Is Your House A Home?

In 2020, Americans saw a resurgence in the idea of making your house a home. Many of us, myself included transitioned from 40-plus hours a week in the office to working from home, at least part of the time. Combine this with rising inflation and increased difficulties in traveling, and we found ourselves spending a lot more time in our house. Home services, remodeling and DIY all saw a significant uptick and many people were investing in creating a home environment that was more useful and enjoyable. Humans are, and always will be, social creatures by nature and the need to "get out" still exists but a balancing between going out and staying in has certainly occurred.
As I look back, I certainly have memories of places I've gone and things I've done, but the vast majority of what comes to mind is general life at home growing up. From birthday parties, holidays and kids' first steps or words, to working in the yard, throwing the ball or painting the walls, these memories stand out more than anything. It's the daily activities in the home, with family and friends that rise to the surface.
Whether you're looking for a new home that better fits the type of life you live or you love your home but would like to make some changes or additions, Greenwood City Lifestyle can suggest some options. As we do in any category, we try very hard to partner with businesses who consistently prove themselves as some of the best in class. Hopefully this edition provides you with some ideas on how you can take your home to the next level, whether you're interested in the exterior beautification or restoring the interior to a newer modern condition, whether the bones and structure are your focus, or you want to add some fun and excitement to your home. We want to help you transform your house into a beautiful and enjoyable environment, a home.
Thank you so much to our readers for all of the support we've seen, and thank you to our source partners who make what we do so enjoyable by assisting our writers with content and ideas. The feedback we've received has been amazing, and we hope you enjoy this "Home" edition of Greenwood City Lifestyle

ANGIE'S POOL & SPA: 35 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE, CUSTOM SERVICES
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
(L to R): Colby and Reva Long; Angie and Paul Lauth / Photo by Dirt Darlin Photography

As Angie's Pool & Spa, Inc. team members celebrate the company's 35th anniversary this year, owner Angie Lauth confirms they're grateful about becoming a trusted business in Greenwood and surrounding communities, one that brings families together to create lifelong memories in their backyards.
"With an unwavering commitment to quality, transparency and personalized service, we're the go-to destination for custom inground pools and all things backyard living," she says.
She says one attribute customers most appreciate is their accuracy. She adds that from the initial design phase to final touches, they oversee every step of the pool construction process to ensure the highest standards of craftsmanship and care. "Unlike many competitors, we never subcontract out critical aspects of the job like excavation and pool installation. This hands-on approach guarantees each pool is built with precision and attention to detail."
Angie states the only tasks subcontracted are those requiring licensed specialists, such as electrical work, gas connections, concrete pouring and automatic pool cover installations. "By maintaining control over projects' core elements, we ensure consistency and quality at every stage."
One standout feature that sets Angie’s Pool & Spa apart, she reminds, is their commitment to transparency. Every homeowner can access their own online portal to view live updates on their pool’s installation progress; pull up important job documents or contracts; and see photos of the build as it unfolds.
Another differentiator Angie says is that the team takes pride in sourcing high-quality materials. For instance, the steel used in the pool construction is locally sourced from Only Alpha Pools, based in Fort Wayne. She asserts this partnership ensures quick response times and supports local businesses, all while delivering trusted durability for pools.

"By prioritizing top-notch materials, we build pools that stand the test of time," she says.
However, Angie’s Pool & Spa is more than just a pool builder. They offer a full range of pool and spa services, along with water testing, hot tub showrooms, grills and products to meet all backyard needs. These upcoming fun and educational events are designed for community enrichment:
• 35th Annual Customer Appreciation Celebration on April 26 at the Franklin location for lunch cooked on the Big Green Egg grill, family fun, exclusive discounts, door prizes and a chance to win a swimming pool.
• During May, kids younger than 12 years can recite the Safe Swimmer’s Pledge to earn a free pair of swimming goggles and a spot on the company's Safe Swimmer’s Wall.
• In June, attend a free session and dinner at which the company's professionals will teach attendees how to keep pools clean and clear all summer long.
"We provide inground pools, hot tubs, equipment accessories, Big Green Egg grilling systems and a variety of beneficial pool services."
Angie’s Pool & Spa began humbly in 1990, when Angie and her husband, Paul Lauth, started the business from their garage, passing out fliers and cleaning pools. She says their dedication and hard work soon led to a small shop located off County Line and State Road 37, and eventually to the Greenwood location on Meridian Parke Drive. Today, the couple is joined by their daughter, Reva Long, who assists in managing the business, and their son-in-law, Colby Long, who helps with construction and designs pools using CAD (computer aided design) software. A second company location was opened in Franklin during 2024 to better serve the growing community.
"We honestly care about creating lasting client relationships, and are known for our quality craftsmanship," Angie states. "During the company's decades, we've demonstrated our steadfast dedication to exceeding customer expectations, and earned the reputation for delivering unparalleled pool designs while harmoniously blending aesthetics and functionality."
• Demo Day Fridays offer opportunities to taste flavors of the Big Green Egg grill and to sample the rubs and seasonings they sell, which are created in Waxahachie, Texas, under the barbecue lifestyle brand Meat Church BBQ.

