Hi Henderson!

It’s the season of love and what better way to celebrate than to highlight some local favorites in our Love Local issue!

Henderson has so much to offer from incredible parks and trails to quaint coffee shops and activities that bring us all together throughout the year. When I moved here 20 years ago, the city was much smaller. Although we've grown significantly since then, the small-town charm has remained, especially in what I fondly refer to as "this side of town." Henderson is a community that builds each other up, supports one another, and it strives to remain one of the top places to live.

In my first issue I wrote that I. Love. This. City. It wasn’t an exaggeration. People would joke that I should be the town ambassador before taking over as publisher and they were right. I couldn’t be more thrilled to share our Love Local issue with you.

This month, we share the story of two local childhood friends who now work together finding joy in helping others make our community home. We’re highlighting a Vegas-born and raised country singer on the rise. We share ideas on how to plan for one of my favorite events of the year … Galentine’s Day! Sorry guys, but Valentine’s Day is really for the ladies anyway. And we speak with St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School who shares their commitment to the community in innovative education here in Henderson.

We wish you lots of love this season and remind our readers to shop local!

Love,

VEGAS NATIVE SIERRA BLACK SHINING BRIGHT IN LIFE AND ON STAGE

COUNTRY ROCKING

For Sierra Black, country music has always been a part of life, from the time she was a little girl growing up in Las Vegas.

"I am the baby of five in my family and I remember my dad picking up his guitar and singing country music to us every night," said Sierra. "When I was 16, I looked at my parents and told them I wanted to pursue music. It's my

multi-Grammy-winning producer, Mark Bright who has worked with artists like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Rascal Flatts. That song went viral on YouTube garnering nearly 7 million views and more than 3 million streams online.

"It's a ballad I wrote with Mark Bright and Chris Stevens,” Sierra recalled. “I love when people send me videos of

“I FEEL LIKE I AM IN MY PRIME. IT'S AMAZING.”

passion and what I was born to do."

The 31-year-old singer and songwriter has since made that childhood dream come true. Drawing her inspiration from her favorite artists like Faith Hill and Shania Twain, Sierra began traveling back and forth as a teen between Nashville and Las Vegas, learning everything she could about the country music world.

"Everything about country music just resonated with me," said Sierra. “It's the connection and the meaning behind the words."

In 2017, Sierra wrote and recorded a song titled "Make it Easy" with

the song playing at their wedding. It's about love and finding ‘your person’ who just makes life easy."

But like the stories behind many country music songs, life is not always easy, and heartbreaks are inevitable.

"When I got separated and divorced, that really sparked a lot of writing creativity," said Sierra. "I know if my daughters need anything, it's the best version of me, and the best version of me is a singer. So, I dove right back into singing and songwriting and never looked back."

Sierra said while it's not always easy balancing her life as a mom to her girls,

now 5 and 3, with her busy career, she feels she's in the place she's meant to be.

"I feel like I am in my prime. It's amazing," said Sierra. "I am not sure if it's being a mom or getting a little older, but I am truly in the best phase of my life."

The road ahead for this talented singer-songwriter is now looking brighter than ever. Last year was a special year for her from scoring a residency at Ole' Red Las Vegas to performing before a record crowd of more than 60,000 football fans at Allegiant Stadium. Sierra also recently released her latest single, “Green Lights,” with more on the horizon.

When asked about the secret to her success, Sierra said it all comes down to knowing who you are and writing your own story and, in her case, also her own music.

"Everyone wants to put you in their mold or box and tell you what they think you should be," said Sierra. “That’s never going to work. No one else will believe that. Be authentic and true to yourself. That's what will bring you success."

Local School Champions Holistic Growth

STREAM education and service inspire future-ready leaders

The significance of getting an excellent education in our local community cannot be overstated, as it shapes our future generations and creates an environment of growth and opportunity. One local institution that takes this challenge seriously and accentuates modern educational practices and community engagement is St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School. Fully accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA), the school emphasizes a holistic approach to education through a faith-based curriculum that prepares students for both academic and personal success.

INNOVATIVE

EDUCATIONAL FRAMEWORK

St. Anthony’s educational philosophy focuses on the S.T.R.E.A.M framework, which integrates science, technology, religion, engineering, arts, and math into the curriculum. Principal Rick Blanc explains, “By implementing this framework, our students can inquire, think, investigate, and innovate across multiple settings and disciplines.” This comprehensive approach provides a learning environment where students are consistently engaged in a rigorous and cutting-edge curriculum while integrating science and technology with Catholic values and teachings. At St. Anthony, children of all faiths are welcomed, with all subjects taught through the lens of the Catholic faith. This

ensures that the students receive a moral foundation to reinforce their learning experiences, both academic and social.

Unique facilities such as a video and sound production studio and woodshop enhance the learning experience. Principal Blanc notes that these spaces allow students to “discover their gifts and talents” in ways that traditional classrooms may not facilitate. The STREAM lab serves as a creative hub where students can apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, further enriching their educational journey with an emphasis on growth mindset.

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

St. Anthony’s commitment to community service is evident through various student-led initiatives. The Student Council and National Junior Honor Society actively participate in projects that benefit local organizations. For instance, they have established traditions such as welcoming veterans at the airport with signs and cards

through their involvement in Honor Flight. Additionally, they have collaborated with the NFL’s Super KidsSuper Sharing Event to collect books and sports equipment for schools in need, and they regularly support local charities during the holiday season through their “Angel Tree” gift giving.

