Health + Fitness
January marks a new chapter—a fresh start to refocus on what truly matters: our health and well-being. With the whirlwind of the holidays behind us, now is the perfect time to prioritize self-care and set meaningful intentions for the year ahead.
This month, Centennial City Lifestyle is dedicated to Health and Fitness, spotlighting the incredible local businesses and experts guiding us toward healthier, happier lives. Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with many inspiring health and wellness professionals in Centennial. From gyms and weightloss centers to skincare specialists and hormone health experts, their knowledge and passion are remarkable.
In a world full of noise—from social media trends to fad diets—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But here in our community, we have trusted experts ready to help you live your best life. Health isn’t one-size-fits-all; it’s about tuning in to your body’s unique needs and finding what works for you.
For me, health and fitness go beyond just exercise—they’re about balance, joy, and progress. My “gym fam” has been a source of motivation, reminding me that wellness starts with one simple choice: to keep going. It’s about showing up for yourself, making small, meaningful choices, and building on them each day.
In this issue, we’re excited to share insights from Centennial’s top health businesses, including:
• Radiant skin tips from Beautiful Face and Body.
• Nutrition advice for peak performance from IV Nutrition and Infamous Physique.
• Support for young athletes from Team Speed.
• Even health tips for your pets from Scenthound
From the inside out, health is a journey worth investing in—for ourselves, our families, and even our furry friends.
Join Us! Kick off the new year at our first monthly community meetup on January 16th, 3–6 PM at Ladrón Cellars. Meet fellow readers, myself, and our amazing partners while enjoying a fun afternoon and connecting. Every month we will switch up the venue so if you would like to nominate the next location, reach out! Check out Ladrón's ad and scan the QR code for more details and make sure to follow @CentennialCityLifestyle on Instagram for more to come!
Here’s to embracing this year with the intention to live well and love the process. Cheers to your health, fitness, and a fantastic New Year!

the CITY LIST
We have such amazing, innovative business leaders in our community who are proud to serve you, our residents, with class and quality. We’ve compiled some of our top company picks for the services that might be on your mind this month in an effort to make your lives a little easier.
When it comes to building muscle and reducing body fat, proper nutrition is just as important as your workout routine. What you eat fuels your progress, supports recovery, and helps maximize the results you’re working hard to achieve. One of the most crucial components of your diet is protein, which plays a key role in muscle growth and repair. To help you navigate the complexities of fitness nutrition, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions that will guide your dietary choices and ensure you’re fueling your body for success.
KEY NUTRITION TIPS FOR GETTING BACK INTO FITNESS
“EVERY SMALL CHANGE YOU MAKE ADDS UP, SO LET YOUR FOOD BE THE FUEL THAT DRIVES YOUR RESULTS.”
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED PROTEIN INTAKE FOR ADULTS?
Dos: Aim for at least 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight. For those looking to build muscle, it’s often recommended to increase this to about 0.5 to 0.9 grams per pound, depending on your workout intensity and goals.
Don'ts: Avoid drastically cutting calories or protein in the belief that it will lead to quicker fat loss. Sustainable and healthy weight loss should prioritize balanced nutrition.
HOW CAN I INCORPORATE MORE PROTEIN INTO MY MEALS
Dos: Add protein-rich snacks like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or hard-boiled eggs to your diet. Protein powders can also be a convenient solution—try adding vanilla-flavored protein to your coffee instead of creamers to boost your intake.
Don'ts: Don’t overlook the importance of whole food sources. Relying solely on protein shakes instead of real food may cause nutrient deficiencies.
SHOULD I EAT BEFORE OR AFTER MY WORKOUT?
Dos: Consume a balanced meal with protein and complex carbohydrates about 1-3 hours before your workout. Postworkout, aim for a mix of protein and carbs to aid recovery. A protein shake with a banana can be highly effective.
Don'ts: Avoid heavy meals immediately before exercising, as they can lead to discomfort and hinder performance.
WHAT ARE GOOD SOURCES OF PROTEIN?
Dos: Focus on lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish), plant-based proteins (lentils, chickpeas, tofu), and dairy products. Eggs and protein-rich grains like quinoa are also excellent options.
Don'ts: Stay clear of highly processed protein sources that may be loaded with sugar and unhealthy fats.
IS IT OKAY TO SNACK WHILE TRYING TO LOSE FAT?
Dos: Yes! Healthy snacks can keep your energy levels stable. Opt for nuts, seeds, or veggie sticks with hummus to support your fitness goals.
Don'ts: Avoid high-calorie, low-nutrient snacks like chips or sugary treats that can lead to overeating and sabotage your progress.

