Right Down Santa Claus Lane

Here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane! Christmas in Celina is my favorite time of the year. Not only does our historic downtown turn into a magical wonderland reminiscent of a Hallmark movie, but all of us at Celina Lifestyle celebrate our anniversary!

This year, Celina Lifestyle celebrates 3 years arriving in your mailboxes on a monthly basis. We are forever thankful to our founding partners who helped make my dream a reality. Eighteen local businesses trusted us to share their brands and their stories with our growing community. Without their partnership, we could not have become the community hub that we are today. Since December 2021, we have grown from 36 pages to 84 pages, filled with exciting local events, inspirational stories, and highlights of all that is special in our town. Our partnerships have grown from 18 local businesses to over 65, allowing us to share even more with our readers each month!

In this Holidays & Giving issue, we learn not only about what Celina is celebrating this season, but also about neighboring town, Weston. Our lead writer, Sharla Davenport, sits down with Weston locals and fills us in on the history and happenings of this local hidden gem.

If you like to travel for the holidays, check out a few Enchanting Christmas Towns right here in the great state of Texas! You can find traditions, food and festivities all in a day's drive. Or, stay home for the holidays and see our monthly Events calendar for what all Celina and surrounding areas are planning for this December.

City Lifestyle launches its annual national Giving Campaign. Learn more about how you can nominate a local family that may be in need this holiday season. City Lifestyle was able to help a Celina family this past year through this campaign and would love to do so for others again this year. We are a community of givers here in Celina with a servant's heart. Reach out to those who might be struggling and share the spirit of the season.

As always, thank you for being part of our community of readers these last 3 years, and we'll see you around town!

Merry Christmas!

Collin County’s Oldest Community Experiences A Rebirth

BACK HOME IN WESTON, TEXAS

ARTICLE BY SHARLA DAVENPORT
PHOTOGRAPHY BY KRISTI MURRY

Do you know that Weston is the oldest city in Collin County? This remarkable town is known for its authentic charm, famous traditions, and rich history.

Weston is over 184 years old with Larkin Adamson credited as naming it after his Missouri hometown. According to the Texas State Historical Association, Weston grew over the next forty years as a stagecoach stop on the way to Dallas. The booming town had over fourteen businesses including hotels, general stores, two churches plus a school. For decades Weston enjoyed popularity, but the creation of railroads built in nearby Celina resulted in an abrupt halt in Weston’s growth.

Although travel to Weston diminished, many families remained, averaging a small

population of 200-300 persons intermittently for over most of the next century. Conversely, the last decade has produced record-breaking development in Texas and Collin County. As a result, the communities around Weston grew rapidly yet Weston remained a small provincial town until recently.

This unprecedented growth provided new visitors coming to Weston, attracted by the charisma of its original 1850s downtown buildings. One of the biggest draws was the recognizable Texas Range Honey owned by Steve and Epi Goldstein.

In 2023, after Steve Goldstein decided to retire the honey store, his wife, Epi, desired to better serve Weston. Bicyclists and tourists,

purchasing honey, constantly asked for more such as  beverages or snacks. Eventually, Epi decided to oblige so she opened Sis’s Country Store, named after the first owner Sis Mugg.

Sis Mugg opened Jack’s Grocery in the 1950s, honoring her late husband, but locals always called it “Sis’s” instead. The store remained open until the 1990s. Epi knew her new venture had to be named after Sis, the way it was always known. Epi called Margaret Merritt, a Celina resident and Sis’s daughter, seeking support for the store’s new name. Naturally, Margaret approved and even provided Epi with original items like old pictures as well as the original butcher block used by Sis.

Sis’s Country Store started with a food truck serving tacos and tasty hamburgers, an

“IT

WIL L ALWAYS HAVE THAT S MA ATMOS P HERE NO MATTER TH E S

understatement to many. Continuing, Epi added a stage in the back for live music. Now, the store offers unique items like Olive Oil from South Texas, specialty canned goods, local farm fresh eggs, and various desserts like Weston’s own Marilyn Chamberlin’s State Fair Blue Ribbon fried pies (if you know, you know). Epi said those sell out instantly. Of course, the store still sells Texas Range Honey.

