While traditional stretching methods attempt to make you more “flexible,” we work to adjust the stretch reflex. This way, the Stretch Zone Method® gradually increases your active range of motion.
Consider how a car seatbelt works. If pulled too quickly, the belt locks. If the belt is forced, you are just stretching the material itself, and that’s where injury happens. When a car seatbelt is pulled smoothly and controlled, the belt will fully extend. It’s the same with your body’s stretch reflex.

Summertime is here and it’s the perfect time to make lasting memories on the river. For Captain Matthew “Sunshine” Keller, owner of river recreation company Sunshine’s Adventures, there’s nothing better than creating special memories with loved ones outdoors.
“After the loss of my sister to leukemia as a teenager, I discovered too soon that the only thing we truly leave behind are treasured memories,” shares Sunshine.
With both parents in the military, he spent his childhood constantly on the move and as an adult he found himself living what he refers to as a “more unconventional lifestyle” working as a pyrotechnical engineer, lead guitarist, and bartender. “It wasn’t until I landed in Nashville as a young man that I was able to sow my own roots in the soil of our community. The home my wife and I have been raising our children in is the only place I’ve ever stayed for more than a short period of time and I knew I was home when I arrived,” he says.
“I decided to anchor myself to a passion and vision that would allow me to be close to home for my young family, inspire my children, and share the amazing experience that brings our family together by taking a ride down the river. To some we may be just a river outfitter, but what my team and I strive to offer are treasured memories that you’ll share and remember for a lifetime.”
Sunshine - whose nickname is attributed to his “upbeat and positively spirited personality” - has been working on the Harpeth River for almost a decade. He officially took the plunge and launched his own company in March of 2018, where he and his team help both locals and visitors create memories on the river.
With a variety of rentals including river tubes, kayaks, paddle boards, and group floating “lily pads,” there are options for every type of river adventurer. For those looking for a curated trip, Sunshine’s Adventures offers a plethora of guided paddling tours ranging from 2.9 to 12.5 miles, hiking/paddling combo tours, and even overnight paddling/camping adventures.
“In collaboration with the amazing folks from The Barn at Riverview in Pegram, we [are] able to create a private, low traffic, and especially scenic overnight route where you can paddle directly to your primitive, riverside camp site with minimal to zero paddle or camp traffic,” he says.
They also offer “kayakessibility tours,” which provide special kayak accommodations and assistance for those with mobility challenges, making river fun accessible for a wider audience. In addition to renting kayaks and tubes for floating down the Harpeth, Sunshine’s Adventures is unique in that it has a shuttle service to pick-up and drop-off from patrons’ cars parked by the river and even has an option for groups to hire a minibus to come right to their door to drive them to the river and back.
“By offering our Captain’s Carrier shuttle service that provides a pickup and return from the river, we can relieve traffic congestion not just at the parks but also on the roads,” he says. “Plus, in collaboration with our friends at The Nashville Shuttle, we are thankful to provide a seamless service from start to end for multiple groups of any size.”

Photo by Ed AtlasIn keeping with his mission to help people create memories that will last a lifetime, Sunshine also has an event venue available for rent. The Barn at Riverview in Pegram provides a scenic space bordered by the Harpeth River with open fields and plenty of parking to accommodate groups of up to 500 guests for all types of events. From concerts and rehearsal dinners to corporate events and weddings, your next event could just be your next treasured memory!
Along with rentals, shuttles, and tours, public and private classes are even available for those looking to learn more about navigating the river. Classes include basic paddle preparation and training and American Canoe Association certified courses for those who seek a higher level of paddle training and water safety education. A Paddle Parents and Paddle Pets program is available for adventurers who are ready to take on the challenge, responsibility and reward of bringing their young children or 4-legged friends along for the ride.
Sunshine's Adventures launches on the Harpeth River from 8729 Newsom Station Road in Bellevue. Landings are at Hidden Lake State Park, 7851 McCrory Lane (3-mile route); Riverview Retreat, 6059 Riverview Drive in Pegram (7.5-mile route) and at Highway 249 in Pegram (12-mile route).
Paddle vessels will cover the route in 1-3 hours. Tubes will cover the same distance in 4-6 hours.

