LETTER
Home, Sweet Home
“Home Is The Nicest Word There Is” – Laura Ingalls Wilder Home. From our newest residents to the natives of Celina, this "fastest growing city" deep in the heart of Texas is considered "home, sweet home".
For me, home means a combination of things. It’s a town, a physical dwelling space, the people and items within, and the sentiment those combine to create. The great Maya Angelou said it best, “The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
Home is a feeling of familiarity and warmth you can’t get anywhere else. The ease of knowing you’re with those who love you for you. I love the feeling of coming home in the afternoon. I change into sweats, put on my slippers, and sit down to finish the workday at the table in my kitchen while listening to my daughter's stories from her day. That is home for me.
This month we explore what makes home special to our readers. That includes beautiful aesthetics and design, the food and drinks we share, advice from home professionals, and most importantly – the people that turn a house into a home. We hope that this look into their lives and work will bring people in this community closer together.
Readers tell us they keep and display our magazine beyond the month of publication. It thrills us to know that our work is used as coffee table art, encouraging conversation between families and guests inside homes in our community. We feel so proud to create a resource valued by our neighbors, and we strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thank you, Celina, for letting us be a part of your home.
As always, thank you for reading and we'll see you around town!

Heart for Celina
How it all began...In 1999 we found 30 acres off Lone Star Road (County Road 175), and our dream to raise a family in this town began. Not long after we signed the contract to purchase the land, the Dallas Morning News came out with an article stating that Celina would eventually have a population of over 300,000 residents. This was really mind boggling to read because at the time, Celina only had around 1500 residents according to the sign on Preston Road. In 2002, we moved into a home we built where our sons could run, play, and use their imaginations — not knowing how much we would all come to love this town. I quickly began volunteering to meet other parents because I only knew one other person here. Our very first fall was spent watching the Celina Bobcats play football on Friday nights.
That just so happened to also be the year they were on a run to pass the state record of most consecutive wins. In addition, a documentary called Power, Passion, and Glory was filmed during the entire season, starting with the first practice through the final game. My weekly Friday routine included picking the kids up from school and taking them to every pep rally at the high school. Although we didn’t know any of the parents or kids playing on the 2002 team, we felt like we did and grew to love them as we cheered them on week after week. That was the year my sons began to bleed orange and wanted nothing more than to one day wear a varsity Celina football jersey.
Fast forward, my oldest son played on two of the teams that won state in 2005 and 2007. My younger two sons also played football in high school with one of them going to state in 2015 with the hope to bring home the 9th state win. Even though that wasn’t meant to be for his team, watching the entire town support and encourage the youth in Celina was magical and continues to be so. From 2002 through today we are Celina Bobcats. Some of my best friends in this extraordinary town are educators who pour into our children. As parents we rallied around our cubs and protected them from the outside world.
This city is about family, community and faith. Raising them here is hands down one of the best decisions I made as a parent. They learned about being a part of something larger than themselves and were taught about commitment, self-discipline, and respect. For those of you that are walking this path now, you are doing so in a very special place. I truly love telling families that are relocating here the story of Celina. It’s not just a place on a map, it is where you find true community.

2025 DESIGN TRENDS WITH TRISHA PUENTE
Trisha Puente, Humble Home Designs | (214) 934-9012 | trishaepuente@gmail.com
Earthy, Natural Tones
We’ve seen the bold grays and whites slowly fade out, and this year, you will see a lot more of the earthy, natural tones. We welcome back the cozy tans and browns, and instead of stark whites, we’ll see more of the creamy, softer tones.
Backsplash Trends
Deep, rich woods
Lighter wood tones aren’t going away, but this year, we’ll start to see more of the deep, dark, rich wood tones coming back, whether on flooring, cabinets, trim or furniture
Colordrenching
This trend has slowly been making its debut over the past couple of years, but I think we’ll see it come to fruition this year. It can be achieved in many ways, such as painting an entire room (walls, trim, and ceiling) in the same bold color. Another approach would be layering lots of repeated rich colors in the decor and textiles of a space.
We’re going to start seeing a lot more brick and slab backsplashes. Brick brings back that traditional classic look, and with so many color options, it’s pretty versatile and can complement any design style. A slightly more modern look is using the countertops as the backsplash. I love this look; it takes the stress out of choosing the perfect tile.
Statement lighting
Lighting hasn’t had a chance to shine with recent design trends. However, this year is all about statement lighting. No more boring lamps or light fixtures; it’s time to boldly make a statement.