FLOORS 'MAKE OR BREAK' HOMES
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY BY BIG DOG FLOORING
Ask a certain Saint Bernard, Bernstein, why Big Dog Flooring is the best installation group to em'bark' with, and he'll use his paw-sitively convincing good nature to demonstrate why this staff is a home's best friend.
Big Dog Flooring co-owners and spouses Chip and Kristin Payton say they pride themselves on providing several pet-friendly products, among their wide selections. In fact, Big Dog Flooring is a proud sponsor of Pet Pals TV. Joining this duo at the store are John and nephew Robbie.
"Customer service is our No. 1 priority. We're known for truly listening to what people need for
their circumstances and getting to right solutions," Kristin adds.
Choosing proper flooring is essential when creating a stylish, functional space. Flooring impacts the overall look, feel and functionality of both home and commercial rooms. A well-planned floor serves as the foundation to spaces.
"Extremely popular are our waterproof flooring options, which come in realistic wood or tile looks, including different shades and sizes. Because its finish is water-resistant, it's easy to care for," Kristin says. "And we have the largest selection of waterproof products on the Southside."

Big Dog Flooring's Pet-Embracing Crews Help Make Fabulous First impressions For Homeowners, Business Staffs
Chip says another differentiator is that their products are handled by the company's own dependable, consistent installers.
"We remain in frequent communication with customers to update them on their order, the delivery process and the installation time frame. They like that we have better quality products at affordable prices so we can work within various budgets," he says.
After clients visit the store to discuss and finalize product selections, Chip says Bernstein is happy to accompany him to provide complimentary, in-house measurements.
Store/Showroom Hours:
• Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As a family-owned and operated business, the Big Dog Flooring Inc. crew handles residential and commercial projects, as well as new homes. Their products span engineered hardwood, carpet, full spread vinyl, waterproof flooring, patterned carpets, carpet tiles and laminates. Launched in 2006, Kristin and Chip Payton are co-owners.
Kristin says Big Dog Flooring experts assist with choosing the right materials for floors because floors are crucial for both aesthetic appeal and the durability of any space. From residential to commercial spaces, proper floor materials can enhance the beauty of interior designs while also providing longevity and functionality.
Factors to consider in floor selections include lifestyles, traffic levels, sturdiness, maintenance requirements, slip resistance and allergies.

Not Just Place To Call Home
ABERDEEN COMMUNITY PROVIDES
WELLNESS LIFESTYLE, AGRIHOOD, MORE
NEW NEIGHBORHOOD AMENITIES
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON

As Indy’s first 'Agrihood' and wellness lifestyle community, Aberdeen's gated neighborhood blends agriculture with a host of health-minded amenities, including more than 2.5 miles of trails, woods, green space, stocked lakes, community gardens and monthly programmed activities, plus a working farm that supplies farm-fresh food and additional staples.
Located within this premier neighborhood in Bargersville, Aberdeen Farms is at the heart of the farmto-table hamlet, calling residents and community alike to enjoy pastures with grazing horses, lowing cows, fresh-cut flowers, seasonal produce, an event barn and a farm market with locally grown produce, eggs from pasture-fed chickens, baked goods, milk, USDA-inspected meats, and hormone/drug-free beef raised on-site.
This intentionally planned and distinctive community is the vision brought to life of developer Mike Duke, founder and president of Duke Homes, Inc., and his wife and co-visionary, Marcia Duke. Through his dedication to mindful stewardship of the land born from being a seventh-generation family farmer living and farming in Johnson County, Mike and Duke Homes balance this stewardship while delivering an unparalleled living experience.
Mike says they extended Aberdeen's walking paths last summer and recently opened the Aberdeen Bark Park for resident dog owners.
"We also have new sports courts that've been installed in Aberdeen’s Lakeside Park, and we'll have the surfaces completed when the weather breaks this spring," he says.
A community playground soon will follow, he adds.
Dena Marks, Aberdeen marketing and events manager, says the market offers seasonal food products, such as berries, fruits, sweet corn, pumpkins, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, asparagus, beans, lettuce, kale and apples from local orchards. "Some of the
products are grown or raised at Aberdeen, and others are sourced locally," she adds.
"We also offer butter, honey, honey sticks, jams, jellies, salsas, sunflower or olive oils, and teas," Dena states.
Aberdeen’s overall farm operation also provides learning opportunities through on-site educational activities that provide volunteers and residents the ability to participate in growing and harvesting some of the produce.
Dena says the event barn is a community hub, anchoring the farm in its place and welcoming all who come to shop, sit a spell on the covered porch to enjoy the views, or stop by to feed the chickens, cows and horses. Among other elements, she adds that the farm boasts pastures for farm animals, rows upon rows of sweet corn, a pumpkin patch, an orchard and numerous plots for fresh cutting flowers, herbs and produce.
An apothecary section at the market, Dena says, offers Aberdeen Farms' own line of products, including scented Dead Sea bath salts; whipped facial and body tallow; all natural hand soap, plus locally sourced handmade goat soaps and lotions.
"Additionally, our market offers candles, a small assortment of indoor plants and various wall and kitchen décor like tea towels and pictures," Dena states.
She says they are booking special events at the barn, and adding additional monthly activities/events that are open to the community at large.
Mike says a new section of the community is now open for reservations. Each home that Duke builds, both in Aberdeen and out, is known for combining timeless design and the highest quality craftsmanship. He adds that the design of each Duke Home there is like a fingerprint, as unique as the clients themselves.

TREE service, gutter CLEANING, MULCHING:
Bringing to life clients' home-improvement outdoor visions is the mission of Jesse Hunt, owner/ operator of Humble Hunt's Services LLC, a team who handles quality-driven tree removal, trimming or pruning, along with brush removal, yard cleanup, mulching, lot clearances and gutter cleaning.
After helping other tree companies expand, Jesse decided to start his own business. "That way, I could ensure all safety requirements were met, and provide top-quality work at more affordable prices. Plus, we love being part of small-town, local communities."
Jesse says they analyze every job to decide the safest, most efficient setup. "If that requires us to put any equipment in a yard, we get the clients' permission, evaluate specific yard conditions, and use plywood if needed. This ensures we minimize or eliminate any potential yard damage," he adds.
He says they also can haul unwanted trash and debris for both residential and commercial jobs.
"Trust our softscaping service to transform outdoor areas into functional, inviting spaces that add value to properties. We remove weeds and unwanted plants, lay weed barriers/landscaping paper, add landscaping edging, plant flowers and bushes and spread mulch or river rock," he adds.
Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
HUMBLE HUNT’S SERVICES
Launched in 2018, experienced tree and landscaping specialists at Humble Hunt's Services LLC verify they're fully insured. Sarah Hunt, managing partner, says they carry worker's' compensation for their employees, and clients may request a certificate of insurance before jobs begin. They also offer free estimates. BUILDING HOMES with TRUST and QUALITY
From the beginning, the focus of Rees Restoration’s teams has been stated as more than just restoring houses; it's been about creating homes. The local business started humbly out of owner Johnny Rees’ kitchen a little more than 10 years ago, with just he and his wife, Amanda, collaborating.
Johnny says their dedication to authenticity, trustworthiness and quality prompted the company to grow exponentially. In fact, Carly Bjerregaard, Rees Restoration business and development coordinator, explains, “We've doubled growth in almost every area each year since 2020; more than just numbers, we attribute this to our care and dedication.”
“We really function as a family here,” Carly adds. “But we also extend those family values to our customers. We personally respond to every review we receive, reflecting our genuine commitment to their satisfaction. We also offer a 24-hour emergency hotline, ensuring customers always speak with a real person when they need assistance. Homeowners can trust that their best interests are always our top priority.”
