Tips to Organize Your Home

This

January

Declutter after the holidays

Put away new gifts or consider returning them. Store holiday decorations in bins with labels and send thank you cards. It’s a great way to get a fresh start to the new year!

Refresh the fridge

Clean out leftovers and expired items. Give the fridge a deep clean and organize it into zones for better storage and to prevent cross-contamination.

Paper clutter control

Set up a mail sorting spot by the door. Dispose of junk mail immediately to avoid cluttering your home.

Tidy gift-wrapping supplies

Make gift wrapping hassle-free. Utilize the back of a door to create an organized wrapping station with baskets for ribbons, bows, and wrap rolls.

Junk drawer makeover

Tackle the chaos in your junk drawer. Discard unnecessary items and organize the essentials neatly in a utensil organizer or small acrylic containers.

Cheers to a Wonderful Year Ahead

For many of us, this time of year is full of excitement. It presents us with a reset, new horizons and goals to pursue.

But for others, January can be a reminder of failed attempts from years past and the burden of expectation that this year will be different.

We approached this issue of Bozeman City Lifestyle from a mindset of not supplying quick fixes to check boxes in the short term but valuing what is sustainable over the long haul. We wanted to provide inspiration for making lasting, realistic, long-term improvements to your physical, emotional and mental health.

When it comes to anything in life—business, finance, food, home and personal health—it’s not what you do some days that move the needle—it’s what you do most days. For better or worse!

For instance, taking a vacation every day would be financially and practically unfeasible, but taking a trip a few times a year is doable. Having a beautiful steak dinner with a few cocktails and crème brulée every night for dinner isn’t best for your health, but doing so once in a while might be fine!

It’s not the sometimes choices we make, it’s the most of the time choices.

So plan the vacation and work to establish more regular rest in your work week. Join a fitness community or gym and enjoy that dessert you’ve been wanting to try. It’s not what you do some days—it’s what you do most days that will lead to a more peaceful, filling and fabulous year.

Here’s to you! We’re rooting for you.

CHEERS TO CHANGE

A Local Beer Aficionado's Guide to Exploring Non-Alcoholic Beers in the New Year

1. NON-ALCOHOLIC IPA FREMONT

Coming out of Seattle, Washington, Fremont Brewing has joined the Nonalcoholic craft Beer Movement. Leading their lineup is the Non-Alcoholic IPA, which showcases Citra hops. This beverage is hop forward, with notes of citrus and guava, while the flavor contains a moderate hop bitterness, characteristics of orange and lemon, and rounds out with a honey sweetness. For those who are seeking something similar to a West Coast IPA, this beer is a solid contender.

2. UPSIDE DAWN

ATHLETIC BREWING CO

One of the initial Non-alcoholic offerings in the Beer scene, Athletic Brewing has become a staple of many menus. The Upside Dawn is Athletic’s take on a classic Golden ale, and the quality of this beverage is Showcased with the over 10 medals awarded nationally and internationally. Upside Dawn has a smooth, clean taste that contains a pleasant balance between earthy/spicy flavors and a citrus character in the aroma. In addition to being alcohol free, the Upside Dawn is crafted to be gluten reduced, allowing for an even broader enjoyment base.

3. BITBURGER DRIVE

BITBURGER

Bitburger, a brewery out of Bitburg Germany, is an internationally acclaimed Lager brewery, and their excellence continues in their Non-alcoholic option, the Bitburger Drive. Brewed according to the German Brewing Purity laws, this Pilsner inspired beverage comes across, bright, sweet, and exceedingly drinkable. Drinking this beer starts with a familiar Pilsner prickliness on the tongue, followed by a malty sweetness with a subtle bitterness that is sure to satisfy the lager enthusiast.

4. NA CHOUFFE CHOUFFE

A classic Belgian Brewery with a love of gnomes, Brasserie Chouffe, recently released a non-alcoholic option for the Belgian Beer lovers. Utilizing a specialized yeast that doesn’t turn sugars into alcohol during fermentation, Chouffe’s N/A release starts with a fruity aroma that carries into the flavor in the form of a sweetness reminiscent of mango and green tea. This is a very light beer, balanced, and exceedingly refreshing.

5. MOUNTAIN TOP IMAGINE NATION

A Montana Local brewery based in Missoula, Imagine Nation serves as a hub for artistry and community engagement. Wanting to provide Beer options for all, they’ve released a few Non alcoholic options over the years, including the Mountain Top. With a floral aroma and sweet character, this thirst quenching beer is reminiscent of Fruity Pebbles and honey, perfect for anyone looking for a lightly hoppy, sweet drink.

6. FREE WAVE ATHLETIC BREW CO

Another Athletic Brew, the Free Wave is styled after a Hazy IPA, and it holds true to style. Bright and fruity, the Free Wave is hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra, a trio that comes together to create a pleasantly hopped IPA that is incredibly citrusy. Intense aromas of tangerine and grapefruit dominate this beer, followed by pine notes for a crisp finish. The lingering contrast of fruitiness and hop bitterness encourages you to pick the glass back up after each drink.

7. TRAIL PASS GOLDEN ALE SIERRA NEVADA

One of the initial big names of craft Brewing, Sierra Nevada has brought their hard earned experience and skill to the N/A scene with their Trailpass Golden Ale. Mildly hoppy with a solid malt backbone, the Trailpass Golden leads with a floral aroma and follows up with a sweeter, crackery body. True to a classic Golden Ale, the flavors are light, the malt is showcased, and it pours a beautiful Golden-amber color.

8.

