall Orthodontics is redefining what it means to achieve a healthy, beautiful smile. "Live Your Best Smile!"