Sis’s Country Store is a family business with Epi’s sisters, brothers, and family members all assisting with various tasks throughout the business. Almost everyone lives in Weston or within a four-mile radius. Epi says, “I could not run this without my family. We all work together.” Furthermore, customers often ask Epi, “Are you the new Sis?” - quite an honor to her.

Inside Sis’s Country Store is Reese’s Coffee Corner, owned by Epi’s niece, Reese Flores. Reese, a Celina High School graduate, is no stranger to the coffee industry.

It was Epi who recognized this and suggested Reese open a coffee shop inside the store. Reese’s Coffee Corner offers “craft espresso” with Brazilian coffee beans from the 1418 Coffee Roaster in Celina, 1836 Farms Milk, and homemade natural syrups. Reese believes using quality ingredients equals a better coffee experience.

A lifelong Weston resident, Reese still loves her town. “I remember it just as it is now,” she says. “It’s cool to have a business in the same space where I have grown up,” she recalls.

Weston enjoys so many traditions Reese remembers such as the annual Fourth of July Parade or seeing the chickens roaming freely around Chicken Street. The Weston Homecoming for all former and current residents occurs each June. Additionally, the “Light Up Weston” holiday event adorns buildings with Christmas lights plus a visit from Santa Claus. Epi Goldstein declares, “It’s straight out of a Hallmark Movie.”

Lyle Wise, owner of the Old School Playhouse agrees. “We are so impressed with the friendliness and quaintness of Weston,” he notes. His newly renovated building is home to Anderlin Arts and café. “Missing the Fourth of July Parade isn’t the worst thing, but it’s pretty doggone close,” jokes Lyle.

Surrounded by forthcoming developments, Weston is approaching nearly 1,000 residents. Business owners like Epi Goldstein are excited about the focus on Weston. “It will always have that small town atmosphere no matter the size,” she says. “We will always have that family feel, whether it’s watching the chickens or the kids playing outside with the neighbors,” Epi continued. Collin County’s oldest city may be changing, but its residents pledge to maintain its values and traditions for decades to come.

AT HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

DOMOTECH HELPS GET YOUR HOME ENTERTAINMENT READY

You have planned your holiday party for months. The decorations are perfect, the food is amazing, the drinks are chilled, and your signature cocktail perfectly complements your menu and theme. As the sky darkens and the guests arrive, you notice that the lighting is either too harsh or too dark. The music you spent a week picking to make the perfect playlist can only be heard if you hover over several small bluetooth speakers inside and outside. John Auquilla, owner of Domotech, has all the solutions to your problems.

John Auquilla brought his Home Technology Concierge company, Domotech, to North Texas. His mission is to create an unforgettable experience for your guests and make everyday life more enjoyable. But what truly sets Domotech apart is its personal touch. They offer homeowners something more than the standard system. John provides personalized solutions tailored to your unique needs and preferences that bring audio and video to life while staying hidden and beautifully integrated with your space. This personalization makes you feel less like a client and more like a valued and understood individual.

In 2022, with their three kids, John and his wife moved to the Celina area from New York. He started his business in 2012, working with businesses and homeowners. Their company was focused on referrals and grew quickly. Wanting something different for their family, they made the move to Texas. John confesses that it has been a reboot of his business, as he works hard to earn local referrals and build trust with local clients. Now in their second year, their business, Domotech, has grown locally and continues to work with clients nationwide, a testament to their reliability and success, instilling confidence in potential clients.

When entertaining in your home or office, the goal is to create a moment guests will never forget. For the holidays, John suggests you consider lighting vignettes that draw your guests around the room. Only in Texas can you host a poolside holiday party with a glowing fire, so be sure to include the patio in your lighting plan.

