Invest in a Life Well-Lived

Many things come to mind when I think about the word “invest.” You can invest your money. You can invest your time. You can even invest your heart. All of these investments require faith, involve some risk, and, hopefully, bring great rewards.

At Chattanooga City Lifestyle, we believe the best investments go beyond finances—they shape the way we live, connect, and grow. Your home is a place of comfort and security, and thoughtful improvements can enhance both its value and your daily life. But a house is nothing without the people inside it, which is why investing in family—through time, traditions, and shared experiences—is just as important.

Financial stability provides peace of mind, yet true wealth isn’t measured in dollars alone. It’s also found in the impact we make. Chattanooga is home to incredible nonprofits that uplift our community, and giving back is an investment in a stronger, more connected future.

Health is another vital investment—one that affects every aspect of life. Whether through an active lifestyle, time spent in nature, or simply creating a space that promotes relaxation, prioritizing well-being is one of the most valuable commitments you can make. And sometimes, the best way to recharge is by stepping away—whether it’s a weekend retreat or a quiet escape close to home.

In this issue, we explore the many ways you can invest—in your home, family, finances, health, community, and even the joy of getting away. Dr. Laurie Davis and the team at In Good Health share insights on investing in your well-being, while Trey Williams offers valuable perspectives on securing your financial future through his experience at Primerica. Glenn Wilser of Solid Rock Hardscaping highlights ways to invest in quality time with family, and we showcase an opportunity for fun at the Chattanooga Seafood Bash on the River. The women of the Junior League discuss investing in your community, and the team at OrangeRhino shares tips for enhancing your home. We also take a trip to a luxury treehouse in Knoxville—an ideal retreat for a well-deserved getaway. Finally, we introduce our premier "Local Eats" feature by Kate Robertson Parrish, spotlighting one of St. Elmo's newest restaurants, Little Coyote.

No matter where you choose to focus, each investment holds the power to enrich your life and the lives of those around you. We hope this issue inspires you to invest in a life well-lived.

Cheers!

INVEST IN YOUR HEALTH

When Dr. Laurie Davis and Dr. Bruce Pendley founded In Good Health eighteen years ago, they brought to life a vision of a primary care practice that focuses on health maintenance and disease prevention.

“Even though we are primary care, and we treat typical primary care things like sinus infections, cough, cold, and flu, we have a real focus on eliminating some of the consequences of disease and having a healthier lifestyle to have a healthier body,” shares Laurie.

As a traditional medical practice, In Good Health providers follow medical guidelines but also think outside the box to pursue avenues of health beyond medication. Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy is one such program. “Bio-identical hormones are designed to mimic your body’s natural hormone replacement. Even though it does not eliminate risk of picking hormone therapy, it reduces the risk significantly,” she says. “People can go through the change of life seamlessly and painlessly while they maintain their energy level and sexual wellness.”

Providers also integrate regenerative therapies by using stem cell injections to facilitate healing. This technology utilizes genetically healthy cells from the umbilical cords of full-term infants and because the cells are undifferentiated, they can become whatever is needed for healing. For example, stem cells injected into an adult can help heal the structure of the knee to prevent knee surgery or help repair a herniated disc.

“Inside of the U.S., it’s FDA approved for injections for knees, hips, elbows and shoulders,” explains Laurie. “Outside of the U.S., stem cells are used intravenously for multiple sclerosis, early dementia, early Parkinson’s, autism, congestive heart failure, and COPD. It’s also used for thyroid disorders and lots of autoimmune disorders. They do IV stem cell therapy,

because those stem cells then go to where the body needs them to go to repair the immune system with that body to create healing.”

In Good Health also offers a vaginal rejuvenation program for women experiencing stress incontinence or urge incontinence. In addition to addressing these issues, strengthening pelvic floor muscles typically improves sexual health as well.

These modalities, combined with others such as programs to reduce weight, encourage patients to make investments in a healthy lifestyle now that saves time, money, and pain in the long run.

In Good Health is located at 1508 Tombras Avenue in Chattanooga. For more information, visit: alwaysingoodhealth.com or call: 423-867-4969

INVEST In Your FUTURE

Trey Williams, more formally known as Joseph Rufus Williams III, brings a unique perspective and a lifetime of exceptional experiences to his career as a financial planner with Primerica. Which is why he understands that each client comes with a unique story and benefits from personalized financial and risk management strategies.

Trey and his wife, Sara, married in 2004 in Spain and they have two sons, Samuel and Ezekiel. As a family, they enjoy spending time together and homeschooling creates fun adventures and learning opportunities. Also, driven by a strong desire to connect with and serve others, Trey and his family have sought exciting opportunities in Chattanooga and around the world to make a difference in people’s lives.

