Celebrating the Magic of the Holidays in Greenwich

The holiday season is officially upon us, and with it comes a time to embrace the warmth, excitement, and wonder that fills our town. In this special holiday issue, we’re thrilled to highlight the magic that makes Greenwich shine this time of year.

We’ve crafted the perfect gift guide with @ blissandbellinis, Anna Barnes, designed to help you check everyone off your list while supporting our beloved local businesses. Whether you're shop ping for the pickiest of recipients or simply want to treat yourself, we’ve got you covered.

For those looking to add a little style to the season, be sure to check out this season's best looks, handpicked by our very own @styleelyst, Ashley Cannon. And no holiday season is complete without celebrating the spirit of our community. We had the pleasure of catching up with Fred, our First Selectman, to talk about his work and impact on Greenwich.

If you’re seeking festive family fun, Jenny Allen shares the event of the season at Sam Bridge, where you can meet Santa's reindeer and soak in the holiday cheer. Plus, Justine Matteis from the Bruce Museum Store gives us the inside scoop on the must-have holiday treasures at this local gem.

Finally, we’re excited to feature the incredible journey of Arianne Elmy, who went from a quiet Connecticut town to the fashion epicenter of New York City, proving that with passion and determination, anything is possible.

As you dive into this issue, we hope it fills you with inspiration and excitement for the season ahead. From all of us here at Greenwich Lifestyle, we wish you a joyful and magical holiday season!

FRED CAMILLO

“Talent is God-given; be humble. Fame is man-given; be grateful. Conceit is self-given; be careful.”

HOW DO YOU SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY?

In addition to serving as the First Selectman of Greenwich, I am a member of several non-profit organizations. I serve on boards and committees at the Flood, Erosion, and Control Board; the Red Cross; the Greenwich Council of Boy Scouts; and Saint Roch’s Roman Catholic Church, just to name a few. Since my teen years, I’ve enjoyed being active in the community and coached baseball for several years. I later served on the RTM; Parks and Recreation Board; the Republican Town Committee, Adopt-ADog, the Redmen Association, Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association, and the Greenwich Baseball Foundation as well as having served on a local cell tower task force and state distracted driving task force. I am currently an Associate Member of the Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING IN GREENWICH?

Having grown up in town, I love how it’s always been a very giving town with a very high civic participation rate among

the residents. Of course, we have natural beauty, great proximity to NYC, a public golf course, a terrific library, a wonderful hospital, parks, and beaches that are second to none, a highly rated school system, a shoreline and countryside, and many other attributes that are too numerous to list here, but the civic pride really sticks out to me.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HIDDEN GEM IN TOWN?

Greenwich has many treasures, but if I had to pick one hidden gem that I believe doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves, it would have to be Island Beach. Certainly, a case can be made for all of our other islands, but Island Beach has always been my favorite.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR PIECE OF ADVICE?

My favorite piece of advice that was given to me a long time ago is: “Give and forget. Receive and remember.”

Reindeer Magic in Greenwich

A Cherished Tradition with a Purpose

The Greenwich Reindeer Festival & Santa’s Workshop, created by TMK Event Marketing, has been spreading holiday cheer for sixteen years. Originally launched to drive more foot traffic to downtown Greenwich merchants, the event has grown into a beloved town tradition. While McArdle’s Florist & Garden Center hosted the festival in its early days, the event found a new home nine years ago at Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses, thanks to the generosity of the Bridge family.

Beyond its festive fun, the Greenwich Reindeer Festival has supported a vital cause since its inception: Kids In Crisis. Over the years, this partnership has helped raise over $75,000 to support the organization's mission of aiding children and families during difficult times. Voted one of the top five holiday events in Connecticut for several years, the festival brings joy to thousands of families and pets each season.

A huge thank you to Sam Bridge Nursery, Jenny Allen at Compass Real Estate (her fourth year sponsoring this amazing community event), MercedesBenz of Greenwich, and all sponsors who make this holiday experience possible. As we celebrate this season, Santa and his reindeer are excited to welcome everyone for the best year yet! Don’t miss out on this heartwarming community tradition. Remember to tag us in your experience for a chance to be featured @greenwichlifestylemag. Creating Her Own Good Luck

From small-town Connecticut beginnings to NYC’s fashion scene, Arianne Elmy's designs shine!

Arianne Elmy's journey from a quiet Connecticut town to fashion epicenter of New York City is a tale of creativity and perseverance. Born in Oxford, CT, Arianne's love for fashion and passion for art began early on. While attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, she honed her skills in fashion design, but quickly realized she wanted to forge her own path. “I always knew I wanted my own brand,” she recalls, launching her label in 2014.