OLIVIA CLARKE HOMES AT UPTOWN CELINA

Celina embodies the qualities that families seek when choosing a place to raise their children. The collaboration between city leaders and citizens inspires a sense of unity that aligns perfectly with Olivia Clarke Homes.
Uptown…
Just north of downtown Celina, a new neighborhood is emerging that offers a home style that is currently unavailable in the area. North Square at Uptown Celina, developed by Rockhill Capital Investments, features an exceptional community of paired homes These upscale residences balance modern luxury and the charm of Celina's rich county and agricultural history.
A paired home is a luxurious and spacious single-family attached residence ranging from 2,100 to 2,500 square feet. Typically, townhomes are found in housing blocks of four, which consist of two spacious end units and two center units that share primary side walls. Duplexes, on the other hand, are single buildings divided into two separate living units and are usually owned by a single owner. In contrast, paired homes allow each unit to be individually owned, despite sharing a common center wall. Each paired home is individually platted, featuring unique entrances, garages, and private yards.
Jennifer Johnson is the founder and president of Olivia Clarke Homes, one of the nation’s first female-led homebuilding companies. Her company has been recognized with three awards at the 2022 and 2023 Dallas
Builders Association McSAM Awards. Jennifer is dedicated to designing and building homes that meet the needs of women and families. Jennifer notes, "Today, 91% of home-buying decisions are made by women." With this in mind, her homes prioritize storage and functional design. Innovative design ensures that the square footage is utilized effectively, allowing the home to feel more spacious and accommodating to how families want to live.
Jennifer and her company are currently involved in developments in Frisco at The Fields, as well as in Aubrey. However, Jennifer has truly fallen in love with Celina. She appreciates the area's charm, the strong sense of community, and the shared pride among the residents. The homes at North Square at Uptown Celina attract both new families and empty nesters looking to downsize. They serve as perfect bookends for different stages of family life. With multiple flexible floorplans available, these homes feature options for a primary bedroom and bathroom either upstairs

for younger families or downstairs for seniors aging in place. These low-maintenance residences are designed with open layouts, high-end finishes, and thoughtful features that maximize space, functionality, and ease of living. The exterior designs of the homes reflect Celina's historical roots, showcasing styles reminiscent of the country setting and early bungalow architecture.
Affordability has been a priority for the team, with home prices starting in the $450,000s. The neighborhood boasts many amenities, including walking paths, open spaces with natural landscaping, and a community center. The Homeowners Association dues are intentionally set at $85 per month. If you don’t already own a golf cart, you may consider getting one when moving to Uptown. The community's close proximity to downtown Celina, along with nearby shopping, restaurants, events, and festivals, make it a walkable area ideal for golf cart transportation.
This spring, Olivia Clarke Homes will introduce a new community called The Heights at Uptown, located across the way for move-up buyers. These single-family homes range in size from 1,900 to 3,800 square feet and will offer three to five bedrooms, starting in the low $500,000s. Each home features an open-concept design with spacious living areas, gourmet kitchens equipped with oversized islands, large primary suites, and flexible spaces for various uses. The Heights will offer resort-style amenities, including pools, a pavilion, walking and biking trails, and community parks.
Incentives and move-in offers are regularly updated as the inventory changes. Jennifer encourages anyone interested in relocating to Uptown to reach out to the sales manager, Diane Walker, for the latest information.