She analyzes your body type, BMI, and metabolism to create your individualized fitness and nutrition plan. With years of success and experience, she, along with her Certified Personal Trainers, will develop a workout routine, meal plan, and overall strategy for achieving your fitness goals. They will help you see results sooner than going at it alone. Helping you avoid injury, lose fat, gain muscle, and break through plateaus. Showing you how to set realistic goals, hold you accountable, and challenge you to be better, all in a safe, private by appointment training gym.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE CARBOHYDRATES IN MY DIET?
Dos: Carbohydrates are crucial for energy, particularly if you’re engaging in regular workouts. Choose complex carbs such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables for sustained energy.
Don'ts: Don't fear carbs entirely; cutting them out can negatively impact performance and recovery. Instead, focus on the quality and portion sizes.
HOW CAN I STAY HYDRATED?
Dos: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after workouts. Herbal teas and water-rich fruits and vegetables also contribute to hydration.
Don'ts: Avoid sugary drinks and excessive caffeine, as they can lead to dehydration and energy crashes.
ARE THERE ANY MEAL PREP TIPS I SHOULD FOLLOW?
Dos: Plan and prepare your meals in advance. Batchcook protein sources and portion out veggies and grains to streamline your week.
Don'ts: Don’t let meal prep become a chore. Make it enjoyable by experimenting with new recipes and flavors to keep things fresh.
Nutrition is a cornerstone of your fitness journey. Achieving your muscle-building and fat-loss goals goes beyond lifting weights or logging miles—what you eat plays a critical role in shaping your success. By focusing on protein intake, making mindful food choices, and maintaining balance in your diet, you can fuel your body for optimal performance and recovery. Every small change you make adds up, so let your food be the fuel that drives your results. Stay motivated and committed to making nutrition a powerful part of your fitness routine!

How Med-Spa Treatments Can Support Your Skin for Every Decade
ARTICLE BY DANIELLE VONFELDT PHOTOGRAPHY BY CENTENNIAL COLLECTIVE
IN YOUR 30S: COMBATING EARLY SIGNS OF AGING
In your 30s, fine lines and loss of elasticity may begin. This is a great time to invest in treatments that boost collagen production and maintain skin youthfulness.
Microneedling: Stimulates collagen growth, improving texture and reducing fine lines.
Botox/Dermal Fillers: Botox prevents deeper wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles, while dermal fillers restore volume to areas like the cheeks and under-eye area.
Laser Resurfacing: Deep laser treatments improve skin texture, tone, and address wrinkles and pigmentation.
IN YOUR 40S: RESTORING VOLUME AND FIRMNESS
By your 40s, volume loss, sagging skin, and deeper wrinkles may become more noticeable. Med-spa treatments can restore structure and improve elasticity.
Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFMN) : Stimulates collagen production to lift and tighten skin using energy delivered through microchannels.
Dermal Fillers: Restore volume to the face, reducing wrinkles and adding fullness.
PRP Fillers: Uses platelet-rich plasma (from your own blood) to rejuvenate skin and stimulate collagen growth.
IN YOUR 50S AND BEYOND: ADDRESSING VISIBLE SIGNS OF AGING
As you enter your 50s, collagen and elasticity decline further. Med-spa treatments can tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, and restore a youthful appearance.
Combination Therapy : Combining treatments like BeFAB Glow and RFMN improves tone, texture, and tightens skin.
PDO Threads: A non-surgical procedure that tightens skin and reduces wrinkles.
Surgical Options: Facelifts or eyelid surgery, enhanced by med-spa treatments, improve overall skin health.
LED Light Therapy : Boosts collagen production, improving skin tone and texture. Med-spa treatments can effectively support your skin through each decade, addressing concerns and maintaining youthful, healthy skin. At Beautiful Face & Body Wellness, their licensed physician will choose the best treatments for your skin’s unique needs. Visit them at www.befabdenver.com

Pet Wellness Expert, Christy Boswell, Shares Essential Tips for Maintaining Your Dog's Health and Hygiene
Christy Boswell has always been a dog person, growing up surrounded by furry companions and developing a deep love for their well-being and care.
"I begged my parents for a dog for years, and we finally rescued a mixed breed when I was 10. I still remember that day vividly! Since then, dogs have always been an integral part of my life. This passion eventually extended into my professional life, leading me to explore opportunities in the pet care industry."
Now, as a franchise owner of the dog-focused business Scenthound, Christy is able to share her passion and dedication with the Centennial, Colorado community.
"What stood out to me about the Scenthound franchise was its unique focus on wellness and preventive care," Christy says.
Scenthound is a routine hygiene service for dogs with a mission to make grooming accessible to all dogs. The service includes regular check-ups in five key areas—Skin, C oat, E ars, Nails, and Teeth—which are essential to a dog’s overall health and well-being. The name 'Scenthound' reflects the company’s key focus.
ARTICLE BY DANIELLE VONFELDT
Christy offers a helpful guide for pet owners on what to look out for:
Skin: Skin is an indicator of overall health. Excessive scratching chewing, and licking can be a sign of underlying health problems such as parasites, infections, allergies, metabolic problems or stress. Pet parents should look for any signs of irritation, redness, lumps or unusual spots. Regularly checking the skin can help catch these issues early.
Coat : Mats can be super painful. Not only can skin get pulled up into a mat, which causes pinching and pain, but mats can also suffocate the skin underneath, leading to other issues and further discomfort. Changes in the coat such as excessive shedding, bald patches or a dull appearance can also indicate underlying health problems. A healthy coat should be shiny and smooth.
Ears: Canine ear infections are most often due to an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast. Ears should be clean and free of discharge or foul odor. Infections can be extremely painful and are often preventable. Look for signs of redness, swelling or excessive scratching, which could indicate an infection.
Nails: Long nails can break which is painful and sometimes results in infection. They can also cause joint stress and can lead to joint pain, arthritis and even skeletal damage! Nails should be trimmed at least once a month.
Teeth: Are you brushing your pup's teeth daily? Over 90% of dogs have periodontal disease by the time they
are 3 years old. In addition to bad breath, painful inflammation, and eventual tooth loss, periodontal disease can lead to serious health issues. Look for inflamed or swollen gums.