Arianne's brand gained momentum with the rise of Instagram. Soon, celebrities like Mariah Carey and Katy Perry were spotted in her designs, propelling her into the limelight. Recently, Martha Stewart referred to Arianne as her new favorite designer, a moment Arianne describes as a “total pinch me moment!”

However, her journey hasn't been without challenges. “Cash was the biggest hurdle,” she admits. “I didn’t know how to market the brand beyond celebrities.” Everything changed when her Good Luck Dress went viral. Orders surged, and the

brand quickly outgrew her Brooklyn apartment, leading to her first office in Manhattan’s garment district—a pivotal moment in her career.

The Good Luck Dress was born from Arianne's need for good fortune and has certainly lived up to its name. “I just needed some good luck, and it sure has brought me good luck,” she shares. Its universal appeal attracts women of all ages, from recent high school graduates to icons like Martha Stewart. The unique fabric, designed in collaboration with her team in Turkey, is exclusive to Arianne Elmy. Once created, the fabric is shipped to New York, where it’s crafted with precision in an allwomen-owned factory—the same factory that sews for luxury label The Row.

As Arianne prepares to open her first showroom in Midtown, her bold and unapologetic aesthetic continues to radiate confidence and joy. With her fabulous designs, it's clear that Arianne Elmy is poised for continued good luck and great success in the fashion world!

Discover Holiday Treasures

AT THE BRUCE MUSEUM STORE WITH JUSTINE MATTEIS

This holiday season, the Bruce Museum Store is a must-visit destination for unique and thoughtful gifts. We sat down with Justine Matteis, the Manager of the Bruce Museum Store, to learn about her approach to curating the store’s exceptional holiday offerings. From exclusive museum-inspired items to chic winter accessories, Justine shares how she creates a memorable shopping experience that keeps visitors coming back year after year.

Justine’s approach to curating the store’s holiday offerings starts well before the season begins. “I start shopping for the following year’s holiday items right after the holidays,” she says. “Every year, I attend the AmericasMart gift show in January and purchase items for the following December. I’m always on the hunt for items that tie in with exhibitions on display and looking for the next best thing.”

One of the highlights this season is the newest collection of fashionable winter wear. "We have leather gloves, handbags, and scarves, along with matching hats and gloves for children," Justine enthuses. For art lovers, the store offers merchandise related to the Wyeth exhibition, including mugs and a limited-edition catalog. "Our Sibilia line of modern jewelry and home accessories from Buenos Aires is also a standout, featuring kinetic sculptures that are both unique and captivating," she adds.

Supporting local artists and vendors is a priority for Justine. "I pride myself in carrying Stamford native and RISD

graduate Catherine Canino’s jewelry collection, which I’ve featured for over 15 years," she notes. The store also collaborates with East Hartford-based Popcorn Custom Products for all logo merchandise, keeping custom work within Connecticut. "We work with local businesses like Hupaco/ The Hudson Paper Company in Stratford for our packaging and bags," highlighting her commitment to the local economy.

Creating an engaging shopping experience is essential, especially during the bustling holiday season. "We offer free gift wrapping, play festive holiday tunes, and host special shopper nights and sipand-shop evening events," Justine shares. Members enjoy an extra perk with a 10% discount, making it a perfect time to join the museum community.

For those seeking limited-edition or exclusive items, the store does not disappoint. "Any merchandise we've created for our exhibitions is limited edition," Justine points out. One such treasure is the Josh Simpson limited-edition hand-blown glass sculptures, inspired by astrophysical themes and vibrant in color.

When asked about her personal favorites, Justine lights up. "I'm in love with our new luxury Italian leather clutch bags in a stunning blue metallic," she reveals. Additionally, the store carries the MYWALIT line of Italian leather small goods, including wallets and credit card holders, perfect for gift-giving.

Being part of the Museum Store Association allows Justine to stay connected with industry trends and discover new products. "Many of my vendors are part of the association, which is a great source for custom products and keeping up with what's new in museum store shopping," she mentions.

As you explore the Bruce Museum Store this holiday season, you're not just shopping—you're supporting local artisans, embracing exclusive finds, and experiencing the thoughtful curation that Justine and her team bring to life. With such a diverse and exciting selection, there’s something special for everyone on your list.

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”

As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.

Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.

One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.

Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.

These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just

about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”

We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.

To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.

The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.com

It turns out that men have a biological clock, too. Yep, as your age increases, the quality of your sperm decreases. Who knew? This means there’s a decrease in your fertility and an increased chance of having a child with a wide range of health issues, including congenital disorders and neurodevelopment conditions. Things to minimize, for sure. So, if you’re in your mid to late 30s but haven’t yet started a family…or you’re starting certain medications or TRT, or about to undergo cancer treatment or a pelvic procedure, banking with Maze should probably be part of the conversation.