Ambient music and video allow your guests to experience the music and entertainment throughout your home or business.

A Home Technology Concierge works with clients to create and maintain seamless sound, video, light, and technology use. If you are building a new home, remodeling an existing home, or wanting to update your home theater, John and his team want to help you execute your project. Their process starts with a consultation visit to your residential or commercial space, where they want to understand your goals and vision for the area. They will also assess your technological needs and discuss expectations.

John shared that setting expectations at the beginning of a project is critical to its success. They provide a comprehensive proposal encompassing your wish list, a strategic plan to achieve project goals, a detailed timeline, and aesthetic guidelines for direction. These are not cookie-cutter systems; every client's needs are different. John and his team will engineer and plan every project, crafting designs and precise installation plans that seamlessly integrate technology with your home's aesthetics. Working with a client's design team, Domotech’s goal is to make the technology disappear into your home’s design. Their systems are hidden in plain sight, blending perfectly with your design and decorations.

In the implementation phase, the Domotech team breathes life into the designs,  collaborating with your interior designers and builders. This phase allows for any necessary adjustments and additions to the original plan. It ensures that all parties are on the

same page, giving you the reassurance and confidence that your project is in good hands.

John shared that many of his clients have “app-apathy”  from too many applications and controllers trying to control a random use of technology in their homes. John’s concierge team uses applications tailored to each client and their home's needs. His team delivers systems that operate on one controller and one application. They also continuously monitor your system, ensuring it does not lose its program when the power goes out. This continuous monitoring provides peace of mind, knowing that your system is always ready when needed.

One exciting feature Domotech has been installing is Circadian lighting systems, which follow the human body's natural sleep/ wake cycles. Circadian lighting is a strategically designed system that may have the power to positively affect people’s health, alertness, productivity, and more.

Whether you're starting a home construction project, planning a large or small renovation, building a pool this spring, or wanting to upgrade the systems your business is using, John and his team at Domotech want to be part of your planning process. You can learn more about Domotech and how they can support your upcoming project by visiting their website Domotech.us

MEET TAMMIE DUNN WALKER

Family And Finances Here In Celina

ARTICLE BY ROGER IRELAND | PHOTOGRAPHY BY NICOLE WIERICK

Meet Tammie D. Walker. In 2015, she and her husband, Mark, purchased property in Celina after having passed through many times over the years on their way to Lake Texoma. The plan was to wait several years to build and move to Celina, but after attending several downtown festivals with their twins, Alex and Addie, they abandoned the original plan and moved to town in December 2018. Apparently, the passion for Celina was contagious, as much of the extended  family began moving to the area shortly thereafter. Her professional life centers around her Strategic Wealth Advisor Team, a franchise of Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC.  She and her partners, Lindsay Jones and Nikki Fry, truly love what they do. As Tammie describes it, “As financial advisors, we get the opportunity to help clients plan and achieve their financial goals, such as raising their children and ultimately their retirement. We also help their adult children with their financial futures.” This goal is not rhetorical as their practice is truly a multigenerational affair, having recently worked with a fourth-generation client.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS?

Being with my crazy family. For Thanksgiving this year, we all stayed at a cabin in Broken Bow. All we did was cook, do puzzles, play games and just spend time together. Similar idea for Christmas, but we will all be in our home in Celina. It will be chaos and it will be amazing!!!

“We live in a community that always needs support, and everyone can help, whether it’s offering financial support or offering their time.”

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CELINA HOLIDAY TRADITION?

I love visiting all our local stores and knocking out my Christmas list. We have so many wonderful places to shop to get very unique gifts, and as a bonus I get to visit with all the shop owners. I do like to talk, just ask my husband!

WHAT IS THE BEST HOLIDAY GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? WORST?

We love to travel so I’d have to say vacations are the best. We are very fortunate that we get to do a lot of that. As far as the worst is concerned, wireless earbuds… FOR WORK!!

