A COUNTRY CHRISTMAS AT GAYLORD OPRY

Gaylord Opryland hosts some of the most spectacular events of the season.

From November 8 to January 4, Gaylord Opry Marriott presents ‘Ice!’. An expansive exhibit made of two million pounds of ice, you and your family can walk through artistically carved tunnels or take a thrilling glide down a winding ice slide. Gaze upon countless ice sculptures of perfectly engineered structures to recognizable whimsy, including this year’s featured character ‘Frosty the Snowman.’ There’s so much detail to take in.

There are over a dozen holiday activities at the Gaylord Opryland , including breakfast with Mrs. Claus, a Snowman Scramble Scavenger Hunt, gingerbread decorating, and photos with Santa. Schedules and package deals can be found on their website.

HOLIDAY COOKIE DECORATING AT THE GRAND HYATT NASHVILLE

The holiday season wouldn’t feel complete without decorating Christmas cookies.

A Lebkuchen cookie, similar to gingerbread, was created in the thirteenth century by German monks. They were crafted into fancy shapes and decorated with sugar. It wasn’t until the seventeenth century before German and Dutch settlers introduced Christmas cookies to the Western world. To date, whether the outcome is Instagram-worthy or a hot mess, there are fewer joys than decorating a cookie with your child. The Grand Hyatt Nashville recognizes how important a tradition this annual event is. They’ve got you covered with their Holiday Cookie Decorating event.

FROSTED: A WINTER SPECTACULAR

Frosted: A Winter Spectacular is an awe-inspiring, free-entry Christmas pop-up event for children of all ages. It runs here in Nashville from November 20 to December 24. LittleTix creates a cloak of mystery but promises to deliver a fantastic experience for children that includes live circus performances, a fun inflatable snow land playground, a polar bear ball pit, an icy toboggan slide, a card-making center, themed sets, colorful characters, an elf village, and good eats for refueling. What a magical place. Sounds too good to be true? Check out other pop-up events created by LittleTix. Reserve your tickets today.

HOME ALONE IN CONCERT

Listen and laugh at your favorite moments in Home Alone as you’ve never experienced. The Nashville Symphony will bring you to the edge of your seats while reliving Kevin McCallister’s antics as he defends his domain while his family is away.

A ‘90s pop culture film that will transcend as a classic for generations. Famed scenes scored under the direction of the

symphony’s conductor Jason Seber make the performances come alive as if the characters stand before you.

You and your family can catch this timeless piece at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on December 6, 7, and 8.

GRINCHMAS AFTERNOON TEA

Looking for just one boujee experience to do with your child during the holidays? The Lounge at Blue Aster has a table set just for you and your little one. This themed afternoon tea comes with green-colored macarons, buttercreams in the same hue, savory bites, and delicious pastries.

Immerse yourself and your child in the whimsy. Imagine their heart expanding when they eye a visit by the Grinch himself as he meanders through the room, eager to snatch some of your treats. Sittings are available most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. through December 29. Tickets are $95 per person.

LOWES BUILD & GROW CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP

Love the crafts, but hate the mess! Let Lowes handle it for you. Lowes organized the Build & Grow Christmas Workshop this season, where your child can create a gorgeous spinning snowflake that they can be proud of. Your child will receive direction on the assembly. Lowes provides the materials and caring instructors to make the workshop a fun and positive experience. Reserve a spot today!

ZOOLUMINATION

The Nashville Zoo’s Zoolumination, presented by AnheuserBusch, is the largest Chinese lantern festival in the U.S.A. The festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. every evening through to January 5 and boasts more than 1,000 illuminated lanterns in the shapes of unbelievable mythical creatures throughout the grounds. Your children will marvel at the size and detail of each lantern display.  While there, take in some live entertainment on the hour and catch a glimpse of some of the residents that might make an evening appearance like the flamingo or Sumatran tiger.

Before leaving, how about a family skate with a delicious cup of hot chocolate?