FRESH SQUEEZED NON-ALCOHOLIC IPA DESCHUTES

A familiar name to many beer drinkers, The Fresh Squeezed is known for being a juicy, citrus forward and bright IPA. Deschutes has taken this popular IPA of theirs and reimagined it as a nonalcoholic beverage, while losing none of the hop characteristics the original Fresh Squeezed is known for. Citrus and pine notes come to the fore, while leaving a moderate hop bitterness behind, much like their classic IPA. Nolan McNamara is the General Operations Manager at Shine Beer Sanctuary in Bozeman. Glow Up Goals

Cryotherapy

The entire experience in the Cryotherapy chamber will be less than three minutes, which utilize sub-zero temperatures to deliver powerful cold therapy. During a Whole Body Cryotherapy session, your entire body is exposed to freezing temperatures which enacts a natural fight or flight response that constricts blood vessels to restrict blood away from the extremities. This redirection causes your body to move blood toward the core, protecting your vital organs. During this process, the body increases its levels of antioxidant capacity, oxygen and certain proteins that may decrease swelling and increase your tolerance to physical challenges.

Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy uses low levels of red and near-infrared light to help power your cells and promote healing and energy. The low wavelength produced by Red Light Therapy machines can be absorbed by the mitochondria in your body, which are responsible for many important processes in your day-to-day health, healing abilities and energy production. This relaxing service may help the body promote healing, boost energy levels, relieve minor pain and swelling and balance your mood—all in as little as 10 minutes per day.

Infrared Sauna

Sweat, detox and burn calories with gentle heat that efficiently raises your body temperature in 45 minutes or less. Infrared Saunas typically operate at lower temperatures of 110 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit compared to traditional saunas that operate between 130 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows clients to sweat easily without feeling overheated. Traditional saunas rely on higher temperatures for surface heat, while Infrared Saunas penetrate tissues effectively. This therapy is one of many ways of utilizing natural elements, such as heat, to activate your body’s health. Infrared light can help increase circulation and detoxification, manage weight, reduce pain and inflammation and improve your skin health and immunity.

Niagen® (NR) IV

Drip Therapy

Every cell in the human body contains a molecule called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). NAD+ is a critical coenzyme involved in energy production and various cellular processes such as DNA repair, cellular energy and mitochondria health. However, NAD+ levels decrease over time with age and stressors such as inflammation and alcohol, leading to different health issues. Niagen is a powerful, patented, pharmaceutical-grade form of NR (nicotinamide riboside). It's the most efficient and superior precursor to NAD+ available and can reduce age and stress-related cellular damage and improve energy and metabolism.

smart SWEETS

The beginning of the year is packed with inspiration and motivation to get back on track after a sweet-filled holiday season. It can feel extreme, and it also can be depleting to cut oneself off from everything indulgent after weeks of eating favorite sweet and savory recipes. For sugar lovers who believe going cold-turkey feels intimidating or overwhelming, nutrition-packed desserts are a great way to stick to healthy food goals without the guilt.

Nutrient-Rich Dessert To The Rescue

Quinoa BREAKFAST Bars

This recipe is a classic favorite. If you cut the bars into 16 pieces, they are around 270 calories each. They are very filling, packed with healthy goodies and taste, oh so delicious. If you can’t finish them yourself (it makes a lot!), bring samples along to your next workout class to share the love. Your accountability group will be asking you for the recipe! These come in handy for a quick breakfast on-the-go or an afternoon snack. You’ll want to taste these out of the oven once they cool a bit... simply scrumptious.

Combine:

• 1 cup wheat flour

• 2 cups cooked quinoa, cooled

• 2 cups oats

• 2/3 cup of your choice of chopped nuts

• 1 teaspoon cinnamon

• 1 teaspoon baking soda

• 2 tablespoons chia seeds

• 2/3 cup raisins

• Optional: chocolate chips as desired

• Optional: add additional seeds or nuts on hand such as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.

Notes: Boil quinoa at a 2:1 water to rice ratio. For estimating, 1/3 cup of uncooked quinoa yields 1 cup cooked quinoa.

Add this mixture slowly to combine:

• 2 eggs

• 2/3 cup peanut butter, almond butter or sunflower butter

• 1/2 cup honey

• 1 banana

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes, or until when the edges get golden brown. Bake in a 9x13-inch glass dish. After they cool, slice and enjoy. Keep them covered to maintain freshness.

Frozen PEANUT BUTTER Bites

Danger ahead: this snack is amazing. It’s the easiest of the bunch and also satisfies a sweet tooth craving. This can be whipped together in just 5 minutes and makes just a small amount. Feel free to take creative liberty here with your amounts, but if you make it to this recipe, they are around 90 calories per bite.

1. Cut a banana into 8-10 small slices, around 1/2 inch each.

2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter (or your choice of nut butter) on each banana slice.

3. Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate chips or caramel over each bite.

4. Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy!

Pro tip: A dash of sea salt flakes on top of these can be *chef’s kiss.*

These are great to keep on hand in the freezer all weeklong. Once they set, add them to a closed container to keep the bananas from browning.

Late night snack cravings are real! When finding yourself rooting through the cabinets for a sweet fix, these protein cookie dough bites are a great way to curb temptation. This recipe yields around 20 small bites, which can be cut into small squares or rolled into dough balls. Each bite is around 105 calories. If you find the dough is a little too dry, add a dash of milk as needed.

Ingredients

• 1/4 cup milk

• 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder

• 1/4 cup maple syrup

• 1/4 cup peanut butter (or alternate nut or sunflower butter)

• 1 cup almond flour

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

• Chocolate chips as desired

Pro tip: Use mini chocolate chips and for a dash of savory add sea salt flakes on top. Once combined, store the bites in the refrigerator in a covered container to keep them moist.