There’s no better place to enjoy both music and nature than at a Full Moon Pickin’ Party. Enjoy bluegrass music, community, local food trucks and craft beer at this fundraiser for Percy and Edwin Warner Parks.
At each Full Moon Pickin’ Party, enjoy three local bands as they take the main stage throughout the evening to play a variety of bluegrass favorites in addition to covers of country songs and even a few pop and rock jams.
This all-ages event is the perfect night out for the whole family! Bring the kids for an evening of fresh air and fun at Percy Warner Park. Admission is free for children under the age of seven.
Enjoy a variety of eats and treats from local vendors and food trucks! Come hungry and check out the assortment of food including gourmet, flavored popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream, and more!
Dogs love music too, so be sure to bring your pup to join in on the fun at the Full Moon Pickin’ Party! Dogs are welcome to attend, but make sure they stay on a leash (no longer than six feet) at all times.
Whether you’re looking for a fun, summer date night or an outdoor group hang with friends, this event has got you covered. Food, music, and a summer night under the stars are the makings of a perfect evening.
In addition to the bands playing on the main stage, the Full Moon Pickin’ Party is known for the impromptu pickin’ circles comprised of musicians attending the event. Attendees who bring an acoustic instrument to join one of these organic jam sessions will even receive a discounted admission.
While attendees can bring their own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, if you’re looking to get food and snacks at the party, head over to the Food Truck Court! In its own section away from the main stage, the Food Truck Court boasts loads of trucks offering a vast array of food and drinks. With everything from hot dogs and barbecue to Asian and Mediterranean dishes, there is truly something for every taste bud.
For over 25 years the Full Moon Pickin’ Party has been one of Nashville’s most iconic summertime events, taking place right in Bellevue. This seasonal tradition brings family and friends together for a night of live music in one of Nashville’s favorite parks. Tickets are available online or at the door and include complimentary bottled water, soft drinks, and up to three beers for adults. The Full Moon Pickin’ Parties are a way to raise funds for Friends of Warner Parks with the proceeds working to preserve and protect the beloved Percy and Edwin Warner Parks. With monthly parties taking place May through September, make sure to include a Full Moon Pickin’ Party into your summer schedule! Full Moon Pickin’ Parties will be held July 21-22, August 11 and September 15.
Maybe it was a school field trip or perhaps it was for a wedding. But if you’ve lived in Nashville for any time at all, you’ve likely visited Cheekwood Estate & Gardens.
But when was the last time you visited for no reason at all? If the answer is “never” or “I can’t remember,” this summer is a good time to reconsider.
The gardens are in peak condition, the mansion offers cool relief from the heat, and the grounds are the scene of some of Nashville’s most understated – and underrated – nighttime events.
And it all takes place just about five miles from the heart of Bellevue.
“From kids to grandparents, Cheekwood really is for all ages,” says Kim Hugo, Cheekwood’s director of marketing. “Cheekwood takes you out of your everyday life. Studies show that visits to botanical gardens evoke positive emotions that make people feel a bit more alive.
“Even if it’s only for a couple of hours, you can come here in the evening and it’s very social and fun. Other times it’s very peaceful, so it affords time for reflection or if you simply want to take a break. It sounds a little bit trite, but the experience really does make life more meaningful.”
Once the family home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, Cheekwood is a nationally acclaimed botanical garden, arboretum and museum. There are 13 distinct gardens over the 55 acres of the sprawling 1930s estate with its historic mansion and expansive vistas.
This summer there are numerous activities and must-see events including LIGHT: Bruce Munro at Cheekwood . Luminous light installations featuring the work of the renowned British artist are displayed in the garden during the evenings, and there’s a gallery exhibition in the historic mansion.
Another popular attraction is Thursday Night Out. This adults and kid-friendly event features live music, food trucks, seasonal beers and signature cocktails. It also runs alongside the Bruce Munro exhibit, making it an ideal way to jumpstart the weekend.
July also marks the beginning of the Under The Stars Concert Series. The seasonal series kicks off with the Nashville Jazz Orchestra’s 18-piece Big Band and Devlon Lamarr Organ Trio.
The summer highlights are in addition to Cheekwood’s permanent exhibits and special classes including art and gardening related workshops. Guided tours are available and there’s a 1 ½ - mile outdoor sculpture trail with modern and contemporary displays.
Hugo, who resides in Bellevue, has an extensive background in museum and art communications and is approaching her second anniversary at Cheekwood. From Warner Parks to Cheekwood and the Belle Meade Mansion, she sees something inherently worthwhile in the beauty of the attractions that line the south side of Highway 100 from Bellevue to Belle Meade.
“I think green spaces are important,” she says. “When the Cheeks built their home, they knew Warner Parks was being developed and they wanted that view of nothing but lush, beautiful green space. It’s the feeling you get. It’s why people hike to the top of the mountain. The calm and the beauty of the landscape is powerful. Living in Bellevue, where those views and experiences are easily accessible is such a benefit.”
Cheekwood’s complete event listings, hours of operation and admission prices are available online at Cheekwood.org
“The calm and the beauty of the landscape is powerful. Living in Bellevue, where those views and experiences are easily accessible is such a benefit.”
Accessibility makes a community great.
Access to infrastructure like roads and highways, and to amenities like picturesque parks and playgrounds. A variety of housing options in established and up-and-coming neighborhoods with a wide range of price points. And, of course, access to excellent schools and healthcare for the families who call the community “home.”
Accessibility helps make Bellevue an exceptional place to live and likely contributes to its culture of caring.
There are numerous Bellevue-based organizations that exist to serve neighbors in need, and they’re able to do so thanks to the spirit of generosity that’s ingrained in the community.
Here are just a few, along with information about how to become involved.
BELL Garden is a hybrid school and community garden located on the Bellevue Middle School Campus. Founded in 2012, BELL Garden strives to connect the community through garden based service, education, volunteerism, and food distribution to those in need.
Seasonal plants and vegetables are available for purchase every Thursday from 4:15 to 6 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to Noon. Visit the website for more details, including information on how you can get involved.

HOW HEATHER THOMPSON TRANSFORMED A TIRED AND DATED SPACE INTO A SPA-LIKE OASIS
When an empty-nest couple decided to remodel their master suite, they turned to Bellevue-based design consultant, Heather Thompson. Physical upgrades included an enlarged shower, soaking tub, increased counter and cabinet space, marble tile flooring from ProSource, and the installation of French doors. In the bedroom, Heather sourced floral fabrics with lots of natural fibers, including floor-to-ceiling drapery treatments from Brave Maggie Designs and bedding from Sprintz. Accessories and furnishings included lamps from JJ Ashley’s and night stands from Pd’s Franklin. Muted colors on the walls, along with mixed metallics in the décor trim and live foliage completed the look.