LAVERGNE PARADE OF LIGHTS

The fourteenth annual Parade of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, at 5 p.m. The parade will start at LaVergne’s City Hall, concluding at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in time for the coveted tree lighting, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. The excitement doesn’t end there. LaVergne’s fourth annual ‘Winter Festival’ will be waiting for you in the park, along with photo ops with Santa from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and free ice skating open from December 6 to January 3.

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”

As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.

Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.

One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.

Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.

These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just

about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”

We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.

To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.

The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.org

THE ULTIMATE GIFT

This holiday season, elevate your gift-giving to an unforgettable level with a present that blends style, performance, and cutting-edge technology. Whether you're shopping for a family member, a partner, or even treating yourself, gifting a 2025 BMW X3 will surely make a statement. You may be thinking, “Who buys a BMW for Christmas?!” But hear me out—the all-new 2025 BMW X3 is a surprisingly impressive choice.

2025 BMW X3 IS THE ULTIMATE GIFT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOSH

WHAT’S NEW IN THE 2025 BMW X3?

Everything. The fifth generation of BMW's best-selling SUV is bigger and better than ever. The 2025 X3 is longer, wider, and heavier than its predecessors, providing more interior space, added luxury, and room for a larger battery in the fully electric version. For what is considered the “entry-level” SUV in BMW’s lineup, the cabin is remarkably spacious, with ample room for four adults and even your furry friend in the back.

Inside, the X3 offers a refined, premium atmosphere. High-quality leather upholstery and a modern, minimalist dashboard layout create a sophisticated space designed for comfort—whether you're on a long road trip or a short commute. One minor downside is the rear seat space; with the driver’s seat in my position, the legroom for the passenger behind is a bit tight. But considering this is the entrylevel model, it’s a forgivable trade-off.

"GIVE THE GIFT OF LUXURY, TECHNOLOGY, AND PERFORMANCE WITH A CAR THAT EMBODIES THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON."

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Behind the wheel, the 2025 X3 is an absolute joy to drive—especially in the top-tier M50i xDrive version I had the pleasure of testing. Powered by a twin-turbocharged straight-six engine with hybrid assist, delivering around 400 horsepower, this SUV has more than enough power to make every drive exciting. The standard all-wheel-drive system ensures you’re ready for any weather, making it perfect for those winter roads.

In “Efficient” mode, the X3 is smooth, quiet, and comfortable—an excellent option for everyday driving that focuses

on fuel efficiency and a more relaxed driving experience. Select “Sport” mode and the X3 transforms. The engine roars to life, the exhaust note sharpens, and the cabin lighting switches to red and blue, matching the more dynamic driving feel. The steering tightens, the suspension firms up, and the throttle response becomes immediate. While it’s not going to rival an M3 in outright performance, it’s still plenty powerful and instills a great deal of confidence behind the wheel. Coming from someone who drives performance cars for a living, trust me the X3 M50i is surprisingly fun to drive.

SUSTAINABILITY MEETS PERFORMANCE

BMW’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the 2025 X3, especially with the xDrive30 model. The “mild” hybrid option strikes the perfect balance, offering a fuel-efficient four-cylinder Turbo engine that averages 33MPG. For those looking to reduce their carbon footprint without sacrificing performance, the hybrid X3 xDrive30 is an ideal choice. According to BMW, a full electric and full hybrid version should arrive sometime in 2025.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

BMW has always been a leader in automotive tech, and the 2025 X3 continues that tradition. Equipped with the latest iDrive 8 system, the X3 features a high-resolution, ultra-responsive touchscreen, along with voice and gesture controls. The system is fully customizable to suit your preferences, and with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, staying connected while on the road is a breeze.

THE PERFECT GIFT

The 2025 BMW X3 isn’t just a vehicle; it’s an experience. It’s a statement of thoughtfulness, generosity, and appreciation for someone special. This holiday season, give the gift of luxury, technology, and performance with a car that embodies the spirit of the season. Whether navigating snowy streets or enjoying a weekend road trip, the BMW X3 will ensure every journey becomes a lasting memory.