DO YOU HAVE ANY FINANCIAL ADVICE FOR FOLKS AROUND THE HOLIDAYS?

Well, I could be boring and say, “Watch your budget," but I’d rather say only buy things that are memorable. I think many times people get caught up in the ‘number’ of gifts given or the ‘size’ of the gift given and it should be about the sentiment of the gift. So a bit more focus on experiences and creating memories such as tickets to ‘The Gift of Christmas’ or a gift that commemorates an experience such as a framed picture.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO VOLUNTEER AND GIVE BACK SO MUCH?

My family and I have been very blessed. We have been provided a lot of opportunities that are not offered or available to everyone. I recognize that and don’t take it for granted so I want to give back. We live in a community that always needs support, and everyone can help, whether it’s offering financial support or offering their time.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, FAMILY, AND BEING SO INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY?

Sometimes I am not so sure that I am, in fact, balancing everything. That said, it helps to have so much of my family in this area. They will jump in at a moment’s notice to help with whatever is needed, as well as my amazing team at work that is always very happy to help. As they say, “It takes a village!"

WHAT IS ONE WISH YOU HAVE FOR CELINA FOR THE HOLIDAYS?

That everyone will just be kind. We never know what someone else may be going through, especially at the holidays. You can reach out to Tammie, Lindsay, or Nicole with the Strategic Wealth Advisor Team for all your financial needs.

CORNERSTONE

Spreading The Holiday Joy

CHRISTMAS

Cornerstone Assistance Network of North Central Texas is a faith-based nonprofit committed to helping local neighbors in need. Established in 2010 in northern Collin County, the organization works to provide temporary financial assistance, job assistance, mentoring, coaching, and budget accountability to help neighbors affect lifelong changes. Cornerstone NCT relies on partnerships with churches, businesses, and other nonprofits to provide neighbors with short-term assistance and long-term guidance.

In 2023, Cornerstone North Central Texas impacted 1,691 local neighbors. That number includes over $160,000 given in direct financial assistance to families experiencing hardship due to challenges like job loss, health complications, and even generational poverty. With the explosion of growth in the Prosper, Celina, and Gunter area, more and more people need financial assistance. The assistance program meets monthly with our families, offering mentorship while working to provide training for sustainable living. Cornerstone NCT works closely with other local nonprofits such as Gracebridge, Prosper Ladies Association, and Lovepacs Prosper Celina Gunter to ensure families are receiving the specific items they need, including food for every day or over school breaks. Additionally, academic counselors from Prosper, Celina, and Gunter Independent School Districts refer students in need to Cornerstone NCT programs. Cornerstone NCT provides back-to-school assistance in July and serves about 350 kids every year. With this program, the kids get their exact school supplies, backpacks, name brand tennis shoes, and spirit wear, and they pick it up at a carnival we throw just for these families.

CORNERSTONE CHRISTMAS

Three hundred and fifty children, which represented 180 families, were served by Cornerstone Christmas in 2023. Toy drives supported by the community collect new items for the event’s “gift store.” Hosted at Hope Fellowship Prosper Campus, volunteers set up the store sectioned by price point. Parents and guardians enjoy the opportunity to choose gifts tailored for their child. Each child receives four new gifts varying in value from $15 to $60 each, a stocking full of trinkets, a new warm hoodie, and food for the 2-week break from school. The gifts are wrapped festively by volunteers and are ready to be placed under the Christmas tree available for participant families.

The increase in participants for Cornerstone Christmas requires great support from different channels. Community members can host a toy or hoodie drive, invest as an event sponsor, volunteer their time, and financially support Cornerstone Christmas or any of Cornerstone NCT’s annual programs.