Craft Cocktail Bartender, Wilborn Blalock, Brings Celina Into Its HEYDAY
PERFECTING
HIS CRAFT
Wilborn Blalock is a rising star in Celina’s burgeoning after-hours scene. While born in Houston, he moved to Los Angeles when he was two and spent his most formative years as a prototypical product of the scene: sun, sports, cooking, movies, and the like. His father was in the music industry, so he had access to “artsy” folks from the start; buskers, actors, designers, and animators all contributed as creative influences on his life. His mother, from Mississippi, instilled a traditional Southern focus on the role of cooking in family life. He spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing meals and making memories and sought to
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS FOR CREATING A SIGNATURE COCKTAIL?
As I mentioned, the principles of creating a dish in the kitchen and a cocktail in the bar are very similar. You are layering and balancing flavors: sweet and sour, acidity and smoothness, etc. You can really view a cocktail in the same way you do an entree. Think of the spirit as a protein. To that, you add sugars for sweetness, citrus for acidity, and herbs and oils for bitterness and spice; balance is the key. You iterate the formula to make sure that nothing outshines anything else. It’s like conducting a symphony.
combine those early creative influences with his passion for cooking into a career as a chef. Along the way, Wil discovered the wonderful world of craft cocktails and has been perfecting the practice ever since. Since coming home to Texas in 2015, he has found his home on the Square, collaborating with Anthony, Michael, and Joey to help do his part to bring Celina into its Heyday!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY?
Cooking has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in the kitchen with my mom, and it was really something I loved. I saw myself as a chef and started out doing kitchen work professionally. At about twenty, I got a job as a barback and fell in love with the culture. I applied the knowledge I learned in the kitchen to making drinks. Cooking and craft cocktails share a lot of the same principles. I loved creating things from sratch in-house and cross-pollinating with the kitchen.
“THE PRINCIPLES OF CREATING A DISH IN THE KITCHEN AND A COCKTAIL IN THE BAR ARE VERY SIMILAR. YOU ARE LAYERING AND BALANCING FLAVORS: SWEET AND SOUR, ACIDITY AND SMOOTHNESS, ETC. YOU CAN REALLY VIEW A COCKTAIL IN THE SAME WAY YOU DO AN ENTREE”
HOW DO YOU STAY UPDATED ON THE LATEST TRENDS IN CRAFT COCKTAILS?
It’s important to keep up-to-date, but not always for the reason you think. I’ve always had this motto: be unapologetically original. I’m always trying to be left or right of common. It’s important to know what everyone else is doing so you can maintain that edge. But it’s also important to keep up with trends in the kitchen and food as well. Cocktails are a complement to our menu. That said, it’s fun to partake in the cocktail culture in Dallas. Places like the Tipsy Alchemist are great to visit and see how other professionals are doing their thing. You always pick up tricks and get to have a good time while doing it. You never steal something outright, but you constantly adapt and absorb.
HOW DO YOU ENSURE CONSISTENT QUALITY AND PRESENTATION IN YOUR DRINKS?
Training and practice are key. It’s not just being a bartender; it’s being part of a program integrated into the entire establishment, front and back of the house. How quickly and accurately you execute doesn’t just affect people at the bar but diners and staff alike. Being dialed into recipes from the front to the back of the house helps you craft cocktails that leverage and integrate with the flavors coming out of the kitchen. We share a lot of the same ingredients. Quality hires are a must. We have arguably the best team in the business.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DRINK AND WHY?
I’m going to have to go with the Naked & Famous. It’s everything a good cocktail should be. It’s equal parts mezcal, Aperol, lime, and yellow chartreuse.
The drink hits every note: bitter, herbaceous, citrus and the star, mezcal! Choosing a great mezcal is important. Something big and smoky makes or breaks the drink. We pour Del Maguey Vida and it’s fantastic for mixing cocktails.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO OUTSIDE OF CRAFTING INNOVATIVE COCKTAILS?