Principal Blanc highlights the importance of these initiatives: “We strive to educate the whole child while maintaining consistency with our programs.” The school’s upcoming gala in April serves as a significant fundraiser for their Legacy Fund, which provides financial assistance for families in need of tuition support. This event not only highlights student achievements, but also reinforces the school’s dedication to community involvement.

PREPARING STUDENTS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS

The educational model at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School mimics a university setting, preparing students for future academic challenges. With a focus on college and career readiness, the curriculum includes real-world connections that help students see practical applications of their learning. “Our standards have a clear focus on college and career readiness,” Principal Blanc states, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with skills necessary for success beyond high school.

The school also implements School Wide Learning Expectations linked to their lessons, along with a Life Skills program that helps students develop the framework for moral reasoning and ethical decision-making. This commitment is integral to the mission of the school; by integrating these expectations into their teaching, they ensure that students excel academically and obtain essential life skills that will serve them well in their future endeavors.

CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ARTS AND SPORTS

St. Anthony takes pride in its robust performing arts program and athletic achievements. The school choir and angel choir perform weekly at mass and participate in various concerts throughout the year. They have even had the honor of singing the national anthem for local sports teams, including the Silver Knights hockey team.

Other highlights include an annual art show as well as recognition and high achievements in scholastic competitions such as the annual spelling bee, science fairs, forensics tournament, and geography bee. St.

Anthony has experienced success in sports competitions within the Archdiocesan Sports program, securing first place finishes in co-ed soccer and basketball. The school encourages participation in a wide variety of sports programs including cross country, track, flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading, further building upon a spirit of excellence among students.

With a strong foundation built on innovative education, community engagement, and a commitment to holistic development, St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School is dedicated to nurturing future leaders who are well-prepared for both academic success and meaningful contributions to society. As Principal Blanc aptly quotes St. Anthony of Padua, “Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.”

LOCAL REAL ESTATE ADVISORS EMPOWER CLIENTS THROUGH HOMETOWN KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONALIZED SUPPORT

Vegas Natives Guide Home Dreams

We’re not here to sell; we’re here to advise.

LAS VEGAS ROOTS AS A FOUNDATION FOR CONNECTION

Las Vegas natives Alex Mavros and Jason Hill bring a deep understanding of the city they call home to their work in real estate and mortgage advising. Growing up in a city that transformed from a desert town to a thriving hub, they witnessed its evolution firsthand. Their unique perspective gives them an edge in helping clients discover the opportunities Las Vegas offers beyond the Strip.

Jason adds, “We have lived across various neighborhoods and seen the city grow. This knowledge helps us provide a more comprehensive view of what living in Las Vegas entails.”

A PHILOSOPHY OF SERVICE OVER SALES

For Alex, a REALTOR®, and Jason, a mortgage lender, success is more than closing deals—it’s about helping clients make informed, confident decisions.

“We’re not here to sell; we’re here to advise,” Jason explains. “Our focus is on arming clients with the knowledge to make sound financial choices.”

Alex echoes, “We treat every client like family. Would I recommend something to my mom that doesn’t benefit her? Never. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.”

Their partnership, forged through their fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon at UNLV, enables them to work seamlessly, ensuring clients receive consistent support throughout the process.

REAL ESTATE AS A FINANCIAL ASSET

With more than 35 years of combined experience, Alex and Jason advocate for real estate as a cornerstone

of financial planning. “For many Americans, the majority of their wealth is tied to real estate,” Jason says. “We help clients think strategically, whether they’re first-time buyers pooling resources or highnet-worth individuals seeking tax advantages.”

Their approach involves collaborating with CPAs, financial advisors, and other professionals to provide holistic advice. “We’re not just helping people buy homes; we’re helping them secure their future,” Alex adds.

COMMUNITY AT THE CORE

Beyond their professional endeavors, Alex and Jason are deeply committed to giving back. Alex serves on the board of organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and Life by Music, while Jason consistently supports these initiatives.

“Las Vegas isn’t just a city; it’s our home,” Alex says. “We want to ensure it’s a great place for future generations by staying engaged and involved.”

With decades of experience and a shared philosophy of putting clients first, Alex and Jason set themselves apart. Their commitment to treating clients like family fosters lifelong relationships.

Whether you’re buying your first home, upgrading, or exploring real estate as an investment, Alex and Jason are the partners you can trust to navigate every step of the process.

"With an intimate knowledge of the city, we guide clients to find homes that suit their needswhether relocating, investing, or purchasing their first home,” said Alex.

TIPS FOR HOSTING THE ULTIMATE GALENTINE’S GATHERING WITH YOUR BESTIES

One of my favorite holidays of the year is upon us … Galentine’s Day. As much as Valentine’s Day is painted as a romantic holiday for couples, most men participate out of love for us ladies, but it’s not one many get too excited about. I guarantee if you look around at the tables enjoying a celebration this time of year, the one having the most fun will inevitably be full of gal pals, decked out to the nines in pink and red, celebrating a Galentine’s Day.

For those of you hosting a Galentine’s Day this year, here are a few tips that have worked for me and my gal pals:

ROSÉ ALL DAY

It’s light, breezy, and is perfect for a galpal celebration.

GALENTINE’S GIFTS

Encourage each person to bring something small for each person attending.

CREATE A CRAFT STATION

Give guests a memory they can go home with; for example ceramic mugs you can paint as a group.

FLOWERS

Farmer’s markets have great flowers for a centerpiece, and you can give each attendee a flower as a parting gift at the end.

Remember, the pressure for perfection is real, but your girlfriends’ lives are just as busy as yours so give yourself grace. Galentine’s Day is for YOU!