Sipping Through the Snow this Season

THE TENNESSEE WHISKEY TRAIL MAKES SPIRITS BRIGHT WITH CAROLS & BARRELS

If you were tasked with tacking on a word behind “Tennessee,” odds are, you’d choose “whiskey.” This beloved beverage comes with its own distilling process and a plethora of notable makers spanning across the state. Tennessee whiskey even has its own trail, complete with downloadable maps, trip planning tools, and even a passport system where securing enough stamps earns you a special prize.

The Tennessee Whiskey Trail spans the entire state, with notable stops including the recognizable Jack Daniel Distillery, the historic Nelson's Green Brier Distillery, and the trailblazing Nearest Green Distillery. While each maker on the trail promises an experience that’s both educational and delicious all year long, there’s a special promotion going on this winter that gives the holidays a little extra “spirit.”

Carols & Barrels is a season-long celebration across the Middle Tennessee portion of the Tennessee Whiskey Trail that will showcase themed pop-ups, specialty cocktails, and cozy decor at participating distilleries and tasting rooms. Each brand will debut their festive theme – from Elf to Candyland, Winter Wonderland, and many classic holiday films.

According to Charity Toombs, Executive Director of the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, “The holidays bring people together, often over a cup of cheer. With Carols & Barrels, we want to invite everyone to explore the world of Tennessee spirits in a festive, memorable way.”

With a special trail map released only for the season, you can track your progress through a mobile passport that is available to download at tnwhiskeytrail. com. Then, participants can make their way around Middle Tennessee’s participating distilleries to collect stamps that will also result in an exclusive prize (spoiler alert: it’s a stunning Tennessee Whiskey Trail-themed cocktail shaker set complete with an ice mold).

There are 12 spots serving holiday spirits through Carols & Barrels. For movie buffs, make sure you plan to stop at the batch of film-themed pop-ups. Up in Nashville, walk through a sea of swirly twirly gumdrops at Nashville Barrel Co.’s Elf experience, or cheers to a fellow filthy animal with a cocktail at Standard Proof Whiskey Co.’s Home Alone Christmas. If, like me, The Polar Express is your favorite film, climb aboard the express train-themed pop-up at Pullman Standard in partnership with George Dickel. We promise the you-know-what isn’t full at Big Machine Brewery & Distillery, which is hosting a Christmas Vacation-themed experience.

Others on the trail have created their own spirited themes. Venture out to Leiper’s Fork Distillery for “A Spirited Tennessee Christmas.” Go hog wild at Peg Leg Porker, who’s serving up a mean “Peg Nog,” or head out to Shelbyville’s Nearest Green Distillery, which has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

For a truly immersive experience, the Omni Nashville Hotel has partnered with Jack Daniel’s for a “Tinsel and Tennessee Whiskey” pop-up. Not only is the hotel offering discounted rates for trail participants, but they’re taking the fun one step further by offering transportation to themed stops along the trail in partnership with Mint Julep Experiences.

“The holidays bring people together, often over a cup of cheer. With Carols & Barrels, we want to invite everyone to explore the world of Tennessee spirits in a festive, memorable way.”
“It’s an incredible honor to join the Tennessee Whiskey Trail,” said StableReserve co-owner Beth Goodwin. “The state of Tennessee has been a longtime leader in producing distilled spirits, and Stable Reserve is proud to be a part of that tradition.”

The latest distillery to join the trail is Stable Reserve, a new coffee shop and spirits brand hybrid located in the heart of Downtown Franklin.

“It’s an incredible honor to join the Tennessee Whiskey Trail,” said StableReserve co-owner Beth Goodwin. “The state of Tennessee has been a longtime leader in producing distilled spirits, and Stable Reserve is proud to be a part of that tradition.”

The team is celebrating their joining in style this season with a dedicated theme: “Making Spirits Bright.” The immersive experience will feature a slew of seasonal cocktails, including the “Cousin Eddie” made with Stable Reserve bourbon, custard, vanilla, and cinnamon.