Well, it’s no secret now that I love to cook. When you work all day, often very long hours, serving other folks, it’s nice to come home and really take care of yourself. Even though I’m around kitchens and bars all day, I just love the craft of cooking. It’s hard to beat wine and a nice dinner with your favorite person. One of my favorites is a truffle mushroom risotto, but cooking from the heart, whether you are grilling something simple or trying something new, really takes you away. And seeing people's faces when they eat what you made is really special. I also like checking out other places and supporting peers in the industry.
BLINDS OF CHANGE
“It’s a people business, so I don’t sub stuff out for others to do. I want to create a brand that grows alongside this area and be a part of the community.”
FROM ARMY LIFE TO SHADES BUSINESS
ARTICLE BY KATELYN BRISCOE
Local Frank Giunta never imagined he’d be running a blinds and shades business, but after a series of unexpected turns in life, that’s precisely where he found success. As the proud owner of a company growing faster than he could have anticipated, Frank’s story is one of adaptability, perseverance, and a touch of surprise.
Out of high school, Frank went to school for architecture, but when he didn’t have the funds to finish school, he did what any sensible guy would do, he dropped out and signed up for the military. He joined the Army, thinking he was signing up for a good time. Instead, Frank says, he got a pretty swanky career.
After a fulfilling 23 years as an intelligence officer in the Army, Frank’s life was poised to take another turn. With retirement on the horizon, he and his wife Abby settled in Prosper, TX, ready to embrace a new chapter. But when it came time to ask himself, ‘What’s next?’ Frank was far from expecting what lay ahead.
“If you just said shades, blinds, and curtains and some of that, I'd tell you, ‘You're crazy; what are you talking about?’” Frank said.
Hailing from New York, Frank never planned on ending up in Texas but says that moving here with his wife was meant to be.
“You always have these plans, but life just takes you where you should go,” Frank said.
When Frank moved into their home in Prosper, he was eager to make it his own— including installing shades. But when the quote came back at $8,000, Frank was taken aback. “I’m a retired Army guy, not a millionaire,” he thought, clearly feeling the sticker shock of something that seemed essential but out of reach.
At this point, Frank’s military mindset kicked in. He knew there had to be a solution and was determined to find one. He started researching the blinds market, uncovering how many middlemen were involved and how astronomically inflated the prices were.
“That’s one thing: I’m not a salesman. I’m helping people fulfill their needs: Do you need blinds? I got blinds.”
“There’s gotta be a better way,” he thought. That’s when Frank began to consider starting his own business. He decided to order some parts and try it himself.
“So, I did that, and I had a couple of friends in the neighborhood who were interested in getting shades and screens. I was like, “Hey, you'll be my pilot program. I'm gonna start this business and do yours for cost and my money.”
Frank says he started working on the supply chain over the summer, and his business went live in October 2024. Since then, he says his company has taken off. He says he has not done much for marketing to get there, but his locally sourced, affordable alternatives without sacrificing quality or craftsmanship are hard to pass up.
“Part of it is I enjoy giving people the ability to have something they can use when they want to host and have fun with their families,” Frank said. “You shouldn't have to make six figures to get some cool shades. I feel like a little thing like having some nice blinds or the back screen coming down when it's raining out is a cool feature, and it's that pride of ownership. I enjoy helping people get that, and my customer service is second to none.”
For Frank, business isn’t just about selling products. It’s about building relationships. He brings the same commitment to service that defined his military career, ensuring every customer feels valued and supported.
“How I was brought up as a professional in the Army, business is about people,” Frank said. “It's a people business, so I don't sub stuff out for others to do. I want to create a brand that grows alongside this area and be a part of the community.”
From serving his country to serving his community, Frank has found purpose in helping people in a genuine and grounded way. With his straightforward, people-first mentality, Frank is building a business and a brand that is genuinely part of the Celina & Prosper community.
“I'm just being an honest broker, and I think it's refreshing,” Frank said. “That's one thing: I'm not a salesman. I'm helping people fulfill their needs: Do you need blinds? I got blinds.”

