Every issue of Bellevue City Lifestyle follows a theme. This month being the “Home” issue is the one that probably encapsulates all of them better than any other.
If you receive the magazine in the mail each month or make a point of grabbing a copy at the Bellevue YMCA or Bellevue Community Center, then Bellevue is indeed your home base, the physical center of your universe. That sense of home con nects all of us who live, work, worship and play here.
As we were approaching the deadline for this issue, news began to circulate that really hit home. Sometime during the overnight hours of February 6, one of Bellevue’s community treasures, Bellevue Edible Learning Lab “BELL" Garden, had been vandalized. Much of the equipment was either stolen or intentionally damaged or broken beyond repair.
BELL Garden was founded in 2012 as a hybrid school and community garden on the campus of Bellevue Middle School. It teaches people of all ages how to garden, from cultivation and planting to nurturing and harvesting. In addition to the education component, it provides fresh produce to community food pantries and on Saturdays, it’s a popular destination where people can shop, relax and simply enjoy being together.
“I walked in and I absolutely burst into tears because of what we do, our mission and all the folks we serve. It just absolutely broke my heart,” BELL Garden president Missy Hamilton told WKRN News 2. “That’s what’s really hurting me. How do you tell young people in the middle school and high school that this is that kind of world?”
Perhaps the most important thing we can tell them is that the vandals, while destroying just about everything, left BELL Garden’s most valuable asset untouched: its enduring heart and spirit.
That was evident on Saturday, February 8, when dozens of neighbors showed up to help with the cleanup and to kickstart BELL Garden’s recovery. Tears soon were supplanted by joyful smiles and chatter, making it like any other Saturday morning. It was an indication that the rebound could be more robust than springtime clover.
If you’d like to help, visit BellGardenTN.org. There, you can find out how to volunteer or make a direct contribution through the donation portal. You’re not just assisting BELL Garden; you’re making a profound and worthwhile impact in the community you call home. BellGardenTN.org/support

While traditional stretching methods attempt to make you more “flexible,” we work to adjust the stretch reflex. This way, the Stretch Zone Method gradually increases your active range of motion.
Consider how a car seatbelt works. If pulled too quickly, the belt locks. If the belt is forced, you are just stretching the material itself, and that’s where injury happens. When a car seatbelt is pulled smoothly and controlled, the belt will fully extend. It’s the same with your body’s stretch reflex.
Nearly 200 fans of Lawson High School’s baseball team packed the Loveless Barn for the inaugural First Pitch Dinner, a fundraiser for the Lightning program. Tony Vitello, head coach of the University of Tennessee’s 2024 College World Series champions, was the featured speaker for the event that raised $25,000. EXPERTS FROM LEE COMPANY’S BELLEVUE CENTER SHARE TIPS FOR PREPPING YOUR HOME FOR WARMER MONTHS AHEAD.
The cold winter weather is starting to fade and the warm promise of spring is on the horizon. As things begin to thaw, it’s important to make sure your home is ready for the change of seasons.
“THE
at one point in time. You don’t get that without really investing in your employees and the future that they have.” Some employees have been with Lee Company for as long as 45 years,
Whether it’s home projects that have been on hold throughout the winter or prepping to enjoy your outdoor living space, Lee Company’s Bellevue team has got you covered.
A mainstay in Tennessee for over 80 years, in 2021 Lee Company opened a location in Bellevue at 7071 Old Harding Pike to better serve the growing customer base.
“I've been out to those people's homes,” says Lee Company service manager and Nashville native, Karson Burns. “They've sat in my office and we've talked and so you just get to really understand the needs from the people when you're working that close alongside them.”
Burns started with Lee in 2017 and has worked his way up through the company. Today he leads a team of 30 people who, like him, know all aspects of the job. “Every single field supervisor we have here was in the field,” says Burns. “Every single service manager that we have was in the field here
underscoring the organization’s commitment to the people they hire and the customers they serve.
Covering everything from electrical repairs and rewiring to mechanical construction and renovations, when it comes to prepping your home for spring, the team at Lee Company can tackle just about any job you have on your list.
According to Burns, there are a handful of simple but important things to put on your list to get your home ready now so that you’ll remain comfortable during the sweltering summer ahead.
“Changing your HVAC filter, ensuring that you have the spring tune-up that we offer with our home maintenance plan,” he says is a top priority. “We’ll come out; we’ll clean the units off. We'll ensure that they're ready to go because they don't have a set time frame to breakdown and typically it's going to be that 4th of July weekend when you’ve got the whole family in town. Our plan is one of preventative maintenance.
And so, we try to get out there before something breaks down. The goal is that you only see us on the maintenance plan.”
In addition to tuning your HVAC unit, he says it’s also crucial to keep an eye on plumbing. “Plumbing is something that I would maintain year-round,” says Burns.
“Ensuring we flush the water heater at least once a year to prevent sediment buildup can prolong the life of your water heater. Checking your water pressure can help other fixtures and faucets inside the home maintain their integrity.”
When it comes to the exterior of your home, Lee Company says that pressure washing and sealing your driveway after a harsh winter will keep it looking good.
Spring is also a busy time for moving and Lee Company customers are covered there, too, with “pre-buy” inspections.
“We'll ensure that, yes, the home is up to or beyond code and that it's working properly, so you're not going to have any surprises once you do move in,” says Burns. “We give a good, clean bill of health, or we'll offer recommendations that you can then take to the seller.”
“PLUMBING
Lee Company’s commitment to Bellevue goes beyond everyday sales and service.
According to Burns, in addition to safety, their service pledge and core value is “to honor God by serving people with respect, integrity and compassion.” Lee Company invests in the community through philanthropic efforts and even helps to provide education in the trades, including its Skill Bridge program that is designed to train former military personnel.
“Our priority is to make sure our technicians are safe, to make sure our customers are taken care of, but we're going to do that with respect, integrity and compassion, no matter what,” says Burns. The way that we run a call at eight o’clock in the morning and eight o’clock at night is going to be the exact same way and the customers know that, too.”