The fun kicked off on November 11 and runs through January 5. Whether you’re a holiday traditionalist, a whiskey enthusiast, or someone just looking for a new way to celebrate, Carols & Barrels promises an unforgettable holiday experience with every sip. You can vote for your favorite seasonal cocktail on Instagram and keep tabs on the program on their website.

EXPERT PUPPY TRAINING

Raising a happy, healthy and well-adjusted four-legged friend

This holiday season, some families will bring a puppy home as a gift for themselves or their children. Along with the joy of having a new dog in the house, there’s also the responsibility of raising that puppy to fit into the family dynamics in a safe and loving way.

“We've received some amazing feedback on this program and have developed nice relationships with our clients.”

So, what should people know before bringing a puppy into their home to ensure it's the right decision? “One of the things to think about is how much energy, time, and finances are going to be committed to that puppy to help it develop,” says Ayelet Berger, who, together with co-owner Julie Farris, operates Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Nashville. “Those first several weeks and months are so critical.”

Before teaming up in September of 2021, Ayelet and Julie each ran their own dog training companies. They believed that combining their knowledge and experience would have a greater impact for present and future clients. Both are certified dog trainers with additional certifications, including one from Family Paws®, an internationally renowned organization.

The two women have helped countless families with dogs of all ages, especially with puppies, which can often be just like newborn human babies. Having to get up in the middle of the night, potty training, and feeding are all part of the schedule. Beyond that, people need to think about how they’re preparing for that puppy, especially if they have children.

“From day one, start to teach through modeling appropriate safe behaviors around dogs,” she says. “It’s important to give them the respect, love, and space that they need.”

Sometimes, it’s hard for the average person to know what’s right and wrong when it comes to puppy raising. Sometimes, what seems like the appropriate thing to do or is innocuous can actually have some significant longterm behavioral effects on the dog, explains Ayelet.

“If the puppy has an accident, they might punish it in some way, whether by yelling at it or pushing its nose into its pee. But, instead of learning it shouldn't pee inside the house, it learns it should hide when it pees, so then it's harder to find. Or, we often see that sometimes what happens is the puppy really has no idea what the owner is mad about, and the puppy starts to feel that this human is not predictable, and if they're not predictable, maybe they're not safe. There could then be a fracture in the relationship, which can lead to distress, increased anxiety, and aggression.”

Their team of experts will instead teach the puppy and their owners the most effective and loving way to train their puppies. Everyone at Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Nashville who works with the dogs has at least one national and/or international certification, which is not always the case with other facilities. “Our industry is not regulated at all – anyone can call him or herself a dog trainer,” she says.

Depending on the type of training people are looking for when it comes to their puppies’ development, there are three main programs available.

“We have what people traditionally think of as dog training, which is having the trainer come to the home, do that initial consultation assessment, start to work with the puppy and their families, and then develop a training program for them.” They usually meet once a week and then have a certain number of follow-up lessons.

Then there are their puppy board and train camps for puppies who are five to ten months of age. “We currently take up to three puppies at a time at our puppy center in Goodlettsville so we can have playgroups,” says Ayelet. “This is where we're doing some foundational work like walking nicely on a leash or greeting visitors politely and calmly.”

“One of the things to think about is how much energy, time, and finances are going to be committed to that puppy to help it develop.”

InstinctDogTraining.com/ Location/Nashville

The program that is the most unique, she says, is their puppy-raising program. Puppies between the ages of nine weeks and up to five months stay in trainers’ homes for various lengths of time, depending on what they need. “The trainers, or puppy raisers as well call them, are getting up in the middle of the night doing potty training, working on getting the dog comfortable with crates, doing body handling, and providing exposures that are appropriate for socialization.”

During this time, puppy parents can watch videos and access notes online. When finished, the trainer lets the parents know what the puppy likes and dislikes in order to enable a smooth transition back into the home.

“We've received some amazing feedback on this program and have developed nice relationships with our clients,” she says. “So, if they do have any problems in the future, they can just pick up the phone and call us.”

“We love creating classic spaces that feel cozy year around,” Jessica Wilkerson of O.P. Jenkins, explains.