In 2012, the call to serve others took the family to Iraq. “We went overseas for a few years and worked with a nonprofit organization,” says Trey. “I taught at a school and ran a soccer academy with refugee kids in the northern part of Iraq. So, we were there during that time with our two kids that were, at the time, ages one and two.”

“I STRIVE TO REALLY help FAMILIES UNDERSTAND HOW MONEY WORKS BY providing education , UNDERSTANDING THE NEEDS OF MY CLIENTS, AND THEN helping THEM TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOALS AND ULTIMATELY BECOME financially independent .”
“IT’S SOMETHING I REALLY love DOING BECAUSE I GET TO help people IN ARGUABLY ONE OF THE MOST stressful AREAS OF their life , WHICH IS dealing with money .”
— TREY WILLIAMS

Currently, Trey partners with his family to serve the local community through their church, Rock Point Church, and other local nonprofit organizations like the Women's Enrichment Center, where his wife served for several years, and Lionhearts Fitness.

“My kids started going to Lionhearts Fitness first and then we decided to get involved as a whole family as something we could do together,” he shares. “At Lionhearts Fitness, they help kids to face their fears and overcome the challenges and the hard things in life. The obstacles are difficult and can be hard to do, but this is a safe environment for kids and adults to come for free fitness and overcome those challenges.”

Professionally, Trey’s call to serve others by helping with their finances grew organically as people frequently trusted him to give financial advice. He found himself researching options and providing guidance, so when an opportunity arose in 2009 for Trey to officially begin working in the financial services industry, it was a natural fit. Trey worked as a financial planner until the call to serve overseas, and when the family came back to America in 2016, he returned to that role.

“It's something I really love doing because I get to help people in arguably one of the most stressful areas of their life, which is dealing with money,” says Trey. “I get to help bring peace of mind for people on the things that they're worrying about and that are keeping them up at night.”

Through Primerica, Trey offers customized financial and risk management strategies for clients, including retirement planning, college savings planning, non-retirement investment accounts, and term life insurance. “I strive to really help families understand how money works by providing education, understanding the needs of my clients, and then helping them to accomplish their goals and ultimately become financially independent,” he shares. “I take time to get to know each client’s unique situation. Then I put together different strategies and tweak those until we create a plan that fits.”

For Trey, serving the community through his work and volunteer opportunities, as well as empowering and partnering with many local small businesses to connect them to resources and people to help them grow their businesses, integrates perfectly into the culture of Chattanooga. “Chattanooga still has smalltown feel because people are so welcoming here,” shares Trey. “This is a community that seeks to help others succeed and people are excited about your success. That is very unique to Chattanooga and speaks volumes about the people and the community here.”

Invest in Quality Time with Family

SOLID ROCK HARDSCAPING

As winter fades and flowers bloom, Chattanoogans eagerly embrace the outdoors, ready to enjoy time with family and friends. Whether it’s relaxing in a lush garden or entertaining guests on a beautifully designed patio, outdoor living spaces have become a priority for many homeowners. Few understand this better than Glenn Wilser, second-generation owner of Solid Rock Hardscaping, whose passion lies in transforming ordinary yards into stunning, functional retreats.

For over 35 years, Solid Rock Hardscaping has served the greater Chattanooga area, always prioritizing craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail. What began as a modest mowing business, founded by Glenn’s father, Joseph Wilser, has evolved into a full-service landscaping and hardscaping company. Today, the company holds certifications from Belgard, ClifRock, and the NCHA, setting it apart as a trusted leader in outdoor design.

Glenn Wilser took an unexpected leap into the family business six years after its inception. Initially, he pursued a different career path, but he soon realized his true passion wasn’t in the field he studied. Instead, he was drawn to the creative possibilities of landscaping and the satisfaction of seeing a vision come to life. Since stepping in, Glenn has transformed the company, expanding beyond mowing services to specialize in custom outdoor experiences tailored to each client’s unique style and needs.

From tranquil gardens designed for relaxation to striking patios built for hosting gatherings, Glenn and his expert team take pride in bringing dream backyards to life. Over the years, he has focused increasingly on hardscaping, incorporating non-living elements such as retaining walls, outdoor fireplaces, ponds, waterfalls, and custom-built seating areas. These additions not only enhance the beauty of a property but also create functional spaces where families can make lasting memories.

What truly sets Solid Rock Hardscaping apart is Glenn’s deep-rooted expertise and years of experience in landscaping. Unlike many hardscaping companies that focus

solely on stonework, Glenn’s team understands how to integrate natural elements seamlessly into a design. His knowledge of plant life, irrigation systems, and seasonal maintenance ensures that every outdoor space remains beautiful and thriving year-round.

According to Glenn, Chattanooga homeowners are investing in outdoor living more than ever before. “It’s the best return on your investment,” he explains. “You’re not just improving your home—you’re investing in your family.” More than just adding value to a property, outdoor spaces encourage quality time with loved ones, a concept that resonates deeply with many homeowners.

