In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives and all that we are thankful and grateful for.
Thanksgiving has always been my very favorite time of year. It’s all about so many things – celebrating our blessings and everything we are thankful for, giving back, spending quality time with family and friends, and maybe some we haven’t seen in a while, eating all the special foods we associate with this time of year, enjoying the change in our Florida weather to some cooler temps, and the beginning of the holiday season.
I am so very fortunate to have so many blessings in my life and many, many things to be thankful for – all of my family, my husband, my friends, my health, this magazine and our wonderful team, and of course this beautiful community that I am so grateful to be a part.
Our November issue is dedicated to stories of gratefulness and giving back to our community. We are thankful for the residents and businesses here who support so many wonderful organizations and help make our city the vibrant community that it is. We are especially thankful for our advertising partners who help bring this magazine to your doorsteps each month. They are part of our vision and purpose of bringing inspiring stories and the good news of the community directly to you. And a heartfelt thank you to all of our contributors, and to the many residents here who continue to support us.
This holiday season as we prepare to gather with our loved ones, and in the true spirit of thanksgiving, let’s set time aside to consider what truly makes life meaningful and stop to reflect on those blessings.
Wishing you all a very blessed and joyous Thanksgiving, and see you around town!

Entertaining and setting the perfect table can be achieved by following these steps:
• Have a charcuterie board with cheeses, olives, pickles, fruit, etc. set out for guests gathering before the meal. Books on creating charcuterie boards are available at The Home Place or find ideas online.
• Set the table with your fine tableware, elevated paper products or a mixture which has become a more modern way for gatherings.
• Use a centerpiece with flowers, pumpkins, novelty salt and pepper shakers and other themed items.
• Add place cards to personalize your table and make guests feel special.
• Have fun with napkins by using themed elevated paper napkins or cloth napkins folded in an interesting way or use ribbons and tags. Many folding examples are available on social media.
• Have a separate table set for kids with activities to keep them busy and entertained.
• Lastly, add favorite foods, desserts, family, friends and conversation! https://thehomeplacefl.com/
It’s fall y'all! Get ready to gather around the table to celebrate Thanksgiving and football.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA?
I moved to Gainesville in 2016 for a job at a cattle ranch, which lasted about six years, operating heavy machinery and overseeing the feeding of livestock. Later, I alternated between farm work and maintenance jobs as a handyman in the area.
HOW DID YOU CHOOSE THE BUSINESSES YOU OWN?
WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR PROFESSION?
By a twist of fate, I met my current business partner, Neftalí Bernard here in Gainesville and he has been a great support and source of knowledge. He suggested that we develop a project
together, and we explored various business options that would allow me to work outside and for us to participate in the community. Following the accelerated construction growth observed in Gainesville in recent years, we decided on Mobiledumps. Now we are able to support commercial or residential customers who are dealing with renovations or decluttering, waste management and disposal of unused items.
My family is made up of my wife of 20 years, two children (a 9-year-old named Juan, and Leonardo, who will turn 12 in November), my mother-in-law who also lives with us and is like a mother to me, and our dog Max. When we arrived in Gainesville, we fell in love with the city. I consider it a wonderful place to raise children with a calm, healthy environment. My kids love going to the springs, being in contact with nature, and they adore their school. Now, I can’t imagine living anywhere else but here. These are the things you don’t know until you experience them, and once you do, you wonder how you ever lived without them.
We are a very close-knit family and enjoy sharing and participating in each other’s activities, thus finding ways to continue to do things together has come naturally. The encouragement from the family has been important to me as they have helped support the business from the beginning with enthusiasm. My wife accompanies me whenever she can, whether for a delivery or to pick up a dumpster. I think we have turned Mobiledumps into our way of life and have integrated it into our routines. Some weekends, my kids and I will wash the dumpsters together which for me is a time for bonding and for them, a wet and fun activity.
I have always said that my main mentor was my father, who taught me from a young age to work hard, be disciplined, and strive to achieve the goals we set. However, it is fair to say that more recently I must give much-deserved credit to Neftalí, who, in addition to being a great business partner, has been the creative mind behind developing and materializing this venture. He is someone I consider very successful, and together with his wife, Mary, they have provided vital support and guidance for me and my family, for which I will always be grateful.
I would like to share that one of my favorite things to say each day is the simple phrase, “Good Morning!” It’s a ritual I hold dear as I usually start my day before the sun has even come out. Many of our customers are also early risers, so not only do I get to see the sunrise on most days, but I also get to be part of the first moments of their day.
There’s something special about the act of greeting someone with “Good Morning!” and sharing a smile. It’s amazing how a warm, friendly exchange can be so contagious. This little gesture has a way of setting a positive tone for the entire day, both for me and for those I greet. It’s a small but meaningful way to connect with others and spread a bit of joy.
So, with a heartfelt smile I thank all my neighbors in Gainesville and bid you: Good Morning! Here’s to a day filled with positivity, warmth, and the simple pleasure of sharing a smile.