We all remember the person in class with the gorgeous, color-coded notes, the highlighters in every shade, and the perfect penmanship. Malinda Moseley wore the badge proudly growing up, even earning praise for a meticulously packed suitcase during summer trips to visit her grandmother.
After college, Moseley spent her career in nonprofits, supporting attorneys through the local bar association.
“My husband is an entrepreneur at heart—I am not,” she admits with a laugh. “I liked the steady paycheck, the 401(k), all the security. But he was really encouraging in getting me to step out on my own.”
With a growing family and a dream to have more flexibility at home, she pursued a career centered around her passion for organization. She quickly learned that her skill was unique and could be a beneficial service for many.
“The thought of doing something you love and getting paid for it was foreign to me,” she says. “But once I understood that it wasn’t easy for everyone, it was a revelation.”
Nest Home Organizing debuted in 2016 as a professional service helping Middle Tennesseans regain control of their spaces. Malinda helps her clients not only bring order to their homes but create a tailored system that makes tidying and upkeep feel more manageable.

“I do an initial consultation over the phone to understand their pain points—what’s frustrating them most, how they feel in their space,” she explains. “If they’re calling me, they’re ready to do something. But it can be overwhelming, so we always start small.”
One of her go-to starting points? The infamous junk drawer we all have.
“Empty it out, sort like with like, and get rid of what you don’t need,” she advises. “Then, create zones for what’s left using things you already have—Amazon boxes, cardboard dividers—before running out to buy new containers.”
If organization is on your vision board this year, Malinda encourages you to press pause before running to dreamy container stores. While we’ve all likely fallen victim to the perfect pantries and random restocks splashed all over social media, buying the latest and greatest in bins and organizers isn’t always necessary.
“I shop within the home first,” she says. “Once I see what they already have and what works for their space, then we can talk about additional storage solutions.”
While professional help is certainly available, there are a few tips Malinda shares for anyone interested in tackling a home organization project on their own: one: start with small spaces, preferably something that’s a pain point, remove everything, then identify what should stay or go; two: understand that home organization is a process, and that the systems put in place now are always changeable; three: create a “home” for everything.
“Once you use something, it should have a designated place to go back to,” she shares.
Organizing can be a daunting task, but homeowners don’t have to go it alone. As a member of NAPO (the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals), Malinda adheres to a strict code of ethics, ensuring confidentiality and a judgment-free partnership for all her clients. And any items no longer needed will be donated to a charity of choice.
“A lot of times, people say it’s just nice having someone there with them,” Malinda adds. “Someone to encourage them, to be a cheerleader. It can seem like a scary process, but it doesn’t have to be.”

Find Professional Archival Framing Services At Affordable Prices At Bellevue’s artplus Framing Gallery
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
How many of you have some artwork, pictures or memorabilia just laying around, hiding in attics, closets or corners that you’ve thought about getting framed or reframed but never found the time? Well, there’s good news. There’s a new custom frame shop in Bellevue that can help you tackle that task, once and for all.
artplus Framing Gallery opened in February of 2023 by veteran art professional and 25-year Bellevue resident, Tom Borrelli. Borrelli first opened the business in 1991 when he began providing installation services to interior design clients in Los Angeles for some big names in the Hollywood entertainment industry.
Seeking a better place to raise his young family, Borrelli moved to Middle Tennessee in 2001 and settled in Bellevue. With his impressive resume, it wasn’t long before he landed some notable clientele in Nashville’s entertainment community, as well as some prominent art collectors, which led to landing contracts with clients like the Nashville Symphony, The Grand Ole Opry, GENESCO and Cracker Barrel to name a few.