There’s nothing quite as comforting as being home for the holidays. Being surrounded by loved ones, savoring festive treats, and feeling the warmth of a cozy home that wraps you in its embrace like a comforting hug. A welcoming, comfortable space looks different for everyone, reflecting everyone’s unique style and personality.  Through festive decor, seasonal scents, soft blankets, and little personal touches, you can create an atmosphere filled with warmth and joy. Here are some simple ways to elevate your space, adding extra coziness and charm for you and your guests, making it the perfect holiday retreat.

CLASSIC CHRISTMAS TREES WITH BELLE MAISON:

A Christmas tree symbolizes warmth and coziness during the holidays, and a beautifully decorated tree can bring a welcoming ambiance to even the simplest of spaces in the house. Whether real or artificial, twinkling lights and ornaments collected over time can make any tree truly feel special.

“It makes you happy when you come home,” Katie Polenzani of Belle Maison explains. “And, you can collect your ornaments over time. It’s just a collection of your personality!”

Each Christmas tree is a unique display and can fill any room with warmth and memories as a beautiful reminder of home, love, and nostalgia. Every tree acts as a blank canvas for personal touches, allowing it to reflect individual style.

Belle Maison’s store features five unique Christmas trees, each with its own distinct personality and charm, showcasing the endless possibilities for holiday decor. These trees serve as a beautiful reminder that no two are ever alike. Each branch is decorated with ornaments passed down through generations, marking special occasions or simply overflowing with cherished memories.

KEEPING IT COZY YEAR-ROUND WITH O.P. JENKINS FURNITURE & DESIGN:

Rather than reserving decorations for only one time a year, consider investing in timeless decor that adds coziness to the home year-round. With the right decor items, anyone can create an inviting and cozy atmosphere for every season, making a home that’s welcoming every day of the year.

“We love creating classic spaces that feel cozy year around,” Jessica Wilkerson of O.P. Jenkins explains. “A couple of the ways we accomplish this is to incorporate soft textiles and warm, inviting color schemes in our spaces.”

With versatile pieces that stand the test of time, it’s worth investing in those that can be displayed daily and utilized for years. Look for items with warm tones and textures, such as lamps, blankets, or suede chairs. Or,  incorporate subtle red or green accents in artwork, candles, or blankets. These simple details can transform everyday decor into a timeless, cozy atmosphere while seamlessly adding a festive touch for the holidays and making every season feel like you’re truly home.

ADDING FINISHING TOUCHES WITH LE STUDIO:

Finishing touches are essential to transforming a house into a warm, inviting home for both you and your guests this holiday season. Small, thoughtful details can add character to a space, reflect your personality, and create a cozy atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and relaxed.

“I like to choose accessories that are in the same color palette. I love different shades of green, pretty golds, and neutral creams,” Michelle Kearns of Le Studio explains. “Adding crystal or glass elements will make the space look more elegant for the holidays. Fresh greens really add the finishing touch that can make your decor feel just a little more special.”

Seasonal accents such as fresh greens, pinecones, and candles are the perfect finishing touches this time of year, as they subtly capture the holiday spirit wherever they’re placed. Another easy way to bring warmth into a room is by decorating chairs and couches with pillows and blankets – whether festive or in a more neutral, sophisticated style. These thoughtful

additions create a comforting, seasonal sense of home.

Even the smallest details, like a holiday candle or unique coffee table pieces, can transform a room’s ambiance and comfort, inviting everyone to unwind and feel at home during the holiday season.

Grant & Amy Curran started in the real estate and management industry when they started Cloud 9 Cabins in 2018. The pair created Overnight Outfitters earlier this year after being approached by several property owners asking for their expertise and guidance on their own properties.

With thirteen properties - all located in the charming town of Gatlinburg - the couple first began renovating properties in the Smoky Mountain area as an investment, but what started as a passion project quickly became something much bigger themselves as their luxurious cabins have gained popularity for their impressive design and amenities. Only a three-hour drive from Nashville, Cloud 9 Cabins quickly gained attention from both locals and tourists with their modern, bright vision for their homes and continues to be sought out by high-profile guests and celebrities for getaways.