Let’s hear from your local North Central Florida dumpster rental operators, Ryan Smith and Sarah Karremans.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA?
We lived in Kingston, Ontario back in Canada for 38 years. Like Gainesville, it’s a University town, although Gators sports are way more serious than Queens Gaels Football. When we explored opportunities in Florida, we came across Gainesville in our searches, came down to visit and really loved it. Gainesville reminds us of home, with the weather as an exception of course. Our business is a franchise model, so our operating territory is Belleview to Gainesville, and with the growth in Marion County, combined with the steady income base of Gainesville it all seemed like a naturally great fit.
WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR PROFESSION?
Ryan used to work with a friend who owned a 1-800 GOT JUNK location years ago and really became interested in the whole industry. The dumpster industry is truly a needed business. It was something we could run as partners and grow organically. The more you learn about the waste industry the more interesting it becomes. It’s trashy, sure. But someone has to do it! Our residential friendly model allows us to get dumpsters into places that standard roll offs can’t. Which means construction, renovation and real estate jobs can still keep the area clean and safe for everyone. Also, Bin There Dump That started in Canada. Just like we did! Everything came together nicely.
We opened in 2022. So, how does any new business owner balance home/work life? You don’t! We are just two people in our early 40’s working to create a new life in a new country. So we really do put all of our effort into the business. We’ve met hundreds of great people through Chamber events, Gainesville Lifestyle Magazine events, etc. Some have even become friends. So it lends itself to the fantastic ability to merge home/work life together. Business owners always love to chat about daily experiences, struggles, ideas and so forth. So most entrepreneurs never really stop working, that’s what makes us who we are. We just do it differently than a traditional employee.
Successful business owners are fantastic mentors. From a local standpoint or on a grand scale. Watching Shark Tank style shows and being aware of all the ideas and thoughts people create or expand on is just amazing to watch. Inspiration is everywhere. Find your grind and dig into it. We’ve kind of just jumped into this thing knowing very little and been able to successfully grow month over month. Being part of a franchise model helps, we definitely have used the ability to collaborate and discuss issues as they come up in the beginning with other locations across the US, and here in Florida. So we think they’d count as mentors in a sense.

ARTICLE BY DR. LAURA W. MCCHESNEY
“They helped me out of the most painful dark place that I’ve ever been in. I would come in barely able to hold myself, nerve pain in all of my extremities with tingling & numbness, plagued with migraines, neck spasms & severe brain fog. I’m able to function at a much larger capacity than I had even thought possible before I started.” - Alonda
The rewards of helping patients protect their most valuable asset are immeasurable. That’s why our team at Momentum Rehab and Chiropractic are so passionate about guiding our patients on their path back to health. From Allie, our Puplick Relations officer, to our dedicated team of rehab professionals, our sole purpose is getting people back to life. Injuries take a physical and mental toll on both the individual and their family. Whether it’s due to an auto accident, a fall, a concussion, or a sport, the journey to recovery is rarely easy.
That’s why the wins mean so much. Like a patient who hasn’t been able to sleep due to headaches comes in refreshed from a solid night of rest. The one who had nearly crawled into the office is able to resume their mechanic job. Or when they had been reliant on crutches and forgets them in the office after a session. The smiles and relief as they get back to the things they love are what make it all worthwhile. We are beyond thankful to everyone who trusts us with their care.

Experience the finest Japanese cuisine while enjoying our most popular sake, Dassai 23. Sip, savor and indulge in the ultimate sake experience. This Junmai Daiginjo was born from a single challengepolishing Yamaha Nishiki to the limit of limits - 23% remaining of the original rice grain. The nose presents an irresistibly elegant flowery bouquet with a soft, delicate, honey-like sweetness, and the flavor blooms exquisitely in your mouth. According to Amy Morin, LCSW and Carly Snyder, MD, of The Very Well Mind Podcast, Teaching children gratitude can help them feel happier, support better social relationships, and improve overall health and well-being.
In our me-centered world, nurturing thankfulness and gratitude is not easy. Families need to practice this by appreciating each other as often as possible. “Thank you for breakfast” or “Thank you for coming to the table so quickly”, as opposed to regularly only noticing when you are discontent or impatient. Counting blessings as much as possible as a car game or at the dinner table is a way to set aside regular time for practicing gratitude.
A study published in The Journal of Happiness Studies (2019) revealed that gratitude is linked to children’s development by age five.
According to Raising Grateful Children at UNC Chapel Hill, gratitude
has four parts: noticing, thinking, feeling, and doing.
For example, noticing the things for which you are grateful and thinking about why you were given things, along with feeling what it feels like to receive and finally, how to show appreciation, encompass the four key parts.
One idea for showing appreciation is having your child write “thank you” notes to people who give them gifts. This is becoming a lost art. Buying your child some beautiful stationary and special pens can be a way to encourage them while learning this important practice.
Try on different ideas to look on the bright side or create a gratitude ritual and make thankfulness a part of your home. Everyone will get a boost of happiness.
At your Thanksgiving Day table, let each other know how much you love and appreciate all the big and little things each other does and why it makes you thankful.
