Home—it’s more than just walls and a roof. It’s where life unfolds, memories are made, and a sense of belonging takes root. While a house may provide shelter, the people, the stories, and the thoughtful touches transform it into something more profound. This month, we explore what home truly means in our Home Issue, celebrating where we live and how we shape our surroundings to reflect comfort, community, and connection.
The word home has deep roots in our language and our hearts. Derived from the Old English hām , meaning “dwelling” or “village”, and tracing back to the Proto-Germanic haimaz , it has always signified more than just a structure—it represents belonging. Over centuries, home has evolved to mean a place of comfort, connection, and identity. Whether it’s the house we build, the spaces we create, or the community we embrace, home is ultimately where our story begins.
For many, home extends beyond the front door. Our outdoor spaces have become extensions of our living areas, places to unwind, entertain, and create lasting moments with family and friends. We’re excited to highlight Fusion Outdoor Living, a company redefining luxury exteriors with custom pools, hardscapes, and outdoor designs that turn backyards into personal retreats. Because home isn’t just about what’s inside—it’s about creating a sanctuary in every corner.
At the same time, home is also about the care and maintenance that keeps it safe and functional for years to come. Enter Repipe Specialists, the nation’s leading repiping company, ensures homes across America have strong, reliable plumbing systems. What makes this story even more special? The company’s CEO, Jay Teresi, calls Canton home, proving that even a nationally recognized business can stay rooted in the values of a small-town community.
Through these stories, we celebrate the many ways we define home—through craftsmanship, innovation, and a dedication to creating spaces that enhance our everyday lives. As you turn the pages of this issue, we invite you to reflect on what home means. Perhaps it’s the front porch where you sip coffee in the morning, the kitchen where laughter fills the air, or the community that makes you feel like you belong. Whatever it is, cherish it because home is where your story begins.

Kitchen design has entered a transformative era, where innovation meets artistry to create spaces that are not only functional but also personal and sustainable. With advancements in technology, materials and craftsmanship, today’s kitchens are tailored to meet the evolving needs and tastes of homeowners.
According to interior designer Laura McCroskey, kitchens today are about more than just cooking—they’re an expression of personal lifestyle.

“Kitchen design has entered an exciting time where the possibilities feel limitless,” says McCroskey. “For me, the design process starts before lines are ever drawn on a construction document. I believe in creating spaces that enhance life, both functionally and aesthetically. The design process begins with a discussion about what a space needs to do, and what aesthetic will bring a spark to the homeowner.
I also firmly believe that when designing a kitchen, one should walk out a recipe to make sure everything is in the right place to suit one’s lifestyle. Cooking zones are imperative to a well-designed kitchen.”
Modern kitchens emphasize zoning, or the creation of dedicated areas for preparation, cooking and storage, to enhance workflow and functionality. These zones not only improve efficiency but also contribute to a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic.
Cutting-edge rendering software, utilizing technology similar to that used in gaming, allows homeowners to visualize their dream kitchens in hyper-realistic detail. While these tools inspire creativity, McCroskey advises balancing ambitious ideas with practical implementation to achieve the best results.
Technology, sustainability and customization are driving the revolution in kitchen design. Advanced appliances are at the forefront, enhancing convenience while aligning with a growing emphasis on eco-friendliness.
“From vacuum-sealing drawers that preserve food and reduce waste to smart appliances controlled by your phone, the emphasis is on efficiency and sustainability. Functional storage built seamlessly into marble countertops and oversized workstation sinks are making daily tasks easier and more enjoyable. Thoughtful features like composting compartments
and advanced food preservation methods reflect a broader effort to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact.”
Custom cabinetry that maximizes every inch of space minimizes waste while optimizing functionality.
“Forget the limits of traditional cabinetry. Blind corners, tiny nooks and hidden areas are now designed to maximize storage. Automated drawers and pop-up outlets are becoming increasingly common, marrying convenience with sleek aesthetics.”
Design trends have also evolved, becoming more flexible to reflect individual tastes.
