"WE HELP YOU PLAN FOR THE ‘UNEXPECTED’ & WORK TOWARDS THE FUTURE YOU WANT." —DAYNA HAZLEWOOD
ARTICLE BY MATHEW KLICKSTEIN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADDIE KNOTT PHOTOGRAPHY
Greeley-based Edward Jones financial advisors Nick Kenny and Dayna Hazlewood are making a significant impact—not just with their clients’ finances but with their lives.
Through their shared mission to provide meaningful support to clients, they approach their work as “economic therapists,” focused on building lasting relationships with both their clients and the community at large.
“As financial advisors with Edward Jones, we talk with our clients regularly, learn from them, understand who they are, what they want, and how we can help them achieve their financial goals,” Nick explains. This connection typically leads to bonds that extend beyond business.
“We often feel like a part of the family at a point,” Nick adds.
Dayna concurs, emphasizing the role of financial advisors in clients’ lives: “A financial advisor is a trusted resource that you can talk to about your goals, wishes, and fears. We help you plan for the ‘unexpected’ and work towards the future you want—for yourself, your family, and even charitable offerings that go beyond yourself.”
Whether clients are working toward a specific financial target or planning for their legacy, Nick’s and Dayna’s role is to align client goals with actionable strategies.
Both Dayna and Nick made major career shifts in their 30s to pursue the path they share now, similarly motivated by a desire to serve their community.
Originally studying trumpet performance, Nick moved to Greeley to earn a master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado and later worked his way up to become Executive Director of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. CONTINUED >
“I loved the arts, but working in a non-profit can be tough, especially financially,” he reflects. The rising cost of living and a desire for stability led him to financial advising. “I didn’t want to leave Greeley for a bigger place that may have offered more opportunities for arts administration. Greeley’s my home.”
Dayna, meanwhile, earned a doctorate in optometry and spent five years building her own practice. It was the business side of her work that sparked her interest in financial planning.
“I wanted to help people as much as I could,” she explains. Transitioning to financial advising allowed her to use the same holistic approach from her optometry work to support financial advisor clients in new ways. As she puts it, “Help them think outside the box. I’m helping the whole person—looking at every angle in every situation.”
Nick and Dayna credit Edward Jones for providing the mentorship and structure they needed to succeed. They had strong mentors, including (in both cases) Dayna’s mother, Debbie, who had been with Edward Jones for years.
Now as financial advisors, they are committed to educating clients about making their money work for them, whether they’re nearing retirement or just starting their careers. “People often get so caught up in ‘saving mode’ that they forget to think about what they’re saving for,” Dayna explains. “What does it mean to you to have that money? What do you want to do with it?”
And, for the burgeoning advisors who became friends after starting at Edward Jones around the same time in 2023, what they do is not just for those moving into the latter phases of their lives.
“If we can help people in their twenties understand the power of saving early, they can retire with a significant amount,” Dayna notes.
“We also often hear that people are worried they’re ‘not rich enough’ to start investing,” Nick reveals. “But you don’t have to be rich to start investing. The best time to start is today.”
Nick and Dayna’s work is about more than just financial planning; it’s about relationships. “When our clients meet their financial goals, it’s not just they who celebrate—we do too,” Nick says with his wry smile. “We celebrate with them because we had the privilege of helping them get there.”
Whether it’s guiding a young professional in starting their savings journey or helping a family with retirement planning, Nick and Dayna’s passion for their work shines through. Their deep commitment to Greeley’s families reflects the strong bonds they’ve built within the Greeley community.
Investing for your future is important — but it can be challenging. Fortunately, you don’t have to go it alone! A financial advisor can help you in several ways.
• Thinking Long Term: A financial advisor can help you develop a long-term financial strategy based on your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. And your advisor can review your strategy regularly to determine what adjustments should be made, either due to changing financial markets or changes in your own life.
• Getting the Timing Right: An advisor can help you avoid costly investment mistakes, such as trying to “time” the market by always seeking the lowest point to buy and the highest to sell. Such a strategy is almost impossible to follow because no one can really predict these highs and lows.
• Measuring Your Progress: Another way a financial advisor can help you is by measuring your progress toward your goals. Many people assume they should just check their portfolio’s performance against a market index, such as the S&P 500, but a financial professional can employ more personalized benchmarks.
Investing for your future can be exciting and rewarding—you can feel more confident in your decisions when you have someone helping you along the way.

