The Heart of Home

Home. So much contained in that little four-letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.

Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” As we thought about home, we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That, of course, includes the food and drinks, the aesthetic and design, but most importantly—the people.

This month, I found myself reflecting on the memories that make a house a home. Whether it’s the laughter echoing through the halls, the comfort of a wellloved reading nook, or the meals shared with family and friends, these moments create the essence of home. They remind us that while walls and roofs provide shelter, it’s the experiences and connections within that truly shape our lives.

In this issue, we’re excited to share stories that celebrate the beauty and possibility of home. Our luxury real estate partners offer a 2025 real estate forecast, giving insight into what’s on the horizon for the housing market. We also spotlight a pinnacle mountain property that embodies elegance and tranquility. And we’re thrilled to feature Nuance Interior Design, whose commitment to fusing luxury, sustainability, and wellness creates timeless, elevated spaces.

We feel like the lucky ones as we got to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise this city and hope the small lens into their lives and work brings people in this community together.

As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you—in your city, neighborhood, and most of all, your home.

Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month labeled on the cover. They say they hold onto it for months as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thank you for letting us be a part of your home.

Happy March!

Reimagined Living

Transform Your Space From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary.

NW Finishing and General Construction specializes in creating bespoke luxury homes and providing high-end remodeling services that combine innovative design, functionality, and timeless elegance. Their offerings include custom home design and build, interior and exterior remodeling, space planning, ADU’s, as well as commercial renovations and remodels.  Bellevue Lifestyle caught up with owner, Ivan Turchik, to learn more about his business and inspiration.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

I was born into a family of carpenters, so from a young age, I was inspired by and involved in the construction business. My father owned a small cabinets and doors manufacturing business and I was fortunate to occasionally visit his workshop and even help him with some tasks. This experience opened my eyes and gave me the inspiration to create and build.  As I grew older, I always had a strong desire to start my own construction company to help bring clients’ visions and dreams to life. NW Finishing and General Construction was born from a passion to transform spaces into personalized works of art.

WHAT CURRENT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

Some exciting trends include:

Biophilic Design: Incorporating nature into the home through large windows, indoor plants, green walls, and natural materials like wood, stone, plaster and faux finishes.  Additionally, seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces with foldable glass walls and lush landscaping.

Smart Homes: Advanced automation for lighting, security, climate control, and entertainment systems. Mixed Materials: Combining textures such as wood, stone, and metal to create striking contrasts and depth.

TELL US ABOUT A FAVORITE PROJECT:

One of our most rewarding projects was a home addition in East Bellevue. The client was eager to have a bigger space for his large family, adding nearly 1,400 square feet to the existing house, including 1,000 square feet over the existing home and an additional 400 square feet downstairs. It involved complex problem solving to mend an old house built in the 70s to a new house and make it look like it was just built.  We also upgraded the rest of the home finishes, including new maple hardwood with custom stairs, new maple kitchen cabinets, new granite countertop, as well as new exterior finishes. It involved intricate restoration work paired with contemporary upgrades, creating a seamless blend of old and new. We accomplished our client’s needs, and seeing their joy made the experience unforgettable!

Another favorite project was completed in Kirkland for a client who had a house packed with kids and no place to work at home. We created his dream backyard ADU, roughly 650 square feet with a full mini kitchen, full walk-in shower bathroom, and expansive bedroom. Our client was very pleased of the quality and craftsmanship from all the woodworking involved both exterior and interior.

“When investing in a luxury remodel or building your dream home, start by defining your vision and priorities. Most importantly, make choices that reflect your personality and create a space where you’ll truly love living.”
~ Ivan Turchik, owner  NW Finishing and General Construction

WHAT’S TRENDING IN 2025?

Since I specialize in new construction, the top trends I see for 2025 are: indoor-outdoor connectivity, “sensory” design elements, and entryway envy. If you want to follow more home trends join our email list at maxrombakh.com.

TIP FOR BUYER:

Working with an expert in the area you’re looking in will save you time and money.

TIP FOR SELLER:

It takes more than just listing your home on NWMLS and putting a sign out in front of your home. Do your research before choosing a broker to sell your home. Zillow is a great place to start. There you can find a list of sales, testimonials, and links to the broker’s website and social media.

A PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT FROM 2024:

We are proud to say we had another record breaking year finishing #1 in Washington State with a total of $289MM in sales and 117 transactions. Thank you to our clients and the community for trusting in me and my team and continuing to allow me the opportunity to serve with the utmost integrity and excellence.

WHAT’S TRENDING IN 2025?

• Location. Location. Location. The return to office trend will increase demand for closein neighborhoods.