PARTNER TO HOST A DRIVE OR SHOP FOR GIFTS

Your group or business can register to host a drive for Cornerstone Christmas items. Register to collect any or all the following items:

• Toys (6 years old & up)

• Stocking Stuffers

• Hoodies

• Gift Wrapping Essentials

SPREADING THE HOLIDAY JOY

SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS

Community members can help support Cornerstone Christmas by investing as an official event sponsor. Beginning at only $100, sponsors can direct their financial gift towards Bibles for families, family Christmas trees, or food for the family during the holiday break. There are options for every budget and sponsors receive spotlights on event advertising and the access to priority volunteer registration. For more information, contact Founder and Executive Director Jen Lutes at jen@cornerstonenct.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are always needed at Cornerstone NCT events. Cornerstone NCT needs the assistance of 700 volunteers in the process of gathering and organizing donations, preparing Hope Fellowship Prosper for the event, assisting parents and guardians in the shopping process, gift wrapping, and clean-up. For Cornerstone Christmas, volunteers should be at least 13 years old accompanied by an adult.

INVESTING YOUR MONEY IN NEIGHBORS

Your financial gift to Cornerstone NCT buys essentials and provides opportunities to improve the lives of your Neighbors. Your recurring monthly gift makes a big impact:

• $10 ($120/year) can keep a water bill on for a neighbor

• $20 ($240/year) pays for one family’s internet bill so they can continue working from home and/or look for work

• $50 ($600/year) provides 6 backpacks with school supplies

• $100 ($1,200/year) pays 5 water/gas bills, or provides 12 kids Christmas gifts

• $200 ($2,400/year) pays 10 water/gas bills, or provides 50 kids tennis shoes at the Back-to-School Event

• $500 ($6,000/year) pays a year’s worth of electric & internet bills

OTHER CORNERSTONE NCT ANNUAL EVENTS

Cornerstone NCT diligently works to connect neighbors with resources. This is facilitated by events throughout the year, and the community is invited to participate, support, and volunteer to make each a success.

• Easter - “Egg My Yard”

• Annual Comedy Night - The funds raised support vital programs like Case Management, Back-To-School Bash, Cornerstone Christmas, and aiding families facing unexpected challenges.

• Back-to-School Bash- registered students receive school-specific supplies, a fresh backpack, and a pair of snazzy new sneakers.

• Golf Classic - This highly anticipated sporting event for both men and women has been bringing golfers together for a good cause since 2010. The name of the game during this lighthearted tournament is not only to win but to raise funds for the projects and programs that benefit our local neighbors in need.

The UPS Store Celina Event Spotlight

Our local events are the heart of Celina. Andy “Hop” Hopkins, owner of The UPS Store, is highlighting some of Celina’s many local events on a monthly basis.

TOYS FOR TOTS

During the season of giving, nothing feels better than seeing the wonder in children’s eyes on Christmas morning. On December 11th, from 6pm to 9pm, join your friends and neighbors in helping make sure that all the children of our community and county have a Christmas to remember. The Marine Toys for Tots program is hosted locally for its fourth year by the Preston Trails Rotary, the City of Celina, the Celina Independent School District, and the American Legion Post 145.

CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE

Come be a part of one of our favorite traditions where the Celina’s Square is transformed into a winter wonderland. This free, family-friendly event feels like you are part of your own personal Hallmark movie with a parade, live music and caroling, a visit from Santa, and the lighting of the tree ceremony. Local vendors provide seasonal treats and unique gifts along with several boutiques right on the Square. The magic begins at 5pm on December 4th.

From our doorstep to yours, the UPS Store Celina with Andy Hopkins is connecting neighbors. We are looking forward to seeing you at Toys for Tots and Christmas on the Square!

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”

As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.

Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.

One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.

Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.

These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just

about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”

We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.

To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.

The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.com

that’s a WRAP

DIY Gift Wrapping That Stands Out During The Season

‘TIS

‘Tis the season to get crafty, clever or characterized! Well-wrapped holiday packages create immediate enthusiasm and somehow seem to make gifts more meaningful. Whether going for shiny, vintage, colorful, rustic, playful or eco-friendly impressions, the following are some Do-ItYourself gift-wrapping ideas to make the wrapping process even more satisfying. Simply applying jute twine to gifts provides a ‘less is more’ vibe.