FINANCIAL TIPS FROM NICK
Spring is here—which means it’s once again time to wash the windows, organize your cabinets, and steam your carpets. This year, besides tidying up around your house, why not also consider some financial spring cleaning? Here are a few healthy spring cleaning tips!
• De-cluttering: For starters, you could “de-clutter” your investment portfolio. How? Look for duplicate or near-duplicate investments. If you’ve got several, you might be better off selling some to broaden your investment mix.
• Dusting: Dust off your investment strategy. If you’ve experienced changes in your life, such as a marriage, a new job, or the arrival of new children, you might need to adjust your goals and the methods of reaching them
• Preparing: Just as you may get rid of broken tools or other dangerous items when you clean your house or garage, you should watch out for threats to your financial security, such as a major home or auto repair. You can protect yourself by building an emergency fund containing several months’ worth of living expenses.
Of course, some of these moves can take time—but by getting started on them soon, you can help put your financial house in better shape for the next spring cleaning.

The best investments last a lifetime—like the memories made at Greeley’s UNC Jazz Festival, spring hikes through natural areas, and discovering local art. Whether you’re soaking up live music or spending time in wide-open spaces, Greeley offers endless ways to invest in yourself. Greeley’s got it.
After 30 years in digital marketing, Lori Gama has innovated with game-changing technologies—from the dawn of websites in 1993 to mastering Google in 1998 and riding the social media wave in 2008. But she firmly believes that nothing—not smartphones, the cloud, or even the Internet—compares to the seismic shift happening now with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
AI isn’t just another trend; it’s a revolution transforming how we work, communicate, and live. Whether running a business, leading a nonprofit, or enjoying retirement, AI is here to reshape the world. The future is now, and Greeley is part of it. Let’s get ready.
Since ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot, launched in 2022, Lori has been exploring and mastering AI. Today, she uses 23 powerful AI tools that have saved her over 8,000 hours in just three years. These tools amplify her skills in writing, marketing, programming, strategizing, and idea creation.
Her standard is always to create work of the highest quality—which her team continues to do with the assistance of AI. Lori believes that AI is not here to replace human creativity but to amplify it. She views AI as a powerful tool that enhances productivity and innovation while preserving the human touch.
For those curious but unsure where to start, Lori offers her expertise as an AI Consultant, guiding others through this transformative journey. She helps clients increase efficiency by 30% or more, freeing up more time to meet their big goals. Whether you’re a business owner or nonprofit leader, Lori provides personalized strategies, training, and workshops to leverage AI effectively. Intrigued? Here is a primer on six of her favorite AI tools.
ChatGPT is like having a super-smart friend who’s always ready to help. It’s an AI-powered chatbot that responds to questions in a human-like way, drawing on a vast range of knowledge from books, articles, and websites. But it’s not repeating pre-programmed answers—it crafts responses on the spot, just like in a real, human conversation. Give it a try with these prompts!
• “Give me 7 gluten-free dinners for a family of 4 under $135. Ask me questions until you’re 95% sure of giving the best output possible.”
• “Plan a week of easy 30-minute workouts for a busy parent who wants to stay active.”
• “What are some creative yet inexpensive date night ideas?”
MidJourney is a powerful text-to-image AI tool that brings imagination to stunning visuals. Simply describe the image—whether it’s photorealistic, Disney Pixar-inspired, or intricate cut-out designs—and watch it come to life in seconds. Perfect for recreating cherished memories for memoirs, producing technical illustrations and diagrams, or generating unique social media content. Artists can use MidJourney as an extension of their creativity, experimenting with new ideas or enhancing their projects. The possibilities are truly endless, but here are a few prompts to get started:
• “Design a modern kitchen design with bold colors and minimalist decor.”
• “Illustrate a children’s storybook cover about a curious cat who sails the world.”
• “Imagine a cozy bookstore on a rainy evening, lit by warm lanterns.”
Perplexity.ai is the world’s best research assistant right at your fingertips. It cites its sources and even creates graphs for data-related questions. It combines powerful search engine capabilities with the conversational ease of a chatbot. You can narrow down searches using focus modes like academic, social, and video. Its contextual memory keeps track of the conversation, so follow-up questions can be asked without starting over. For fun, try asking:
• “What are the top 10 things families with 2 teenagers can do in Greeley, Colorado, with five hours and a $75 budget?”
• “If I want to start a small backyard garden, what are the easiest plants to grow in Colorado’s climate?”