“It’s been great that we’ve had people come to us since they have seen what we have done with Cloud 9 Cabins… they tend to see our properties and like the design,” Amy shares. “All of our properties have excellent ratings and reviews and are ranked really high when it comes to the top performing properties in the area so that led other property owners and investors to reach out to us regarding management.”

Selective of the properties they take on for Overnight Outfitters, Amy shares their goal is to offer design services, improve owners’ properties, and add them to their management roster. Guest relations and customer service are also

very important to the team - whether it be to one of their own properties or for their properties under Overnight Outfitters. Alongside Grant and Amy, the team is extremely passionate about hospitality and strives to provide the best guest experience possible.

“We love our amazing team… they do excellent with guest communication, housekeeping, and concierge services - they are the reason we have almost only five-star reviews,” Amy shares.

Overnight Outfitters also offers virtual design and three levels of full-service design for your property. Their team will do market research and use data to design properties with features that will increase bookings and drive revenue. Through marketing, photography, guest communication, concierge services, calendar management, property maintenance, housekeeping, financial reporting, and taxes, Overnight Outfitters is designed to create an exceptional experience for owners and guests.

The experienced design team at Overnight Outfitters knows what it takes to make guests stop scrolling when they see the photos of your listing. Their goal is to help you increase revenue, drive more bookings, and attract more attention to your property.

“We want our guests’ stay to be better than expected, and we do that by making them feel at home,” Amy shares. “We like to curate experiences for [them] so their trips are seamless from the time they show up at our properties to the moment they leave.”

THE RETURN OF A FAMILIAR FRANKLIN RESTAURANT

SAFFIRE SPARKLES AGAIN

Longtime local favorite restaurant Saffire has officially reopened at the Factory at Franklin, and it’s just the

reputation for being that perfect spot for everything from family brunches to date nights and prom dinners. It was the

"SAFFIRE CREATED A LEGACY AROUND BELONGING, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE."

kind of homecoming that feels like it was written in the stars. This isn’t just a restaurant reopening; it’s a whole vibe. After almost seven years of being missed by locals and visitors alike, Saffire is back, bringing its unique mix of Southern soul, seafood, and global flavors that people just can’t forget. Originally opened in 2001 by Nashville native chef and restaurateur Tom Morales as a base of operations for his movie catering business, Saffire quickly carved out its place in Nashville’s heart. The restaurant closed in 2017 after 16 years in business so Tom could focus on other projects. For those who don't recognize the name, Tom Morales and his TomKats Hospitality are true visionaries. The team's creations at ACME Feed & Seed, The Southern Steak & Oyster, Southernaire Market, and Loveless Cafe are practically legendary. Saffire was his first baby, though, and it built a

place where you’d feel at home, whether you were grabbing a quick lunch or settling in for a long, chatty dinner with friends.

Lauren Morales, Tom’s daughter and now co-owner of TomKats Hospitality, describes it perfectly: Saffire created a legacy around a sense of belonging, no matter who you are. And you can tell that heart is still there in the revival. It’s like the past and the present all wrapped up in one welcoming, delicious package.

The menu at the new Saffire is everything you’d expect and more. They’ve brought back the crowd favorites—the house-smoked prime rib, beef tenderloin with a bleu cheese biscuit, and that chili peach-glazed pork chop. The new items, like the seared halibut with lemon-smoked feta grits and the wood-fired filet mignon, show they’re willing to evolve while still honoring the classics.

One of the most iconic things about Saffire’s revival is the 300-year-old wooden bar that’s back and better than ever. This bar isn’t just a spot to grab a drink; it’s a piece of history. That energy, that warmth—it’s the heart of the restaurant. And with mixologist Carley Hansen behind the cocktail menu, expect some seriously innovative drinks alongside the usual wine and craft beer suspects.