ADD NATURAL TOUCHES TO CRAFT PAPER:

For gifts with a rustic, organic feel, use seasonal accents, such as sprigs, pine cones and cinnamon sticks, tied up with twine, encircling recycled paper for the wrapping.

FIRST INITIAL DECORATION:

In lieu of a gift tag, attach an oversized paper mâché letter of the recipient’s first initial to the top of the box. The letter then can serve as customized décor, too.

POLKA DOTS:

Wrap gifts in plain craft paper and then cut out big, multicolored polka dots to glue down. It’s hard not to smile at big, bright dots.

CARDBOARD BOX SNOWPERSON:

Wrap three or four boxes in white paper, with different gifts inside, and then stack them. Tape the boxes together, tapering to the top. Glue buttons on the bottom ones, create a snowperson’s face on the top one, with carrot nose cut out of orange paper.

‘tis the SEASON

Attach a real hat, if desired. Tie wider, festive bow around the snowperson’s ‘neck.’ Add a real corncob pipe for a bonus finishing touch, if preferred.

MINI TREE GIFT WRAPPING:

Pine needles and small tips of real tree branches make quick and easy mini Christmas trees that can be glued onto Christmas gifts. They will smell nice, too.

BOOK PAGE WRAPPING PAPER:

Repurpose old book pages by cutting out shapes of dreidels, snowflakes, ornaments, candles or reindeer to paste on gifts.

DIY STAMP WRAPPING PAPER:

Wrap gifts in solid colors of paper. Secure ink stamps and an ink pad in a themed color(s), and stamp the paper as much or as little as desired.

UNBOXED:

Apply other types of containers, rather than boxes or bags, for gift wrapping; examples:  canisters, pillow cases, baskets, fabric scraps, maps, glass containers, towels, blankets, scarves, Bento bags (also called triangle bags or origami bags).

Harrison Williams | Celina HS

OUTSTANDING STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Sponsored by Lamar National Bank

It is with great pleasure to announce the Outstanding Student Athlete of the Month as selected by the Celina Independent School District (CISD) Athletic Coaching Team. This month’s selection is Harrison Williams.

Harrison is a senior at Celina High School (CHS). He is a running back on the Varsity Football team and has received many honors for his efforts. For the 2023 season, Harrison was named All State Running Back, 4A Division One Offensive Player of the Year, All Area First Team Offense, All District Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP), Celina Offensive MVP, and given the Texas House of Representatives Good Sporting Behavior Award. He was also named All District Running Back in 2022.

His favorite memory playing for the Bobcats is the game against Anna his junior year. He states, “The atmosphere was electric, the stands were packed, and everyone was on edge the whole game. As we battled through multiple overtimes, every play mattered…

When we finally achieved the insane win, the crowd erupted and rushed the field. We all celebrated together knowing that we just made a memory that would last a lifetime.” He gives credit to his running back coach, Coach McCartney, for encouraging him to give 110% in all he does in life and to pay attention to the small details. Harrison says he’s proud to be a Bobcat and to represent the orange and white!

In addition to playing football, which he began playing in fourth grade, Harrison also runs track. In his free time, Harrison enjoys hunting, fishing, scuba diving, snow boarding, and hiking. After high school, Harrison plans on attending college and continuing to play football. Ultimately, he’d like to be a commercial pilot.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him! Congratulations to Harrison Williams and his selection as the December Outstanding Student Athlete of the Month!

LIGHT THE WORLD ONE BUTTON AT A TIME

“These gifts can range from a soccer ball given locally to chickens given to a family in need thousands of miles away.”

