Letter from the Editor

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS. And my heart undeniably belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ, to my husband of 17 years and to my three teenage sons. As someone who has moved over twenty-something times in my 42 years on this earth, I’ve learned what really counts in making a home (and what doesn’t)!

All over the country we have seen homes lost to fire, flood, hurricanes and more. We extend heartfelt compassion and prayers for our friends and colleagues in the Brentwood and surrounding areas in Los Angeles, California. Here on the gulf coast we have seen what water and winds can do to a home. We grieve with those who have lost so much in the fires and with those who were spared but are grieving their community’s vast loss.

In the making of a home, creature comforts should never be underrated– like a favorite place to sit and read with a selection of blankets (which sometimes means cranking up the air conditioning, let’s be honest). Or surfaces clear of clutter, but lots of beautiful, meaningful and interesting things hanging on the walls. And, lots of natural light beaming in the windows and, for me, a garden I can endlessly work and relax in.  I encourage you to reflect on the personal stories that define your own concept of home. Our living spaces are more than just the shelter and aesthetic physical structures-they are repositories of memories, expressions of self, and the backdrop to the stories that shape our lives.

In this issue we really have a fantastic line up for you! From taking in a stunning Open House to a local homeschool mom of four who is upcycling furniture and taking the forgotten to unforgettable.

We sat down with the folks behind Telge Roofing and found out what sets them apart from the rest. Truly first class people and a first class company!

We also got to know the Clarke family of Clarke Plumbing. Family owned and operated, we know who to call for anything plumbing-related! Their level of professionalism, dedication and expertise is unmatched.

We also are excited for you to delve into Pantone’s 2025 Color of the year! We hope you find as much inspiration as we have in the luscious color palettes we paired together with the elegant, decadent Mocha Mousse!

B&A TREE FARMS SAVE!

"We at Telge Roofing have a sense of history," Campbell said. "We value loyalty, dedication to excellence, and earn the trust of our customers and neighbors. We're committed to providing the best roofing services to Cypress."

Raising the Roof on Excellence

Telge Roofing is building a legacy, one roof at a time

Every home requires a strong, stable roof to provide protection and comfort for you and your loved ones.

For over 16 years, Telge Roofing has served the Cypress community with a portfolio of reliable, high-quality residential and commercial roofing services. Now, the company has built a new headquarters to better serve their customer base.

"We're moving because we're growing and need the space,” said Roy Campbell, owner of Telge Roofing. "For years, we've been leasing a part of a building behind another building off Cypress North Houston. We had zero visibility to the public eye. Now we'll have a 10,000 square foot building on 9 acres of land that will provide the space we need. It will feature a highly visible, state-of-the-art headquarters that will reinforce our brand."

Inspired by Cypress history, Campbell said the company’s name pays homage to the oldest road in Cypress, Telge Road. Originally located at 12022 Knigge Cemetery Road, Telge Roofing will now honor its namesake with its new location at 15915 Telge Road.

"We at Telge Roofing have a sense of history," Campbell said. "We value loyalty, dedication to excellence, and earn the trust of our customers and neighbors. We're committed to providing the best roofing services to Cypress, the Houston metro area, and we've expanded into the

Austin metro area. We're strong, growing, and here to stay!"

The new headquarters will include office space, a multi-media classroom for ongoing training, and warehouse space. "I am looking forward to having warehouse space to store materials,” Campbell said. “We already have our own Telge Roofing branded synthetic felt. Now we'll have the space to buy materials in bulk to save costs."

As a full-service roofing company, Telge Roofing offers expertise that ranges from roof installation and replacement, pressure washing, roof soft scrub, and exterior and interior restoration. "We've got over 55,000 satisfied customers and we're A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau,” Campbell said. “It is deeply satisfying to me when I can help a home or business owner turn their roofing problems into roofing solutions."

The company installs and repairs a variety of residential and commercial roofing types including replacement of asphalt shingle, R-panel metal, standing seam metal, stonecoated steel, TPO (Thermal Plastic Olefin), and repair of concrete and tile roofs.

"Most of our work is residential shingle using GAF products," Campbell said. "GAF was founded in 1886 and is the largest roofing material manufacturer in North America. Their standards are high, but we are GAF Certified Master Elite Installers, and we’ve earned 3-Star (Gold) status in the GAF President's Club for workmanship

excellence, reliability, and service. That puts us in the top 1% of all roofing companies in North America."

Campbell adds that Telge Roofing warranties all their work starting with a 5-year No Leak from Telge Roofing itself, plus GAF or Unified Steel warranties that provide coverage to home and business owners for up to 50 years.

Before becoming the owner of Telge Roofing in 2016, Campbell said he was a fire fighter and later got involved in car sales. His former experiences have taught him to welcome new goals and challenges. "I couldn't stop myself from wanting my name at the top of the board every week,” he said. “I coach my people on hustle, commitment, customer service, and delivery."

According to Campbell, most roofing companies are in and out of business in less than 5 years. Telge Roofing has been in business for 16+ years and continues to grow. "At Telge Roofing, we're family,” Campbell said. "We treat our people, our customers, and our neighbors like family. We're here for each other. We're here for you when you need us."

From Forgotten to Unforgettable

Wife and mother of four, Lynn Garcia, started flipping furniture as a creative outlet when she started homeschooling her children over 13 years ago. “I really love what I do and I’m very blessed to be able to create beautiful things out of items that would normally be discarded.” Lynn says. “The relationships I have built with people are very special to me and many clients have become longtime friends."

When buying vintage or upcycled furniture, especially when you have it customized, you're not only saving the items from the landfill, but you’re getting a personalized piece that you can truly treasure–knowing it’s built to last.  Believe it or not, the cost of upcycling (or simply even painting a quality piece_ is a huge money saver.