NEW YEAR,
Most people approach the doctor's office with trepidation and nervousness. After all, white-coat hypertension is real. About 1 in 5 people experience higher blood pressure in a medical setting than at home, work, or just walking down the street. Being in a healthcare setting can trigger a person's "fight-or-flight" response.
"Walking into our new office has a completely different feel than any place I have practiced in the past," says Oleta Schranz, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, owner of Preston Family Healthcare. At the beginning of the year, Oleta and her team, alongside Dr. Shane Brown with Celina Total Foot Care, moved to their new offices at 209 South Preston Road. The office is situated in the new Doe Branch Office Park, just south of Pecan Street on Preston Road and minutes from downtown Celina. It was developed by Doe Branch Partners, with phase one breaking ground in December 2022. They are excited to share it with their friends and patients. Oleta shares, "I have practiced in Celina since 2018 but never in my own space that I could design and plan the patient experience."
A new practice office does not just happen; this has been a three-year journey for Oleta and her design and build team. Sometimes, it has been an actual labor of love, and other times, it has been the biggest challenge of

her life. She has worked tirelessly with Ben Hangartner, CEO of HBA Design and Build, a full-service construction services firm local to Celina, Donny Knightstep of K4 General Construction & Roofing, who acted as the General Contractor, and Kim Roulet, a great friend and owner of A Redesigned Life. This dream team worked hard, encouraged, and helped Oleta's dreams across the finish line. Oleta shares, "I was unprepared for how many choices need to be made in the building process. I would get so overwhelmed that I came to the point where I asked my team to just ‘bring me three choices.'"
Finally, bringing her vision to life, Oleta wanted to offer her patients an environment that reflected the country environment residents of Celina value, and a comfortable, homey feeling everyone could relate to. Walking into the lobby, you are greeted by a clean, uncluttered environment of blues, grays, and warm tones making it accessible. The extensive millwork and wainscoting lend to the feeling of cozy sophistication. After sharing offices with other practices for years, Oleta explains, "It feels like my own space - like I have been living with my parents, and I finally moved out."
The new offices are about 2,500 square feet, an increase of 1,000 square feet from her previous offices. The move has allowed them to have eight exam rooms, a dedicated lab space, and an open, comfortable waiting room. Since opening in 2018, Oleta and her team have focused on managing and preventing Type 2 diabetes as well as several chronic conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and heart disease. However, as a small-town provider, her practice has migrated to examining a person's and family's whole health, genetic factors, and behavioral health.
With the expanded office space, the team at Preston Family Healthcare will be able to accommodate more patients and add additional staff to focus on primary care, preventative care, and weight management. The team's focus has always been on preventative health. Still, they are excited to offer clinic space to visiting specialists who would not usually be able to come into the community until the medical centers and services are more developed. The advantage of having a blood draw and EKG done locally instead of driving to Frisco is a pure benefit to the community. Still, local access to a cardiologist, orthopedic specialist, or pulmonologist benefits all Celina residents. While still working out the
details, the upcoming months and years of partnerships should prove exciting to the community. You should follow Preston Family Healthcare on social media to stay updated on changes in additional clinic hours and visiting clinicians.
One unexpected opportunity resulting from the new space has been the ability to partner with the expanded Health Sciences Education program at Collin College and the Celina Independent School District. She provides students in high school the chance to shadow the team and gain experience through the Patient Care Technician (PCT) program. Additionally, she promotes expanded educational opportunities for Collin College students entering the nursing field and established LVNs and RNs seeking further training.
After seven years of practice in the Celina community, Oleta has seen hundreds of ways it cares for its citizens. From care for seniors to disaster response, reduced-price student physicals, well-child
checks and vaccine clinics, and hosting local blood drives, Celina citizens always show up in significant and small ways. As a community medical provider, Oleta said, "I love that I get to be part of that." Preston Family Healthcare continues to be a drop location for Helping Hands of Celina and is active in the Celina Chamber of Commerce to help many local families in need.
Suppose you are looking for the easter egg. In that case, you should check out the remarkable mural in the reception area, where Oleta wanted to pay homage to the history of farming and ranching in the Celina area. Whether you are a current patient or looking for something new in your health journey, the team at Preston Family Healthcare is here for you.
“I love that I get to be part of that.”

TEXAS NATIVESCAPES

Grassroot Revival Of Your Lawn By Native-Born Texan, Paul Rowan
Texas is known for its historic battles, but perhaps one of the biggest conflicts for Texans is that between themselves and their lawn and garden. Trying to maintain a lush, green lawn in the dog days of summer is next to impossible with the extreme heat. Likewise, frequent droughts and unpredictable winters make lawn care a challenge. There is a solution to this fight – replacing your thirsty lawn with resilient Texas native perennials that will survive and thrive in our challenging Texas climate.