When asked why he chose to open artplus Framing Gallery in Bellevue, Borrelli says. “Well, in addition to making Bellevue my home for 25 years, I have always seen the need for a reasonably affordable neighborhood custom framing alternative to the big box store.”
Located at 7091 Old Harding Pike, artplus has framed just about everything, from vintage clothing to old American flags, and from textile pieces and arrowheads to precious family heirlooms. “We have framed just about everything you can think of,” says creative operations manager Meghan Carlson. “We do shadow boxes, floater frames, we custom make frames, stretch canvases, we do frame repairs and all sorts of interesting 3D layouts.”
artplus’s services are all-encompassing. Not only is it the place to go to have your favorite piece of art or picture framed, it can provide a multitude of services for you, without you ever having to leave your home. For busy clients on the go, artplus offers in-home consultations where they come to your home, assess your art and images and wall space, then safely transport your pieces back to the studio where the custom framing takes place. They also provide a large format printing service for your favorite photos. If you have pictures on your phone from a special event or vacation that you would love to enjoy on your wall or give as a gift to someone, artplus can edit and print those images, design the mat and framing and create and install a beautiful gallery wall for you.
But if you don’t stop by their retail space, you’re missing half the fun. Of course, a wide selection of frames in every style imaginable is on display for you to see and touch and the space is also an active art gallery where many local artists, including some from the Bellevue area, have exhibits featuring their original creations. “We love to support the arts community and in particular, local artists, so we have a good selection of art in the gallery from local artists,” says Borrelli.
“We love to support the arts community and in particular, local artists, so we have a good selection of art in the gallery from local artists.”
They also carry a nice variety of giclée prints, which are more affordable fine art or photograph reproductions of originals. “Some customers opt for something more affordable for decorating,” says Borrelli. “For those clients, giclée prints are a great option and we offer a beautiful selection of giclées, some already framed, or we can custom design the framing together with the client.”
As a full-service framer, artplus Framing Gallery is equipped to handle everything from routine, everyday framing to archivally framed museum-quality jobs that will preserve the piece’s integrity forever. But it’s not exclusively for masterpieces. Anything with significant sentimental value is worthy of the archival treatment. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday. Private appointments are available as well.

Kitchen design has entered a transformative era, where innovation meets artistry to create spaces that are not only functional but also personal and sustainable. With advancements in technology, materials and craftsmanship, today’s kitchens are tailored to meet the evolving needs and tastes of homeowners.
According to interior designer Laura McCroskey, kitchens today are about more than just cooking—they’re an expression of personal lifestyle.
“Kitchen design has entered an exciting time where the possibilities feel limitless,” says McCroskey. “For me, the design process starts before lines are ever drawn on a construction document. I believe in creating spaces that enhance life, both functionally and aesthetically. The design process begins with a discussion about what a space needs to do, and what aesthetic will bring a spark to the homeowner. I also firmly believe that when designing a kitchen, one should walk out a recipe to make sure everything is in the right place to
suit one’s lifestyle. Cooking zones are imperative to a well-designed kitchen.”
Modern kitchens emphasize zoning, or the creation of dedicated areas for preparation, cooking and storage, to enhance workflow and functionality. These zones not only improve efficiency but also contribute to a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic.
Cutting-edge rendering software, utilizing technology similar to that used in gaming, allows homeowners to visualize their dream kitchens in hyper-realistic detail. While these tools inspire creativity, McCroskey advises balancing ambitious ideas with practical implementation to achieve the best results.
Technology, sustainability and customization are driving the revolution in kitchen design. Advanced appliances are at the forefront, enhancing convenience while aligning with a growing emphasis on eco-friendliness.
“From vacuum-sealing drawers that preserve food and reduce waste to smart appliances controlled by your
phone, the emphasis is on efficiency and sustainability. Functional storage built seamlessly into marble countertops and oversized workstation sinks are making daily tasks easier and more enjoyable. Thoughtful features like composting compartments and advanced food preservation methods reflect a broader effort to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact.”
Custom cabinetry that maximizes every inch of space minimizes waste while optimizing functionality.
“Forget the limits of traditional cabinetry. Blind corners, tiny nooks and hidden areas are now designed to maximize storage. Automated drawers and pop-up outlets are becoming increasingly common, marrying convenience with sleek aesthetics.”
Design trends have also evolved, becoming more flexible to reflect individual tastes.
“While white kitchens remain timeless and black adds drama, bleached woods continue to be popular. Style trends are no longer as rigid—whether you prefer modern, transitional, or traditional designs, you can create a kitchen tailored to your unique vision. There’s no limit to what you can achieve with today’s tools and technologies. The goal is to create spaces that resonate deeply with the people who live in them.”
The kitchen is the heart of every home and represents a space of endless possibility. Whether your aesthetic leans modern, farmhouse or somewhere in between, the tools and technologies available today make it easier than ever to bring your vision to life.