With Chattanooga’s mild climate allowing for nine months of outdoor enjoyment, it’s no surprise that families are drawn to spending more time outside. However, Glenn believes it’s about more than just the weather. “When I was a kid, we played outside after school,” he recalls. “We didn’t have all the distractions kids have now. Now, those kids have grown up and want to bring that lifestyle back.”

Now more than ever, Glenn hopes his clients will find peace and joy in their own backyards. Whether it’s listening to the birds chirp in the morning, camping out by a fire pit under the stars, or simply enjoying a meal outdoors, these experiences bring families together in a way that indoor spaces often can’t.

For Glenn, investing in a high-quality outdoor space isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating a place where families can connect and make lifelong memories. He practices what he preaches, spending quality time in his own backyard with his family. “We love sitting out on the patio and roasting marshmallows,” he shares.

With more homeowners seeking to enhance their outdoor spaces, Glenn and his team continue to lead the way in designing backyards that blend beauty, functionality, and comfort.

Chattanooga Seafood Bash on the River

Local Flavor

“There isn’t a seafood dish we don’t carry,” quipped Robin Roberts, founder and CEO of the Chattanooga Seafood Bash on the River. The festival kicks off on Friday, April 25, and runs through Sunday, April 27. Entry is free, though some activities and VIP experiences require a fee.

Previously held in Coolidge Park, the event has moved to Ross’s Landing and the Chattanooga Green to accommodate growing crowds. “It will be much more convenient for parking downtown and walking to the festival,” Roberts explained. “We’re also coordinating with CARTA for transport services to and from the event.”

Roberts encourages everyone to come out for the unbeatable combination of great food and live music. “The spring weather will be fantastic, admission is free, it’s family-friendly, and there are activities for all ages,” she added.

Families can enjoy a dedicated kids’ zone (entry fee required) featuring face painting, six bouncy houses, a petting zoo, and a variety of cool drinks and sweet treats. For adults, several beer and wine gardens will be available, along with friendly competitions like bingo and cornhole.

Music is a festival highlight, with ten bands spanning various genres performing throughout the weekend. From Motown classics to an Aerosmith tribute band, there’s something for everyone.

Not a seafood fan? No problem! Plenty of “land lover” options—like hamburgers and funnel cakes—will be available.

Roberts laughed as she recalled seeing familiar faces returning daily to try new seafood dishes. “I see how happy everyone is, and I know we’re doing something right.”

Seafood Bash on the River is proud to partner with the national nonprofit Folds of Honor as this year’s official charity.

Since 2007, Folds of Honor has provided educational scholarships to the families of fallen and disabled service members and first responders. To date, the organization has awarded over 62,000 scholarships, equating to approximately $290 million in educational impact.

Jenner Kreifels, Director of Impact at Folds of Honor Tennessee, sees the festival as a great opportunity to connect with the Chattanooga community. “We’ve provided nearly 3,000 scholarships to students in Tennessee,” she shared. “Just in the 2024–2025 academic year, we awarded 437 scholarships, totaling about $2.1 million.”

Beyond fundraising, the Seafood Bash is dedicated to honoring veterans throughout the festival. The opening ceremony will feature a special veterans’ march starting at 5PM, proceeding down Chestnut Street, up Riverfront, and concluding at the Seafood Bash stage. The event will include a color guard presentation, the national anthem, and a Quilt of Valor ceremony recognizing five local veterans impacted by war.

The festival aims to raise at least $30,000 for Folds of Honor through various competitions, including the Jigsaw Puzzle Contest, Competitive Cornhole, and Casino, along with VIP seating options throughout the weekend. Many of the games planned will donate 100% of proceeds directly to the nonprofit.

Festival founder Robin Roberts felt a deep connection to Folds of Honor’s mission, as both her husband and two sons are veterans.

“We have a special affinity for the military and wanted to support them in any way we can,” she said.

Invest in Your Home ORANGE RHINO

Adding coating to concrete provides an easy and cost-effective way to add value to, and elevate the aesthetics of, a home by allowing the space to become a true extension of the home.

“Concrete is strong, durable, and solid, but it’s gray, dingy, and though long-lasting, often has surface cracks and stains,” says Brian Brock of OrangeRhino Concrete Coatings. “We specialize in better looking concrete with added benefit of eliminating stains and the need for power washing, because a properly coated concrete surface is durable and easy to clean.”

OrangeRhino uses a special three-step system that includes a base coat, the application of a synthetic flake material that gives the concrete color and texture, and then a topcoat of polyurea to seal the floor. The flakes come in a variety of colors and the polyurea topcoat is four times stronger and ten times more flexible than epoxy, creating a better bond to the concrete. This stronger bond results in a more durable floor that can sustain the expanding and contracting of concrete without cracking.