Jazz ensembles will start performing soon, bringing some life to the spacious outdoor seating under The Factory’s historic water tower. It’s the perfect backdrop to a night that’s all about soaking in the Southern charm. For those wanting something more intimate, The Blue Room is back as a private dining space, ready for everything from private dinners to quarterly tasting events.

The return of Saffire is part of a bigger transformation at The Factory. With renovations and new openings like Nashville favorite Etch, The Factory is on its way to becoming Franklin’s go-to spot for unique food experiences. Reservations are live on their website, so book in advance and get ready to be part of a new chapter in Franklin’s food scene.

Tom Morales put it best when he said, “It’s exciting to go full circle, to start over where we began.” It’s about reconnecting with old friends, making new memories, and savoring every bite in a place that feels like home.

New Year, New You

IN YOURSELF IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GIFTS YOU CAN GIVE YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES THIS YEAR

New Year’s resolutions can be so tough to keep. It’s a headache trying to accomplish the lofty goals you have set for yourself, let alone staying focused and motivated all along the way. But what if it wasn’t about achieving such an unrealistic ambition? What if it was about changing yourself—your mindset? Psychotherapist, writer, and motivational speaker Katie Gustafson reveals to us that it is not about conquering that resolution, as it is more about becoming the person who will accomplish, with intention, the desired outcomes you’ve set for yourself. She suggests that people should take inventory of themselves and ask, “What is it I really want?”

After years of fumbling through her 20s in an effort to “find my me,” Gustafson found the enneagram, a personality and character typing system that would change her trajectory forever. While pursuing a career in Christian music, she pivoted and retooled as a psychotherapist. “I came to discover that I loved people’s stories and helping them rewrite the parts that weren’t working anymore, even more than I loved writing songs,” says Gustafson.

Gustafson has 15 years of private practice as a psychotherapist and uses the enneagram as the lens through which she practices. She started on a rigorous path of self-study in 2006 and then received formal training in the Narrative Enneagram tradition in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2018. She uses it to help individuals, couples, and corporate teams reach their highest potential. Gustafson believes that learning about your core personality type can educate and equip you, benefiting all areas of life. There are nine types of core personalities.

The enneagram is to be applied for self-understanding, which leads to deeper self-compassion. It is used to better understand who you are and how you operate so you can become more self-aware, living from a place of intention and responsiveness rather than reactivity. The Enneagram goes much deeper than the optics of personality to the core motivations of how and why we think, feel, and behave the way we do.

“One of my favorite settings to teach the enneagram is my Enneagram Mastermind Series. It’s a local group of like-minded women who meet once a month over lunch and learn about the dynamic and life-giving ways to use the enneagram in life and relationships. It’s a safe place to share our stories, meet incredible friends, feel seen and known, and enjoy a delicious lunch,” says Gustafson. Her next group will start up in March of 2025, so stay tuned for registration.

Gustafson is also launching a podcast in April 2025 entitled “Mid-Sentence.” Her podcast focuses on supporting women in their second half of life. Whether they are returning to school or starting a new career, the podcast aims to support ages 40s, 50s, and beyond in their next adventure. And although the podcast is aimed towards women, anybody can benefit from it. “We all have women who are dreaming up their next chapter in [our] lives!” Gustafson wants her listeners to “not be afraid to jump…Dare to dream and create a life you love and don’t want to escape. It’s not about becoming your best self; it’s becoming your favorite self.”

KATIE GUSTAFSON

katiegustafson.co | @katiegustafson.co

Gustafson loves to do what she does because she understands the other side of therapy and counseling. Like most of us, Gustafson has her own mental health journey. She knows it’s tough. She gets it. She’s there with you. She’s a supporter of the change process and doing inner work, having received hope and healing through her own therapy.

Next year, Gustafson will have a book coming out called Odd Numbers: The Enneagram for Misfits, Mavens, and Everyone in Between. Whether you listen to the podcast, read her book, join the Mastermind Group, or book a session for yourself or your team, Gustafson will guide you into the life and story you want for yourself this year. Give the gift of self-love, self-care, and compassion this holiday season.