• Savvy sellers will price strategically. Gone are the days of overpricing and waiting it out.

• Normal interest rates are here to stay. Hot tip! Sellers: calculate the payment a buyer has to pay when you pick your list price.

• Presentation, presentation, presentation. Today’s buyers are reluctant to do projects. A great broker has the experience and vendors to create the perfect presentation.

TIP FOR BUYER:

MAKE. AN. OFFER. Shed the mindset of only making an offer once you know another buyer is planning to as well. Don’t wait for competition. And make sure your agent doesn’t wait for competition either! Too often we hear “call me when you get another offer.” Don’t wait for competition, it just causes you to pay more.

TIP FOR SELLER:

Pricing and presentation remain the name of the game. Sellers who understand that will win this game in 2025. Select an agent that has the knowledge, experience, AND expertise to navigate this new market for 2025. It is absolutely mission critical to your success.

A PERSONAL REAL ESTATE HIGHLIGHT FROM 2024:

Helping over 75 clients make life changes. The fast-paced, reality TV shows aren’t actually reality. Our true mission is to help clients move from one phase of life to the next. Handing the keys to a firsttime home buyer. Selling a childhood home. This is the “WHY” in what we do, and we are grateful every day to have their trust.

Nuance Interior Design Merges Luxury, Functionality, and Sustainability to Elevate Modern Living.

Designing with Purpose

ARTICLE BY TAYLOR ROBINSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANTON BENEDIKT

When it comes to creating beautiful, functional, and sustainable spaces, Nuance Interior Design stands at the forefront of luxury design in the Pacific Northwest. Founded by Sarah and Trevor Walker, the company brings together a wealth of expertise to offer clients a unique design experience that elevates everyday living.

With 20 years of industry experience, Sarah’s background includes a design degree and seven years as lead designer at Nordstrom Corporate, where she designed 142 stores. Her passion for wellness and sustainability drives Nuance’s mission to craft luxurious homes with purposeful, intentional design. “My passion is elevating clients’ quality of life by crafting spaces that prioritize wellness, sustainability, and livable luxury,” Sarah shares. Her approach ensures that each project is more than just a space—it’s a sanctuary reflecting the lifestyle and needs of every client.

Trevor’s background spans 10 years in construction, 17 years as a program manager at T-Mobile, and six years specializing in custom window treatments. His ability to manage complex projects while delivering outstanding customer service has been instrumental to Nuance’s success. Trevor’s dedication to elevating the showroom and expanding the window treatment division enhances the customer experience with exclusive products and services.

At the heart of Nuance’s operations is its 3,000-square-foot showroom, Washington’s only luxury, sustainable design center. Established in 2020, the showroom showcases a curated selection of custom furniture, cabinetry, and ecofriendly materials. Designed as a one-stop resource, it streamlines the design process, cutting both decision fatigue and time in half for clients. “By collaborating with homeowners, builders, and architects, we want to shape the future of home design—from foundation to furnishings,” Sarah explains. This vision is supported by global sourcing, infusing each design with international influence while remaining committed to sustainability and quality.

“My passion is elevating clients’

quality of life by crafting spaces that prioritize wellness, sustainability, and livable luxury.”

As the interior design industry evolves, Nuance has adapted to emerging trends, including smart home integration and the growing demand for wellness features. “Sustainability is a core value for us,” Sarah notes. Prioritizing eco-friendly finishes and non-toxic home construction, they support their clients’ health and well-being. This commitment extends to incorporating steam showers, saunas, and biophilic elements into their designs, all crafted to reduce stress and enhance the overall living experience. The team’s continued education plays a key role in staying ahead of these trends. Recent travels to Italy and Switzerland to explore art, architecture, and design partnerships have inspired the incorporation of both new and timeless elements in their work. By keeping up with the latest industry advancements, Nuance ensures that their designs continue to meet the evolving needs of their clients while promoting sustainable, wellness-focused living.

One of the key elements of Nuance’s success is its custom window treatments, which have become a signature offering.

Inspired by their own less-than-ideal experiences, Sarah and Trevor partnered with Hunter Douglas and Alta Window Fashions to offer high-quality, innovative solutions. “Window treatments are the finishing touch that transforms a space,” Trevor says. These treatments do more than serve a functional purpose—they elevate a room’s design while enhancing daily living.

Looking toward the future, Nuance is excited to expand into the commercial space, further strengthening its relationships with top custom home builders and architects. Sarah and Trevor remain committed to their client-first approach, offering a comprehensive, full-service experience that includes everything from initial consultation to post-installation support. “Our focus on excellence and attention to detail allows us to consistently exceed expectations. We get excited when we leave clients thrilled with the finished result” Trevor concludes.
