So Much to Be Grateful For LET'S CELEBRATE AUGUST, LAGUNA NIGUEL! This has been a challenging year to say the least. But as we slowly move back toward normality, we take the time to appreciate all we've been through and approach life with a positive, albeit wiser, attitude.

As businesses re-open, and we settle into the new normal, there is a spirit of optimism in the air. What better way to celebrate life than to immerse ourselves into the world of fine art. A great example of this spirit is found in Laguna Beach's iconic Signature Gallery on Forest Avenue. During the recent downtime, The Signature Gallery underwent a complete remodel and it has reemerged with a clean, bright, and elegant new look. If you have not visited this amazing gallery in the past, now is the time. While we are basking in the beauty of fine art, we cannot ignore the art of dance— specifically ballet. Ah... ballet! The most beautiful music in the world meets the most beautiful, disciplined, and technical dancing in the world. If you know me, you've heard me give this speech before. When one thinks of the fine arts and a true appreciation of the all the beauty our life experience has to offer, ballet is right there on top of the pile.

While we are not out of the woods when it comes to destinations and various modes of travel, there are some appealing options to be had in 2020. If you take the time to look around, you might be amazed at all the high quality options there are right here in our own backyard. We hope you enjoy this issue, Laguna Niguel. Karine Plantadit and Mochi, founders of the Kamochi Method, demonstrate kindness, positivity, and spirituality. Finally, every dancer who is passionate and driven in their work inspires me to keep pushing every day. WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE? Dancing on Lincoln Center stage at Koch Theater for the final round of the Youth America Grand Prix. It was the most incredible (and a bit scary) feeling to dance a solo where so much ballet history has been made. The stage is absolutely massive and looking into the sold-out audience was an experience I will never forget. The talent that night was among the best in the world and I felt so honored and grateful to have been selected. I hope to be back on that stage again one day. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHERS WHO WANT TO PURSUE BALLET? Always be the first one in the studio and the last one out. And focus on competing with yourself rather than others. Always try to do better than you did yesterday, and don’t allow competition with others to take over your mindset. Remember the passion and joy you started with. And lastly, be grateful for every opportunity you receive, and performance you take part in, as the gift of dance truly is a blessing.

“REMEMBER THE PASSION AND JOY YOU STARTED WITH. AND LASTLY, BE GRATEFUL FOR EVERY OPPORTUNITY YOU RECEIVE, AND PERFORMANCE YOU TAKE PART IN, AS THE GIFT OF DANCE TRULY IS A BLESSING.”

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING is the engagement in exercises that mimic or recreate everyday movement. These typically involve the use of your full body and multiple muscle groups. This style of training builds and sculpts lean, functional muscle. Lifting, squatting, jumping, twisting, pulling, pushing, punching, kicking, rowing, biking – all of these movements are elements of Functional Training.

02.

INDUSTRY LEADING TECHNOLOGY

Workouts are fueled and organized by robust technology systems. TVs mounted on the front wall provide a station-by-station diagram for each workout. With the guidance and motivation of the F45 Trainers, this system is a visual tool for members as they measure performance and progress through the stations.

03.

COMMUNITY A Team Training atmosphere is the final factor fueling F45 Training’s dynamism. The motivation and encouragement in a Group Training facility creates a pulsing, upbeat environment where goals are met and exceeded. Communities promoting fitness, good health and growth, and friendships.

TRAVEL DESTINATION

traveling in the new era TRAVELERS HAVE BEEN MOSTLY UNABLE TO INDULGE THEIR WANDERLUST IN 2020. BUT THE YEAR IS NOT LOST. ARTICLE CHRIS MEYER

20

Laguna Niguel Lifestyle | August 2020

WITH OVERSEAS TRAVEL CONTINUING TO BE COMPLEX, TRAVELERS ARE INCREASINGLY SETTING THEIR SIGHTS ON CLOSER-TO-HOME OPTIONS. So are travel companies. For example, new itineraries are bolstering dozens of tours already offered in domestic portfolios. These include an eight-day Southwest itinerary with visits to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon. Other areas for new itineraries include the Cajun Country and Hawaii. While large-ship cruises are currently grounded, smaller vessels are coming back to America’s rivers and seashores. That means Mississippi River cruises, small-ship Alaska cruises, the New England coast and other domestic options are possible for 2020. Caribbean cruises could return in the fall as well, but most bookings are being made for 2021. Expedia Cruises consultants are well versed in guiding you through bookings or redeeming a credit from 2020. Some international border shutdowns are lifting. But these cracks are as uneven as the pace and progress of the Covid-19 virus. Health check policies are designed to prevent the virus from moving across borders. But many international border closures have yet to be lifted, so, at least in the near term, travelers need to confirm that they can get to an “open” destination and back to the United States without a quarantine requirement. These new complexities make working with a professional travel consultant all the more valuable. Regardless of destination or travel mode, Covid-19 has brought new standards for all. Travel will be different going forward and will keep evolving as it always has. Still, it will continue to inspire, connect and relax us. It’s important that travelers build new requirements and protocols into their plans so they have a seamless experience. Expedia travel consultants are staying current with everything so they can provide the best guidance on making your travel spectacular.

CULINARY CREATIONS

A COOL STRAWBERRY AVOCADO AND SPINACH MIX THAT DELIGHTS THE PALATE

delectable summer salad

ARTICLE MIKE GERARD

28

Laguna Niguel Lifestyle | August 2020

DELECTABLE SUMMER

SALAD

LOOKING FOR A SIMPLE, UNASSUMING SALAD FOR SUMMER GATHERINGS? Try the sweetness of summer strawberries, tossed with fresh spinach, avocado, onions, and pine nuts—drizzled in a light, honey-sweetened balsamic vinaigrette. Then, if desired, top it off with crumbly goat feta. This is sure to be a great side salad to any dish—and a real crowd pleaser at your next summer gathering or barbecue.

INGREDIENTS + 1 bag of fresh, organic spinach + 1 carton of organic strawberries + 2 large Hass avocados, sliced + 1 purple onion + 1/3 cup of pine nuts + 1 tsp of sumac to season + 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar + 1 tbsp of gluten free tamari soy sauce + 1/4 cup raw honey + 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil + Sea salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS Whisk balsamic vinegar, tamari sauce, honey, and olive oil together and store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve the salad. In a serving bowl, assemble spinach, strawberries, avocados and nuts. Drizzle with the vinaigrette and serve! This recipe is a real hit at neighborhood block parties or barbecues with friends... So you might want to consider doubling the recipe as even those who typically avoid the salad bowl tend to dive in. The flavors complement each other well and it’s very easy to make. Enjoy!