Texas Nativescapes, owned and operated by landscape designer Paul Rowan, is your answer for beautiful outdoor natural landscaping. Paul and his team specialize in Texas and Southwestern horticulture, creating native gardens and landscaping for low-maintenance, water-friendly, contemporary, unique, sustainable outdoor solutions.
Paul is driven by his deep love of nature, having grown up in Texas and from his travels in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. These experiences cultivated his passion for creating beautiful, timeless outdoor spaces and gardens. Paul’s gardens and landscape environments are ecologically sustainable and meticulously formed from natural elements, providing bold accents, textures, colors, and modern styles. Paul says, “We are truly the ’outsiders’ making distinctive and environmentally friendly landscapes, unlike others.”
There are many reasons to consider using Texas Nativescapes. First, they use water-smart,
drought-tolerant landscaping. Many towns and cities implement water restrictions due to drought conditions making adequate lawn care difficult. Texas Nativescapes follows the stringent methods of renowned Texas A&M Horticulture, using native plants for ecological, resilient Texas gardens. As a result, you will have lower water bills plus a beautiful, thriving garden and landscape that will survive “our crazy climate conditions and challenging Texas weather fluctuations,” says Paul.
According to Paul, Celina, Gunter, and surrounding areas, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) categorized them as a transitional region near the Red River; therefore, we recommend plants suitable for USDA growing hardiness Zone 7. This is important because “you need to know what can grow and thrive here,” Paul notes. “We specialize in climate-appropriate plants which are Texas native plants and adaptive plants, appropriate for our USDA growing zone,” he continues.
Knowing the USDA zone points to the second reason why you should use Texas Nativescapes: soil. Frankly, most people don’t even think about their soil, but Paul argues it is crucial to your landscaping and gardening. Having learned from his mentor, Malcolm Beck (the Father of
Organic Gardening), Paul is very soil conscientious, using only the finest organic flower bedding soils in North Texas. Texas Nativescapes uses a raised bed method with proper drainage and irrigation systems. The poor soil profiles in our region are due to the massive temperature swings. Using organic raised flower beds is a better method for protecting gardens, your pets, and children, as well as retention ponds, lakes, and other water bodies consumed by animals. “We are environmentally friendly to soils because we are all-natural, using no chemicals. We are kid and pet-friendly as well,” says Paul. As the Texas Nativescapes website states, “We are rooted in ‘Texas by Nature’.” Paul’s company is designed to create “holistically timeless native gardens that are bio-diversified and environmentally sound,” and the first way to do this is through the soil.
With over 25 years of horticulture, research and Texas gardening experience, Paul acquired vast knowledge about which essential nutrients are necessary to replenish our depleted soils. He pioneered with other passionate and like-minded folks in cultivating strong alliances and strategic partnerships with Texas’ best organic soil companies who produce his unique custom soil blends. Paul jokingly referred to his flower bedding soil as "Pauly's Happy Soil ." It's super soil that grows everything you plant in it. His sourcing network and alliances extend across the Lone Star State with the industry's best quality landscaping companies and purveyors of native landscaping materials.
To reiterate, Texas Nativescapes is environmentally friendly, not just for water conservation and nature by using no chemicals, but it is also pollinator friendly, aiding bees, birds, and butterflies. “We follow organic philosophies and pride ourselves on having a fully customized and tailored organic bedding mix,” said Paul. “We just try to build
quality landscapes that are environmentally conscientious,” he continued.
In addition to gardens and landscaping, Texas Nativescapes provide many other outdoor solutions. The company offers architectural landscape lighting, segmented concrete pavers, outdoor kitchens, native perennial gardens, and stormwater management and drainage solutions. Their pavers are highly specialized and custom-made with masonry stone to make beautiful pathways.
Paul Rowan is a Native-born Texan defining himself as a genuine nature person growing up exploring Texas, hiking, camping and fishing along the creeks and tributaries around the DFW Metroplex. He draws inspiration from areas including Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and the Southwest. While he has been in the business for over twenty-five years, he wanted to return to his “grassroots” (no pun intended) to Celina, where he spent time as a child in the North Texas area enjoying the vast open spaces he remembers. Having spent over two decades traveling the world from Europe to South Asia, Paul can apply this knowledge to collaborate with clients to create native, holistic designs for the people of North Texas.
Now is the time to end the battle between you and your lawn and gardening dilemmas, go native, and discover your roots with Texas Nativescapes. You belong outdoors in a peaceful, natural setting. Invite Paul Rowan and Texas Nativescapes to create amazing sustainable outdoor experiences with drought-resistant, water-wise landscape or garden solutions custom-tailored for you and your lifestyle.