“While white kitchens remain timeless and black adds drama, bleached woods continue to be popular. Style trends are no longer as rigid—whether you prefer modern, transitional, or traditional designs, you can create a kitchen tailored to your unique vision. There’s no limit to what you can achieve with today’s tools and technologies. The goal is to create spaces that resonate deeply with the people who live in them.”
The kitchen is the heart of every home and represents a space of endless possibility. Whether your aesthetic leans modern, farmhouse or somewhere in between, the tools and technologies available today make it easier than ever to bring your vision to life.

Regarding luxurious outdoor transformations across North Georgia, Fusion Outdoor Living is a Design and Build Firm that sets the gold standard. With over a decade of experience, Fusion specializes in crafting elegant, functional spaces that elevate everyday living. From pools and pavilions to custom-designed putting greens and outdoor kitchens, Fusion’s team is redefining how homeowners experience their backyards.
At the heart of Fusion is Matthew Bearden, a third-generation builder whose passion for design and quality has made his firm the go-to for outdoor living in Cherokee County. “Outdoor living is anything that enhances your outdoor experience at home,” Bearden explains. Fusion’s portfolio showcases stunning swimming pools, artificial turf installations, cozy fireplaces, and innovative entertainment hubs—all tailored to the client’s vision. Although we are geared toward complete design/build projects, we offer our services for projects of all sizes, from retaining walls to decks, patios, pathways, landscapes, irrigation, etc.
What sets Fusion apart is its all-in-house approach. “When you work with Fusion, you’re working directly with our team from start to finish,” Bearden emphasizes. There are no subcontractors, no guesswork—just seamless execution.” This one-stop-shop model ensures superior quality control, a smooth process, and a trusted team on-site every day.
Their design philosophy is simple yet impactful: create spaces that integrate seamlessly with North Georgia's natural beauty. “We aim to design spaces that look like they’ve always belonged there,” Bearden says, “incorporating nature into every detail.”
Fusion’s projects enhance homeowners' outdoor lifestyles and represent a sound long-term investment. With thoughtful design and high-quality execution, their services add significant value and curb appeal to properties, making them a practical and luxurious choice for homeowners.
Fusion Outdoor Living stays ahead of the curve by offering cutting-edge trends in outdoor living. One standout feature is artificial turf, praised for its low maintenance and versatility. “From petfriendly spaces to putting greens, it’s become incredibly popular,” Bearden shares. Fusion even offers annual maintenance to keep installations pristine year-round.
Pavilions are another growing trend, providing all-weather entertainment areas. “We often incorporate outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and TVs to create spaces that combine the comforts of indoors with the beauty of the outdoors,” Bearden explains.
Bearden’s expertise goes beyond luxury. His designs reflect elegance and practicality, addressing challenges like erosion control and driveway repairs with the same meticulous care. “We focus on building spaces that enhance aesthetics and functionality, creating something truly enduring,” he says.
Growing up in a family of builders and contractors, Bearden’s expertise is rooted in tradition. “I’ve been on job sites since I was a kid,” he shares. This legacy of craftsmanship shines through in every Fusion project, whether it’s a tranquil retreat or a vibrant outdoor entertainment hub.
Fusion also offers state-of-the-art 3D renderings, including drone-style flythrough videos, to help clients visualize their projects. “This technology brings the design to life, making it easier for clients to see our vision,” Bearden explains.
Fusion Outdoor Living prides itself on creating outdoor spaces that serve as luxurious retreats and harmonize with North Georgia's natural beauty. "We use the land instead of changing it too much," Bearden explains. We aim to make it look like the design grew there naturally as if it was always meant to be a part of the environment."
This organic approach ensures each project feels authentic and connected to its surroundings. Fusion incorporates existing features such as trees, slopes, and natural rock formations into their designs, enhancing the space's aesthetics and functionality. "It's about working with nature, not against it," Bearden says.