Have you ever felt like giving, helping, or serving but didn’t know how or where? This Christmas season, let us help you and your neighbors “Light the World"! Join us on December 4, 2024, at Celina’s Christmas on the Square, where The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will share ideas and opportunities for daily acts of service and love. Starting November 22, 2024 there will be three locations where community members can visit a Light the World “Giving Machine.” Like a vending machine, people can press a button and select items they'd like to donate. These gifts can range from a soccer ball given locally to chickens given to a family in need thousands of miles away. Not only have these donations brought joy but also jobs, warmth, shelter, clean water, and lots of love. You can find these Giving Machines in Grapevine, Frisco, and McKinney from November 22nd through Jan 1, 2025. Stop by the “Light the World” booth on December 4th at Christmas on the Square to find out more and experience the joy of serving others this Christmas season!

CONFECTION

Elevate your holiday hot chocolate with a charcuterie experience

As winter settles in and the air chills, there’s nothing more comforting than a steaming cup of hot chocolate. While a simple cup of hot cocoa can warm the soul, why not take it up a notch and indulge in a hot cocoa charcuterie board? Picture a delightful spread of various hot chocolate flavors, mix-ins, and toppings, inviting you to create a personalized, delicious mug of joy. Let’s explore the wonders of old-fashioned hot cocoa and all the accompaniments you can use to create your very own hot cocoa charcuterie board.

THE DELIGHTS OF OLD-FASHIONED HOT COCOA

Old-fashioned hot cocoa transports us to simpler times and brings with it a sense of nostalgia. The slow, traditional process of making hot chocolate from scratch – with real chocolate, milk and a touch of sweetness – provides a distinctly memorable experience for the holidays.

OLD-FASHIONED HOT COCOA

Ingredients

• ¼ cup 60% cacao chocolate morsels

• ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa

• 1/3 cup white granulated sugar

• 2 cups milk

• 2 cups half and half

• 1 pinch salt

• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Heat all ingredients (except vanilla extract) in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat until almost boiling. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

CREATING THE PERFECT HOT COCOA

CHARCUTERIE BOARD

Gone are the days of selecting only between marshmallows and whipped cream as toppings. With a hot cocoa charcuterie board, you can delve into a world of flavors, textures and spices that will make each sip an adventure, and serve as a sweet centerpiece to your holiday gatherings.

Begin by selecting a variety of flavors and mix-ins, such as mini marshmallows, salted caramels, white chocolate morsels and peppermints. Pair your hot cocoa with delectable treats like cookies, gum drops, crème-filled wafer rolls or chocolate-covered espresso beans. Consider adding biscotti, chocolate-dipped spoons or chocolate-coated pretzels as well as whipped toppings and an assortment of sprinkles.

VARIATIONS TO SAVOR

Indulge in some exciting recipes that are sure to elevate your hot chocolate into fun and festive beverages during the holidays and throughout the colder months.

MINTY FRESH WONDER

Embrace the festive season with a mint-infused hot cocoa. Fancify your beverage with a peppermint stick or make your

own crushed candy cane dust for a touch of holiday cheer. This minty delight is a crowd-pleaser and a perfect indulgence for cozy winter evenings.

SPICY AZTEC ELIXIR

Channel your inner adventurer with an Aztec-inspired hot cocoa. Infuse your drink with a touch of chili powder and a dash of cinnamon. Garnish with a cinnamon stick for a festive presentation. This fiery blend will ignite your senses and warm you from the inside out.

GROWN-UP GRASSHOPPER

Transform your drink into a rich adult-only grasshopper hot cocoa by adding 2 oz. of crème de menthe or a shot of peppermint schnapps. Adorn with a crushed candy cane rim for a playful offering.

DECADENT SALTED CARAMEL INDULGENCE

Elevate your hot cocoa experience with a drizzle of homemade salted caramel. The combination of slightly bitter cocoa and sweet, buttery caramel is a match made in heaven. Sprinkle an extra pinch of sea salt for that irresistible contrast.