The Wierick Family
A proud 7th-generation Texan, I’ve called Celina home for the past 10 years, alongside my husband, Nate, and our two boys, Cooper (14) and Sutton (12). Growing up, I moved around a lot, so finding a place to plant roots was important. Celina captured my heart with its sense of community, and I love that my boys, now in 6th and 8th grades, still have friendships that began at Celina Christian Preschool.
My passion for photography began when Cooper was born. I bought my first camera and taught myself the craft through trial and error. While working in banking, I spent evenings and weekends building my portfolio. When we moved to Celina in 2014, I offered unique mini-sessions to meet new clients and friends, and my business quickly took off. It wasn’t long
before I transitioned into full-time photography, leaving the corporate world behind.
When I’m not behind the camera capturing families, kiddos, cheer squads, football teams, and Santa Claus, I’m cheering on the Wierick boys in their activities. I also stay busy by managing a successful aesthetics practice in Dallas two days a week. Juggling multiple roles has been my norm for years, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Celina isn’t just where I live—it’s where I’ve built a life I love, surrounded by amazing people and friends.
Let’s go BOBCATS!

LOCAL PROGRAM FOR RESCUED HORSES AT WINDY HILL EQUINE RESCUE & REHOMING
SPONSOR A HORSE
“A big part of my mission is raising awareness of the abuse surrounding horses. Over 90% of horses sent through an average auction are purchased by kill buyers. I’ve had horses my entire life and was not aware of the tragic end many horses suffer. Awareness is number 1. Animal welfare lovers should be interested in supporting a no-kill rescue and we need compassionate partners to support the care and welfare of our rescues.”
ARTICLE BY NIKI CARBAJAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF WINDY HILL EQUINE RESCUE & REHOMING
Meet Daisy, a Palomino mare who was rescued from an Oklahoma kill lot in February 2021. Daisy was clearly sick and completely emaciated. Although only two years old, Daisy was in foal, and six weeks after her rescue, she foaled a beautiful but small sorrel colt. Her colt, Duke, was born healthy on March 25th of 2021. Without the assistance of a rescue organization like WindyHill Equine Rescue & Rehoming, horses like Daisy and Duke find themselves on kill lots in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana awaiting shipment outside of the U.S. for slaughter.
Becky Shewchuk, Founder and Managing Director of WindyHill Equine Rescue & Rehoming, is a lifelong horsewoman who was exposed to the tragedy of kill lots in 2012. Unable to rest with the knowledge that an estimated 90% of horses headed to slaughter are deemed useable by the USDA, Becky established a non-profit organization dedicated to saving some of these horses and permanently rehoming them with loving, responsible owners. She knew she needed a plan and began to work on her horsemanship skills. She created a program based on training and retraining horses for natural horsemanship. In 2018, she graduated from the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program through Level 4, their highest recognized level. Through her rescue program, she recognized that there were many horses with soundness issues that were not good for riding, yet they had much to offer. Always interested in how the horse relates to people and equine therapy, she became certified in EAGALA in June 2020 as an Equine Specialist. She formed 4 Hooves for Hearts, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation, to offer
equine therapy to the community using WindyHill Equine Rescue & Rehoming horses as therapy horses.
Once rescued horses arrive at WindyHill, they are quarantined from the rest of the animals, evaluated by medical professionals, administered any necessary antibiotics, vaccinated, dewormed, and have their feet trimmed. Once the horses are able, and if they are sound, Becky and her trainers begin training or restart them as needed. The horses are then classified as “adoptable” and/or “sponsorship”. Adoptable horses can be matched with an appropriate owner where extensive discussions and evaluations are part of the adoption process ensuring the horse matches the owner’s needs and expectations. WindyHill will have five horses available for adoption in Spring 2025.
Horses marked as “sponsorship” are often not sound for riding and are, therefore, less likely to be adopted. WindyHill Rescue & Rehoming began the Sponsor A Horse program to help alleviate the $300-$400 per month per horse, food, and housing expenses of horses unavailable for adoption. A donor’s $100 per month gift contributes to the expenses and allows the donor to spend time with “their” sponsored horse. Once becoming a donor, the donor can schedule an appointment to spend time with a specific horse without the responsibility of ownership. WindyHill can help match Sponsor A Horse donors with a specific horse to fit the age and personality of the donor. For more information, email WindyHillEquineRescue@ gmail.com or visit windyhillequinerescue.org.

KEY SECRETS FOR A SPARKLING HOME
A SPRING KIND OF CLEAN
TIP #1 Freshen up the Kitchen
A fresh, clean kitchen impacts the entire home. To freshen up the sink, Kim says, “Run hot water while pouring in equal parts of baking soda and white vinegar through the disposal. Follow with a few drops of blue Dawn Dishwashing soap to cut away any grease buildup. Sharpen the disposal blades by running cooler water and ice through it. For a fresh smell, grind a few slices of lemon, lime or orange, removing any seeds first.”
To clean everything else in the kitchen, including counters and stainless-steel appliances, use a microfiber cloth and a solution of 2-3 drops of Dawn mixed with water.
TIP #2 Spruce up the Living Room
The living room also deserves special attention. Kim says, “Start by pulling furniture away from the walls, vacuuming and dusting behind it. Make sure you dust air vents as well. Then, pull all of the furniture cushions off to vacuum underneath and in crevices. It’s always good to rotate and fluff cushions too.”
To banish dust from your furniture, Kim suggests using a good microfiber cloth that is slightly damp instead of furniture polish, which can leave a build-up on furniture that actually attracts dust.
TIP #3 Brighten up Windows
Brighten up your whole home by intentionally focusing on the windows. “Homeowners often forget about the inside of the window,” says Kim. “They dust the blinds or the shutters, but when the blinds are pulled up, the windows often have dust or a film on them.” Kim suggests cleaning the inside of the windows on a cloudy day to reduce streaks. “A good glass cleaner with a microfiber cloth works really well. If you still have streaks, try using a little bit of rubbing alcohol.”
INNOVATION MEETS
ARTISTRY
Kitchen design has entered a transformative era, where innovation meets artistry to create spaces that are not only functional but also personal and sustainable. With advancements in technology, materials and craftsmanship, today’s kitchens are tailored to meet the evolving needs and tastes of homeowners.
According to interior designer Laura McCroskey, kitchens today are about more than just cooking—they’re an expression of personal lifestyle.

