From early morning coffee to late night shows, there isn’t much the residents of Franklin lack due to the wide variety of businesses we all enjoy. One of the greatest things about Franklin is its love for tradition along with exciting changes on the horizon for our shape-shifting city that we simply cannot yet imagine. From new restaurants, hotels, high-rises and more, we are definitely living in a progressive time. This issue is a collection of nearly 80,000 votes from our readers and fans of the nominated businesses. We’re overjoyed with the level of interaction the contest received and were equally as surprised with how close many of the categories were – some were separated by only one vote! From the time she was a little girl, Shannon Zingle dreamed of owning her own private practice. That dream came true in 2015, when she opened Shannon Eye Care in Franklin. Shannon Eye Care offers a boutique-like atmosphere, with handpicked collections and stylish eyeglasses. With her entrepreneurial venture, Dr. Zingle seeks to create a business that reflects her personality while also providing patients with her undivided attention. Wagyu Cattle are considered some of the best cows for beef in the world. Their meat is so flavorful that it is considered a delicacy in many circles. However, in the U.S., these cattle are fairly rare, with only about 7,000 of them registered. Tom Moon, a member of Williamson Farmers Cooperative and owner of Spring Hollow Farm, is working to bring the taste of wagyu beef to Middle Tennessee. Moon is a former Army captain who, after a 20-year legal career, purchased a 300-acre farm in Williamson County. Moon began his herd with Angus cattle, but after tasting wagyu at Kayne Prime in Nashville, he knew that was what he wanted to raise. He started with a herd of 12 and one bull, and eventually plans to expand to 200. Moon loves the contentment that comes from raising cattle, and plans to continue doing so as long as he can.

Adelynn Chapman

Adelynn Chapman became interested in aviation while in high school but she put her high-flying dreams on hold for college. After graduating from O’More College of Design with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising she returned to flight lessons and has steadily padded her rating resume. Chapman earned her instrument rating in 2011 and her helicopter rating in 2012. She is currently working on her Commercial Fixed-Wing and multi-engine ratings. Along with her husband, Keith (a captain for Southwest Airlines), she is co-owner of Helistar Aviation, a helicopter charter/rental/training service based at Nashville’s John C. Tune Airport. Chapman also owns two construction companies: Arlyn Homes, and AMF Construction. As a third generation builder, she specializes in residential homes and small commercial. She obtained her real estate license as well and has been with Battle Ground Realty for the past nine years.

tart unknown, finish unforgettable. It might as well have been last year’s slogan for Independence High School. The Eagles, coached by Scott Blade, capped off their undefeated season with a Class 5A state title, the first in school history. As whimsical as last season may have been, Blade and his team aren’t focused on the past, but rather the future, improvement being the focal point. And it begins with building a ‘team first’ mentality. “We celebrated last year and it was a wonderful time but we know this is a different team and we’re trying to get better each day,” says Blade. The new season brings inevitable changes to the starting lineup, most notably with senior Brandon Hines taking over as quarterback. What Hines lacks in experience, he makes up for in work ethic and Blade has faith that his new starter will meet the expectations put on him.

Another big change comes with transfer Troy Henderson. The junior running back is poised to have a big season with the Eagles and adds a new threat to an already stout lineup. When asked about the new addition, Blade immediately commented on Henderson’s quickness, but is most impressed with the newcomers instincts: “I think he’s got terrific vision; that’s one thing with running backs that’s hard, if not impossible, to coach.” Standout returnees include safety Landon Guidry, middle linebacker Hunter Dupress, cornerback Montray Steele, nose guard Michael Pierce, Michael Weathers from the offensive line and David Demke from the defensive line. All are seniors who Blade commended for their maturity and outstanding leadership. Blade and his team are aware of the bull’s-eye now placed on their program. After coming out of nowhere and winning in such a grand fashion, Blade knows this year the Eagles will be on the receiving end of every team’s best effort to beat them. What the Eagles are truly focused on are the variables they can control: getting better every day and coming together as a team. “The wins and loses, they’ll come as they may,” says Blade. “But if we’re taking care of the things we can control, then the rest will fall into place.”