“I love getting a piece into the shop-whether it be owned by someone who wants it customized, or if it’s something I bought to paint and sell.” Lynn says. She enjoys working with her clients to help them envision what the piece could become.

“When someone messages me or we talk on the phone, the hardest thing is to get inside their head to get a feel for their vision. Most people don’t know what they want until we start talking.” Lynn says. “Through much back and forth with inspiration pictures, their home pictures, and talking, we can figure it out.”

Before Photo: Bench (Converted from a Headboard)
After Photo: Bench (Converted from a Headboard)

Lynn has a proven four-step process for every single piece: paint-clean/sanitize, scuff sand, clean again, prime, paint, seal. She guarantees all of her work.

Lynn shared a few of her pieces with us and how she achieved the look on each one.

Bench (Converted from a headboard) “This was actually a headboard that was converted into a bench before I got my hands on it. I wanted to create a more dramatic look with paint, then a wash of a different color–watered down– to give the appearance of paint dripping.”

White Desk Converted from an old Piano “This was a gutted piano that was deconstructed and wood pieces removed from one area and moved around to create the perfect desk with a new stained wood top. This is one of my favorite repurposing projects to keep another piece out of the landfill!”

Serpentine Dresser “This dresser had the drawer-fronts stripped and sanded, then stained and sealed with an oil-based sealer while the body was painted in a color of the customer's choice. The wood grain was amazing!”

After Photo: Serpentine Dresser
Before Photo: Serpentine Dresser

Lynn also has custom-built over 100 tables; dining, sofa, coffee, and side tables. “Initially, for the first 4-5 years after I started my business, all of my tables were one-of-a-kind because I would buy old beds and cut the posts off, flip them upside down, and those would serve as the table legs.” Lynn shares. “Currently, I can order table legs from a few companies to create this, but the oldest bed I ever cut-up belonged to a family who was selling a bed. When I went to purchase it, I shared my plans to convert it. The woman selling the piece told me that her grandmother was born in that bed, so it was very special to the family. I was able to use both the headboard and footboard to create the table and a bench for her!"

I really take each piece very seriously and people deserve to have an heirloom piece in their home." Lynn says. "I feel honored each time I work for someone."

PIPES MADE Perfect

WHEN PLUMBING PROBLEMS PAY A VISIT, TRUST FAMILYOWNED CLARKE PLUMBING

ARTICLE BY STEPHANIE PARNELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SUNNY RAJABI

From repairing pipes in one hundred degree heat with a mask on during Covid to fixing plumbing disasters during an unprecedented freeze, the Clarke family has been tried and tested when it comes to plumbing nightmares. Working weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather, Clarke Plumbing has earned their five-star Google ratings by being a trusted, reliable plumbing company.

“What makes us different from other plumbing companies is that if you call Clarke Plumbing, you are always speaking to a plumber, no matter who answers the phone,” said Laurie Clarke who co-owns Clarke Plumbing with her husband Matthew Clarke. “We are not sales people or a call center. I'm the one answering the call. We are passionate about plumbing and have high standards on our work. After all, it's our name on the truck. Every customer is important to us.”

A true family affair, Clarke Plumbing opened its doors on September 1st, 2023 and is run by retired Air Force member and master-level plumber Matthew Clarke, his wife Laurie, and their sons Jonathan and Alex, who are apprentice plumbers and are learning on the job from their licenced-plumber parents. Laurie and Matthew have lived in Cypress since 2002 and provide plumbing services for Cypress and much of greater Houston.

“We also work on gas issues, like gas smells or supplying natural gas to generators,” remarked Laurie. “As licensed plumbers, we are the only team who should be working on gas issues, with the exception of CenterPoint.”

Clarke Plumbing offers reliable, family-owned service that prioritizes honesty and integrity. As a family-run business with two licenced plumbers, Clarke Plumbing ensures expert advice right from the get-go, since calls aren’t outsourced to people who aren’t truly experts.  They deliver expert, lasting solutions, giving customers peace of mind and confidence in the care of any plumbing needs.

Laurie emphasizes that there is a lot of misinformation that Texas no longer has or needs licensed plumbers, which she says is categorically incorrect. She says that the Texas State Plumbing Board is very active and that all plumbing can and should be done by a licensed plumber. Frequently, the Clarke family sees plumbing in homes that is not done correctly, and it often causes big problems for homeowners down the road.

“What makes us different from other plumbing companies is that if you call Clarke Plumbing, you are always speaking to a plumber, no matter who answers the phone.”

“Sometimes we have large enough jobs that we all get to work together,” said Laurie. “We spent our Thanksgiving working, which was actually awesome as we all really enjoyed being able to be together.”

Having the Clarke family work on holidays and during catastrophic weather events has benefitted many Cypress households. When it comes to minor and major plumbing disasters, Clarke Plumbing has dealt with all of it including things like no hot water, water leaks in yards, leaks in homes causing water damage, leaking faucets, replacement faucets, plumbing jobs for the install of new appliances, faucet stoppages, water riser leaks, and more.

“Handymen are not licensed to work on plumbing in anyone's homes other than their own. It is so important to have a licensed, knowledgeable professional to take care of all plumbing needs,” said Laurie. “We go through many hours of training, testing, and hands-on learning in order to gain our licenses and understand the issues that could arise due to incorrect plumbing.  Incorrect plumbing can cause water supply contamination, systems not working properly, or even more costly repairs for correction.”

Clarke Plumbing has extensive knowledge including service, new construction and commercial aspects of plumbing, and anyone in the immediate Cypress area is not charged for an estimate.