• “What are some science-backed ways to improve focus and productivity while working from home?”
Magai is an all-in-one AI platform for creating stunning images and high-quality text. While it takes some learning, the creative payoff is worth it. Magai transforms text into visuals or videos—perfect for social media and web design. On the writing side, it uses language models to create everything from blog posts to ad copy. With saved prompts and real-time collaboration, mastering Magai unlocks limitless creative possibilities for individuals and businesses alike. Here a few ideas:
• “Design a modern coffee shop logo with a cozy, minimalist aesthetic.”
• “Generate an Instagram caption for a stunning sunset photo over the Rockies.”
• “Illustrate a book cover for a mystery novel set in a spring forest.”

Lori used HeyGen and ElevenLabs to create her personal digital “twin”—a video version of herself with her cloned voice. That’s right—she can appear on camera and sound exactly like herself without actually being there. Lori simply writes a script reflecting her strategies and ideas, and her “twin” delivers it seamlessly. The video is always polished, with perfect hair, makeup, and lighting already built in. Meanwhile, Lori can focus on running her business, volunteering in our Greeley community, or biking with her husband on the Poudre River Trail. Saving her countless hours while keeping her marketing consistent and engaging.
NotebookLM lets users transform any topic into an engaging AI-driven podcast. Simply provide a link to an online article, upload a PDF, or ask a question, and it generates an audio podcast featuring male and female AI “hosts” discussing the chosen topic. The best part? Users barely have to write anything. Want to impress a colleague or loved one, give these prompts a try:
• “Create a birthday podcast celebrating my best friend’s incredible achievements and the highlights of their amazing life.”
• “Make a fun, fictional podcast episode about a missing sock from the laundry for my kids.”
• “Turn this news article into a 5-minute podcast debate between two experts.”
Greeley knows that home isn’t just about four walls—it’s about the community, the environment, and the little things that make a neighborhood feel like home. One of the most impactful ways to enhance your surroundings is by planting a tree—luckily, the City of Greeley’s Share the Shade program makes it easy and affordable to do just that.
Greeley recently launched its first-ever Urban Forest Strategic Plan, an initiative aimed at expanding and preserving the city’s tree canopy. Share the Shade serves as a key mechanism to bring this vision to life, empowering residents to actively participate in growing and maintaining Greeley’s urban forest.
Share the Shade is a community-driven initiative that provides residents with the opportunity to receive up to two trees at no cost. Homeowners can choose from tree species that are well-suited to Greeley’s climate, ensuring long-term growth and sustainability. The program also guides proper planting and care, helping residents give their new trees the best start possible. Trees are planted by professionals, and participants receive care instructions to keep their trees healthy and thriving.
1. Apply: Visit the City of Greeley’s website to submit an application online.
2. Site Visit: City staff will visit your property to determine the best location for your new tree.
3. Choose Your Tree: Select from a variety of tree species suited to Greeley’s soil and climate.
4. Delivery & Planting: Approved applicants will receive a professionally installed tree at a low cost.
5. Care for Your Tree: You’ll receive expert guidance on watering, pruning, and maintenance to keep your tree thriving.
Participating in Share the Shade isn’t just about improving your own home; it’s about contributing to a healthier, more vibrant Greeley. The more residents who take part, the greater the impact—creating greener streets, cooler neighborhoods, and a city that thrives in harmony with nature.
Embracing the Share the Shade program is a simple yet powerful way to leave a lasting impact on your home and your community. Whether you’re looking to cool your yard, add beauty to your property, or play a part in a greener future, this initiative makes it possible.

Greeley’s Sunshine Car Wash (230 9th Ave.) is a community-driven local business fueled by a passion for spotless cars and exceptional customer service.
Manager Rosann Lugo speaks about vehicle cleanliness with the same passion an artist has for their craft. And, more impressively still, her enthusiasm is notably sincere.
To Rosann and her team, a clean car is about enhancing the driving experience, boosting confidence, and promoting safety.
“For me, a lot of it is about the interaction with customers,” says Rosann, who has been with Sunshine Car Wash for four years. “Just being able to talk with them, being outside with them, whether it’s hot or cold out,” Rosann says. “And then there’s being involved in the team here. I’ve always been involved in sports, and so I see what we do together cleaning cars as teamwork.”
That teamwork extends beyond the wash bays. Rosann views Sunshine Car Wash as a community resource, offering high-quality vehicle cleaning at remarkably affordable prices.