• Start early to ensure a summer-ready space. • Collaborate on design and budget to avoid surprises. • Invest in versatile features like a pavilion or sport court. • Incorporate low-maintenance options like artificial turf to maximize convenience and aesthetics. • Schedule a consultation now to explore custom 3D renderings and visualize your dream outdoor space.
“Fusion creates elegant outdoor spaces that redefine luxury, seamlessly blending functionality and beauty for North Georgia homeowners.”
This philosophy resonates deeply with Atlanta homeowners. Whether it's a patio that seamlessly extends into a wooded area or a pavilion designed to frame mountain views, Fusion's work showcases the region's unique character. These details elevate the property's visual appeal and provide a sense of tranquility that’s hard to replicate.
“North Georgia offers so much natural beauty,” Bearden reflects. “It’s a privilege to design spaces that honor and enhance that beauty, creating something that feels both luxurious and grounded in nature.”
Matthew personally guides each project, ensuring clear communication and meticulous attention to detail. “I’m the single point of contact for every client,” Bearden says. “This guarantees their vision is brought to life without miscommunication or compromises.”
Fusion’s recent projects highlight their unparalleled creativity and craftsmanship. From extravagant treehouses with zip lines to bespoke helipads and sports courts, their work is as versatile as it is awe-inspiring. “We’ve crafted spaces for some of the most discerning clients in Cherokee County,” Bearden shares, “yet we approach practical needs, like erosion control, with the same level of meticulous care and dedication.”
With a well-thought-out design, Fusion’s services offer an excellent long-term investment. They effortlessly add value and curb appeal to your property. Their designs combine function and luxury, giving homeowners a space that enhances their lifestyle while increasing their home's overall worth.
For Matthew, seeing the transformation is the most fulfilling part of his work. “Watching clients experience the before-and-after moment is priceless,” he says. “We take their vision and make it even better than they imagined.”
With spring just around the corner, Fusion encourages homeowners to plan now. “Our process takes time to ensure perfection,” Bearden advises. “If you want to enjoy your space this summer, let’s start designing today.” Visit: FusionContractingGA.com
STYLE YOUR HOME IN TONES AND TEXTURES WITH DESIGN HELP FROM HOUZZ INTERIOR DESIGN EXPERTS
ARTICLE BY NICOLETTE MARTIN
Decorate your space with handmade textures such as the modern, maker revival of 1970s macramé and year-round tropical feel of wicker. MACRAMÉ Made through knotting instead of weaving, macramé can add a unique touch in many various ways. Houzz contributor Laura Gaskill suggests incorporating it as nursery decor, plant hangers, wall hangings and modern fiber arts. WICKER According to Houzz contributor Yanic Simard, “the best way to really embrace the luxury-cottage appeal of wicker and rattan is to combine different forms of the two in one space... Look for other unexpected places to add a natural twist to your home with a new material woven into your palette.”
Houzz contributor Katie Treggiden offers many ways to incorporate natural materials and natural-state timber into your home, including using wood to cover one wall in a home for a pleasing accent wall; featuring your firewood as a striking, stacked display; and mixing different types of wood and different finishes in the same space. “A simple way to incorporate the wood trend is to expose structural wooden beams already present in your home,” Katie says. “Instead of painting them or boxing them in, leave them raw or give them a coat of wax to enrich the tones.”
Do you feel like your all-white room is missing something? Houzz contributor Kelly Porter bets what’s missing is energy.
“The best way to add a spark to any space,” she says, “is with bright color.”
Kelly says green is one of the easiest colors to live with, looking organic even in its more vivid tones.
“When searching for the perfect bright green, think springtime—fresh green grass and newly sprouted leaves,” she says. “These greens have lively undertones that will look comfortable and warm in your white space.
Other colors Kelly recommends adding as accents are yellow, royal blue, orange, blue-purple, red-purple and sky blue.

Bonny has spent the past few years actively fighting cancer as an advocate for The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
In her free time, Bonny enjoys spending time with family and friends, her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cassie Spears and her 2-year-old granddaughter, Beatrice. She also enjoys reading and spending time near the beach and any time spent as a BeeBee to her granddaughter.