GREENS:

GREENS INVEST IN YOUR DANDELION

Dandelion greens are a nutritious and easy addition to any meal, perfect for salads or cooked dishes. They are rich in vitamins A, C, K, chlorophyll, and fiber, making them a great choice for digestion and overall health. Their light flavor and texture enhance salads and sandwiches.

BROCCOLI:

Broccoli is often hailed as a nutritional powerhouse, packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals that support overall health. Known for being high in vitamins A, C, and K, it also contains important minerals like potassium, iron, and calcium. In addition, it’s a rich source of beta-carotene, flavonoids, and fiber. Whether raw or cooked, broccoli is an excellent choice for immune system support, making it one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables available.

KALE:

Kale is loaded with essential nutrients such as vitamins C, B6, E, K, and manganese. It contains twice as much selenium as spinach and is an excellent source of calcium. Kale’s unique properties help bind to cholesterol and lower oxalate levels, which promotes calcium absorption and makes it suitable for those prone to kidney stones. Additionally, it provides eye health benefits, thanks to lutein, and its disease-fighting properties make it a great addition to salads, smoothies, and more.

ARTICHOKES:

Artichokes are not only delicious but also packed with fiber, which aids in digestion. They are a great source of plant protein, potassium, and antioxidants like polyphenols. Artichokes also provide essential nutrients, including vitamins C, K, folate, magnesium, and B vitamins.

Boost your health by adding a generous serving of fresh greens to your daily diet. While both cooked and raw vegetables offer health benefits, consuming them raw often provides the most nutrients. Raw greens are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins, helping to lower inflammation and reduce the risk of disease.

ASPARAGUS:

Asparagus is versatile and can be enjoyed grilled, sautéed, baked, or even raw. Packed with vitamins C, E, B, K, folate, and copper, it’s a great source of fiber. It also helps lower cholesterol and provides a variety of antioxidants that aid in healing. Asparagus is a perfect side dish that complements both light and robustly flavored meals.

Local Eats: Little Coyote

After two decades in the restaurant industry, Erik and Amanda Niel are still finding new ways to challenge themselves. Their newest venture, Little Coyote, which opened in November 2023, isn’t just another restaurant. It’s a passion project years in the making.

This funky Tex-Mex eatery in St. Elmo represents a trio of firsts for the husband-andwife team: their first Tex-Mex concept, their first entirely gluten-free establishment, and their first venture into the Chattanooga suburbs. But for Erik, Little Coyote was never a matter of if—only when.

“Every chef who has any measure of success in restaurants always dreams of doing a taco restaurant or a barbecue restaurant,” says Erik. “I managed to smash them together in one shot.”

Inspired by his time in Texas, Little Coyote brings together Texas-style smoked meats and freshly made corn tortillas. Both are best when fresh, with a short shelf life that demands care and precision. From the start, Erik and Amanda knew they wanted to use only corn tortillas. When they realized flour wasn’t necessary for any other dish, the decision became clear: Little Coyote would be entirely gluten-free.

“It’s the harder way, but the end result is better,” Erik says. “It challenges us to keep the food honest.”

Their menu is an exploration of Tex-Mex, Cuban, and Caribbean flavors, cuisines that share common spices, cooking techniques, and a deep connection to bold, vibrant food. This approach allows the team to cast a wide net, creating dishes that feel both nostalgic and exciting. It’s an opportunity to push boundaries, blend their past restaurant experience with fresh ideas, and most importantly, have fun with it. This same creativity extends to their cocktail menu, which is anchored by an extensive selection of agave spirits and approachable, imaginative cocktails.

Tex Mex with a Twist Finds its Home in St. Elmo

Despite clear culinary influences, the menu at Little Coyote is always evolving. It shifts with the seasons, adapting to what’s fresh, available, and most interesting at the time. Produce plays a big role in shaping their offerings, ensuring that every dish is rooted in the moment and complements the smoked meats.

The building itself tells a story, too. Once home to a VFW hall and later a series of Chattanooga restaurants, the space has been transformed into a Southwestern-inspired retreat, filled with cacti, warm earth tones, and a living ceiling of hanging plants. The patio is a work of art; built from the ground up, it’s designed with a perforated ceiling, ambient lighting,

and lush greenery, all set against a stunning view of Lookout Mountain. No matter where you grab a chair, there’s not a bad seat in the house.

When visiting Little Coyote for the first time, Erik and Amanda suggest a mix-and-match approach. Ordering two to three dishes per person creates a shared dining experience that lets guests fully explore the menu’s depth.

Erik is especially proud of the King Ranch Chicken, a refined take on a childhood favorite. “It’s our version of a dish I grew up eating at school as a casserole,” he says. “We just turned it into something really fantastic.”

Amanda encourages guests to embrace the playful nature of the food. “Use your hands. Get creative. Share. We want people to have fun with it.”