ARTICLE BY ALLISON SWAN
“Kitchen design has entered an exciting time where the possibilities feel limitless,” says McCroskey. “For me, the design process starts before lines are ever drawn on a construction document. I believe in creating spaces that enhance life, both functionally and aesthetically. The design process begins with a discussion about what a space needs to do, and what aesthetic will bring a spark to the homeowner.
I also firmly believe that when designing a kitchen, one should walk out a recipe to make sure everything is in the right place to suit one’s lifestyle. Cooking zones are imperative to a well-designed kitchen.”
Modern kitchens emphasize zoning, or the creation of dedicated areas for preparation, cooking and storage, to enhance workflow and functionality. These zones not only improve efficiency but also contribute to a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic.
Cutting-edge rendering software, utilizing technology similar to that used in gaming, allows homeowners to visualize their dream kitchens in hyper-realistic detail. While these tools inspire creativity, McCroskey advises balancing ambitious ideas with practical implementation to achieve the best results.
Technology, sustainability and customization are driving the revolution in kitchen design. Advanced appliances are at the forefront, enhancing convenience while aligning with a growing emphasis on eco-friendliness.
“From vacuum-sealing drawers that preserve food and reduce waste to smart appliances controlled by your phone, the emphasis is on efficiency and sustainability. Functional storage built seamlessly into marble countertops and oversized workstation sinks are making daily tasks easier and more enjoyable. Thoughtful features like composting compartments
THE HEART OF THE HOME
and advanced food preservation methods reflect a broader effort to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact.”
Custom cabinetry that maximizes every inch of space minimizes waste while optimizing functionality.
“Forget the limits of traditional cabinetry. Blind corners, tiny nooks and hidden areas are now designed to maximize storage. Automated drawers and pop-up outlets are becoming increasingly common, marrying convenience with sleek aesthetics.”
Design trends have also evolved, becoming more flexible to reflect individual tastes.
“While white kitchens remain timeless and black adds drama, bleached woods continue to be popular. Style trends are no longer as rigid—whether you prefer modern, transitional, or traditional designs, you can create a kitchen tailored to your unique vision. There’s no limit to what you can achieve with today’s tools and technologies. The goal is to create spaces that resonate deeply with the people who live in them.”
The kitchen is the heart of every home and represents a space of endless possibility. Whether your aesthetic leans modern, farmhouse or somewhere in between, the tools and technologies available today make it easier than ever to bring your vision to life.
Back To Back Spirit State Champs
typically comes with competing at the highest level, our cheerleaders were also faced with the pressure of making history. No school in Texas had ever won state in all three Friday Night Lights disciplines in the same school year. Not only did they clinch the title and make history, but they also won first place in all three categories: crowd leading, band chant, and fight song.
The cheerleading team's performance brings pride to Celina High School and inspires the community. Their success reflects the strength of the school's programs and the dedication of its students and coaching staff. As the cheerleaders continue to build on their legacy, they exemplify the spirit and determination that define Celina High School.
The Celina High School cheerleading program led by Coach Julie Hall has successfully secured back-to-back UIL Spirit State Championships. They clinched their first 4A Division II title in 2022 and, after finishing in the top five in the state in 2023, have taken gold in 4A Division 1 ever since.
This accomplishment underscores the team's dedication, rigorous training, quality coaching, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Earlier this school year, both band and football celebrated state championships. Despite the incredible pressure that

Building the Perfect Bouquet
Valentine’s Day can be celebrated in many ways. Some people choose to go out for dinner and a movie, others hire a private chef for a romantic meal at home, some buy chocolates and find a fun activity in town, and some couples go out of town for an exciting getaway! One Valentine’s Day staple is giving a bouquet of flowers to someone special. Flowers are the gift that say I love you and can be given to your spouse, children, and mom. As a child, my father always got me roses on Valentine’s Day until I met my husband and he took over the tradition. A bouquet of flowers can say many things as each flower has a different meaning. If you’re wanting to say something special to the ones you love this Valentine’s Day, take a look at our list of three popular flowers, what they mean, and what flowers to pair them with.
Roses
LOVE & ROMANCE
Roses are by far the most popular flower to give on Valentine’s Day. They are beautiful by themselves or you can add Baby’s Breath to enhance the bouquet. These two make a romantic bouquet and are the perfect flowers to give to someone special.
Lilies
PURITY & FERTILITY
Lilies come in a variety of colors and are eye-catching! For a softer looking bouquet, pair your lilies with carnations. These two combined are fun and heartwarming and are a great gift for anyone.
Tulips
PERFECT FOR DEEP LOVE
A bouquet of tulips will brighten any space! Adding some Ranunculus, also known as buttercup, will complement the tulips wonderfully. These flowers have a refreshing look that will decorate any home beautifully in a crystal vase.