“Times are hard,” Rosann continues. “And so what we’re doing here really does help the community, all throughout Northern Colorado. People can come here and get a very good wash for only $5. That’s important to us.”
Monthly memberships, meanwhile, run a mere $15 and provide unlimited washes. “You can’t find that anywhere else,” Rosann points out. “It makes us one of the most reliable resources people have throughout Greeley and the entire area. That’s what we like so much about what we do here.”
Beyond affordability, Rosann emphasizes attention to detail. Employees are trained not only to engage with customers but also to assess vehicles for special
features or existing damage before they are passed through the wash.
For Rosann, it’s all about saving customers time, money, and effort while ensuring top-notch results. Even a comprehensive wash with a full detail—including interior, exterior, free vacuums, free window cleaner, free dash cleaner, free microfiber towels, and a free mat cleaner and tire cleaning with hand drying—costs just $54 and takes less than an hour.
Rosann concludes that her favorite part of working at Sunshine Car Wash is challenging herself with something new each day. “It motivates us because if you’re not challenged, you become complacent,” she adds. “If you do something you love, you do a better job at it.”
“I want to express my gratitude to our incredible staff,” Rosann says, “with a special thanks to E&T Electric and our maintenance department!”

Boost your health by adding a generous serving of fresh greens to your daily diet. While both cooked and raw vegetables offer health benefits, consuming them raw often provides the most nutrients. Raw greens are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins, helping to lower inflammation and reduce the risk of disease.
Dandelion greens are a nutritious and easy addition to any meal, perfect for salads or cooked dishes. They are rich in vitamins A, C, K, chlorophyll, and fiber, making them a great choice for digestion and overall health. Their light flavor and texture enhance salads and sandwiches.
Broccoli is often hailed as a nutritional powerhouse, packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals that support overall health. Known for being high in vitamins A, C, and K, it also contains important minerals like potassium, iron, and calcium. In addition, it’s a rich source of beta-carotene, flavonoids, and fiber. Whether raw or cooked, broccoli is an excellent choice for immune system support, making it one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables available.
Brussels sprouts are a highly nutritious cruciferous vegetable, known for their vitamin C, K, and folate content, as well as carotenoids and fiber. These vegetables can be shaved, sliced, sautéed, boiled, or grilled, offering a range of flavors from mild to bitter, depending on preparation.
Kale is loaded with essential nutrients such as vitamins C, B6, E, K, and manganese. It contains twice as much selenium as spinach and is an excellent source of calcium. Kale’s unique properties help bind to cholesterol and lower oxalate levels, which promotes calcium absorption and makes it suitable for those prone to kidney stones. Top Notch Plumbing, Heating & Air Supports Each Other While Serving the Community
Adrian Vigil built Top Notch Plumbing, Heating & Air on a foundation of integrity and hard work. Since founding the company in 2016, Adrian’s commitment to quality service has earned Top Notch Plumbing the title of Best Plumber in Greeley for five consecutive years (2020-2024).
Adrian admits that the road hasn’t always been easy. “We have had our fair share of challenges,” says Adrian. In 2021, Top Notch Plumbing hit a rough patch with cash flow and the management team made a heartfelt decision.
“A few of us went without pay to ensure our guys on the field got paid,” Adrian says. Although it was a tough choice, Adrian says the decision revealed how much the team cares for each other.
At Top Notch Plumbing, they’re not just colleagues—they’re a family. Adrian believes that the spirit of solidarity is what makes their work special. The team has learned to support each other while adapting and growing emotionally to tackle trials head-on.
“Today we approach challenges as learning experiences,” says Adrian.
Adrian feels blessed to have highly skilled team members who have helped Top Notch Plumbing grow into what it is today. Adrian is also grateful to have family members working with him, including two of his nephews—Scotty Vigil and Isaiah Morrow.
“I have a special bond with my nieces and nephews—they really light up my life,” says Adrian. “They remind me of the joys of family and keep that spirit alive in me.”
Plus, there’s Adrian’s uncle, Joe Lira, one of Adrian’s biggest cheerleaders and the person who introduced Adrian to the plumbing trade.
One of the many things Adrian loves about Greeley is the feeling of family. “We support one another and value our community,” Adrian says.
Adrian credits Greeley for shaping both his personal and professional journey. He’s grateful for the opportunity to build something meaningful while staying rooted in his community and serving others.
